Danger and Shang Yao’s Dream of Another World
Ruan Yuexi followed Shang Yao onto the ambulance, not expecting him to be the one saving her. At that moment, she thought she might die.
However, Shang Yao pushed her away and was hit by the falling light, collapsing into a pool of blood. Ruan Yuexi was momentarily stunned and panicked, unsure of what to do.
In her impression, Shang Yao was someone who would stop at nothing, but today, this pervert had saved her life, leaving her at a loss.
She stared blankly at Shang Yao’s hand, tightly holding hers. Even in such a critical moment, he did not forget to hold her hand…
Ruan Yuexi felt an inexplicable sting in her nose. Despite his cold and ruthless exterior, it seemed he might not have anticipated developing feelings for her.
Perhaps he did not understand what love was. The indifference from his father and his mother’s depression led to a twisted personality. With no one to give him love, how could he extend kindness to others?
Though she still remembered that day when he had tried to kill her, this act seemed to even things out.
Shang Yao was rushed into the emergency room, and soon after, Luo Yuqin and Shang Lie hurried to the hospital. “What happened? Why did Yao’er get hurt?”
Ruan Yuexi explained the situation to them. Luo Yuqin reacted quickly, immediately calling others to investigate who might be responsible. Whoever did this would surely leave some trace.
“It’s all right now. Leave this matter to me,” Luo Yuqin comforted Ruan Yuexi, although her worried gaze kept darting towards the emergency room.
Ruan Yuexi had thought Luo Yuqin would blame her since she was supposed to be the one in the emergency room. Yet Luo Yuqin was instead comforting her.
Luo Yuqin and Shang Lie waited anxiously outside the emergency room, their faces heavy with concern. After an indeterminate amount of time, the doctor finally came out.
Ruