The Terrifying Shang Yao

As Shang Yao and Ruan Yuexi entered, the entire hall fell silent.

Under the spotlight, Ruan Yuexi resembled a celestial maiden who had accidentally wandered into the mortal realm. Her eyes, glistening with tears, hinted at confusion, adding a touch of innocence. The evening dress accentuated her alluring figure, leaving everyone mesmerized by her breathtaking beauty.

Ruan Yuexi wasn’t aware of her own stunning appearance. She wondered if the lights were just too bright, almost bringing tears to her eyes.

Shang Yao stood beside Ruan Yuexi. They were a talented man and a beautiful woman. At first, they didn’t understand why old Mr. Shang insisted on bringing them together. Now they finally know why old Mr. Shang chose Ruan Yuexi. Could there be anyone more beautiful than her? But why didn’t they notice it before?

Ning Chen snapped out of his thoughts as he saw Shang Yao holding Ruan Yuexi’s hand. His expression turned solemn as he pursed his lips.

Lu Yiliang’s gentle gaze remained fixed on Ruan Yuexi, albeit with a newfound tenderness compared to before.

Tang Qingqing’s complexion turned sour. Though she tried to control her emotions, facing someone like Ruan Yuexi made her feel ashamed of herself.

In a corner, a man sat on a sofa, observing the entire event. When Ruan Yuexi appeared, a deeper smile curled his lips.

Shang Yao’s demeanor remained cold and aloof, but in the next moment, he subtly blocked everyone’s line of sight.

Ruan Yuexi glanced inexplicably at Shang Yao by her side, slightly puzzled, but she didn’t ask.

Shortly after entering the banquet, people kept coming up to toast her and Shang Yao. Ruan Yuexi couldn’t drink alcohol, so she had to drink beverages instead.

As people left one after another, Ruan Yuexi felt a headache. She left Shang Yao alone and went to sit on the sofa.

Just as Ruan Yuexi sat down, someone sat beside her. She curiously turned her head. “Ning Chen? You’re here too?” 

Why hadn’t she seen him earlier?

Ning Chen looked at her with Ruan Yuexi’s reflection in his eyes, “It was crowded earlier. I didn’t get a chance to greet you.”

Ruan Yueli nonchalantly nodded. “Indeed, many have come.” 

This was what they called socializing, right?

Ning Chen handed Ruan Yuexi a snack, “Here, for you.”

Ruan Yuexi was pleasantly surprised. “You’re really thoughtful.” Without hesitation, she picked up the snack and took a bite.

Ning Chen smiled. “Do you really like snacks this much?”

Ruan Yuexi nodded again and started eating the dessert. “There are very few people who don’t like desserts.”

At this moment, Ning Chen fell silent, staring at her intently for a long while. “You look very beautiful tonight.”

Ruan Yuexi glanced at herself instinctively, “It’s okay. This evening dress is really pretty. But it’s not as good as the goddess in your mind.”

Ning Chen seemed puzzled by her words, “The goddess in my mind?”

Before Ning Chen could ask further, Feng Yi walked over, “What are you doing sitting here? I can’t handle it anymore. Please help me.”

Ye Yishen’s handsome and gentle face was full of smiles. “Is it delicious?”

Ruan Yuexi subconsciously moved aside, “It’s okay…” Can you please not get too close to me?

Ye Yishen smiled lightly, “You look beautiful today.” But he did not move closer to her.

Ruan Yuexi breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that he did not move closer. Fortunately, this yandere still had some rationality.

“It’s okay.” Ruan Yuexi replied with exactly the same words. She didn’t know what to say. She just wanted to leave at this moment.

Ye Yishen didn’t seem to notice that she wanted to hide from him. He reached out and held her delicate hand. He slowly leaned over and took the dessert from Ruan Yuexi’s spoon into his mouth. “It tastes really good.”

Ruan Yuexi: “!!” Ahhhh! Help! There’s a Yandere here!

She stared blankly at the spoon in her hand with wide eyes, wanting to throw it but not daring to. She was so scared that she almost lost her voice. Facts proved that there was not much difference between a yandere and a pervert, both were so scary.

Ye Yishen seemed to enjoy Ruan Yuexi’s terrified expression. “Have you been sleeping well lately?”

Ruan Yuexi forced herself to come back to her senses. “It’s okay.” She answered mechanically. 

Didn’t he see whether she slept well last night? This yandere!

“Just ‘okay’? That means you haven’t been sleeping well.”

Ruan Yuexi: “…”

“I won’t talk to you anymore. I need to use the restroom.” Ruan Yuexi hastily left her food on the table and stood up to leave, but her arm was grabbed, and she ended up falling into Ye Yishen’s arms.

“Let go!” Ruan Yuexi was completely panicked, shouting hastily. However, she had chosen the most secluded spot, unlikely to be noticed in the corner amid the loud music and distractions of the party.

Ye Yishen held Ruan Yuexi close, his breath tickling her cheek. She struggled fiercely but couldn’t move an inch.

“Are you this scared of me?” Ye Yishen’s eerie voice whispered in her ear.

“I-I’m not afraid of you…” But her heart was pounding like thunder.

Ye Yishen fell silent and slowly approached Ruan Yuexi, his lips lightly touching her earlobe.

Ruan Yuexi felt like she was being burned and struggled violently, but Ye Yishen didn’t let her go.

“Don’t move around, or I might find it more exciting…” His lips kissed her earlobe again.

“Ye Yishen! Let go of me now, or I’ll call for help!” Ruan Yuexi’s voice trembled. She hadn’t expected this yandere to be so shameless.

Glancing around, she saw there weren’t many people nearby, and Shang Yao was surrounded by others in the distance. Just as she was about to bite Ye Yishen, he released her.

“To be honest, I’m looking forward to your ‘screams’.” Ye Yishen’s eyes were full of aggression as he looked at her.

Ruan Yuexi didn’t care what he expected. She quickly moved away from Ye Yishen and headed towards the restroom.

Even as she moved farther from Ye Yishen, she could still feel his scorching gaze behind her.

She reached the restroom soon after, took a deep breath several times, and locked the door. This was dangerous; it seemed Ye Yishen had really set his sights on her.

Though she didn’t want to face this reality, the fact was clear. Besides quickly raising her abuse value, Ruan Yuexi had no other choice.

After steadying her emotions, she was about to open the door when several women entered the restroom.

“Did you see that?”

“How could we miss it? She’s the most eye-catching one here tonight, right?”

“I never expected Ruan Yuexi to make such a counterattack tonight. Did you notice Shang Yao’s reaction?”

“I’ve noticed that too. The attitude towards Ruan Yuexi is very different from before. Before, Ruan Yuexi was not allowed to get close to him.”

Just as Ruan Yuexi was about to move aside, Lu Yiliang stood in front of her. “Wait a moment.”

Ruan Yuexi looked at him in confusion. Lu Yiliang reached out and gently brushed aside a strand of hair from her cheek.

“Okay.” Lu Yiliang smiled politely.

Ruan Yuexi was stunned for a moment, not thinking much of it. “Thanks.” She patted his shoulder and walked away from the banquet venue.

Lu Yiliang watched her retreating figure for a long time without looking away. Tang Qingqing saw this scene and felt uncomfortable in her heart. Although she had been comforting herself all the time, maybe she had misunderstood Lu Yiliang?

“Brother Yiliang, what are you doing standing here?” Tang Qingqing picked up her smile again and asked Lu Yiliang sweetly.

Lu Yiliang withdrew his gaze. “Going to the restroom.” He remained composed.

Tang Qingqing breathed a sigh of relief. “Then go ahead.”

Looking at Tang Qingqing’s smiling face, Lu Yiliang’s mind was still filled with every frown and smile of Ruan Yuexi.

Ruan Yuexi cautiously entered the banquet hall, fearing to encounter Ye Yishen again.

“What are you doing?” A cold voice suddenly sounded behind Ruan Yuexi, almost making her jump three feet high.

She turned around quickly—it was Shang Yao. Ruan Yuexi instantly relaxed. “Brother Yao, you know how scary it is when someone startles you.” Mainly because he looked scary too.

Shang Yao cast a cold glance at her several times. “Where did you just go?”

Speaking of what happened just now, Ruan Yuexi became angry, “Brother Yao, I won’t come to this kind of banquet in the future.” Not only is it boring, but it is also tiring and dangerous, and she can’t increase her abuse value. She’d rather lie like a salted fish in the villa.

“Why?” Shang Yao asked.

“I’m tired. My feet are almost blistered.” Ruan Yuexi was not joking. She just checked and saw that the skin was broken.

Shang Yao reached out, and Ruan Yuexi thought he was going to do something, but his hand quietly held two band-aids.

“Put them on,” he said indifferently.

Ruan Yuexi looked up at Shang Yao in surprise and slowly took the band-aids from his hand. As her delicate fingers touched Shang Yao’s palm, a tingling sensation spread through his entire body.

His dropped hand subtly moved, seemingly easing something.

Ruan Yuexi was genuinely surprised that Shang Yao had given her band-aids—almost like a tiger suddenly turning vegetarian.

Finding a nearby sofa, Ruan Yuexi sat down and applied the band-aids to where her skin had been rubbed raw.

“Brother Yao…” After she finished, Ruan Yuexi looked up to say something to him, but Shang Yao, who had been in front of her, had disappeared.

“?” Ruan Yuexi looked around, but Shang Yao was nowhere to be seen, disappearing silently.

Ruan Yuexi didn’t think much about it. He was probably surrounded by people again. This time she sat in a conspicuous place and no one dared to sit next to her openly.

She should have known that this was the safest way. She shouldn’t have chosen the darkest corner before. Bored of waiting, she still hadn’t seen Shang Yao.

Unable to sit still, Ruan Yuexi decided to go back first since she had no social obligations anyway.

She searched the entire banquet venue but didn’t see Shang Yao. Could he be on the second floor? Huffing and puffing, Ruan Yuexi climbed to the second floor.

There were hardly any people on the second floor, and the corridor was dimly lit. Ruan Yuexi didn’t feel scared, though—after all, there were so many people downstairs.

Just as she entered a hallway, she heard voices not far away. Ruan Yuexi stopped and looked ahead at the two figures.

It was Shang Yao and Tang Qingqing! Sure enough, the two main characters had met again. Ruan Yuexi felt excited; she could witness the emotional drama between the male and female leads firsthand.

“Brother Shang Yao…” Tang Qingqing said shyly.

Ruan Yuexi couldn’t hear what she was saying clearly, but she guessed Tang Qingqing was confessing something to Shang Yao for the first time.

Shang Yao seemed indifferent, not at all like what Ruan Yuexi had imagined. This puzzled her. According to the original plot, how could he be so cold towards the female lead?

At this moment, Tang Qingqing hurriedly said something to Shang Yao who had turned around and was about to leave.

Ruan Yuexi held her breath but still didn’t hear clearly what Tang Qingqing said. Then she watched Shang Yao’s face suddenly change. His originally expressionless face turned murderous the next moment.

Tang Qingqing probably didn’t expect such a strong reaction from him. Just as she was about to say something more, Shang Yao reached out and viciously grabbed her neck.

Ruan Yuexi widened her eyes in shock and quickly covered her mouth. Shang Yao lifted Tang Qingqing’s feet off the ground, and even from this distance, Ruan Yuexi could clearly see Tang Qingqing rolling her eyes back from being choked.

“Swish!” A not-so-loud sound echoed under Ruan Yuexi’s feet. She was already tense, and this scare almost made her lose her mind.

Mainly because she had been caught spying. Originally, she had planned to call Shang Yao’s name from the corridor, pretending she hadn’t seen anything, but now this noise under her feet made her dumbfounded.

Her mind raced, figuring out how to explain to Shang Yao next because she saw Shang Yao glance in her direction.

Ruan Yuexi prayed that Shang Yao wouldn’t notice her. When she cautiously peeked out again, Tang Qingqing was still coughing weakly on the ground, gasping for breath. Shang Yao, who had been choking her, had disappeared without a trace.

Was this guy a ghost? He appeared and disappeared at will. Ruan Yuexi searched everywhere for Shang Yao’s figure, suddenly feeling something was wrong. Slowly turning around…

Shang Yao stood behind her with a cold, piercing stare.
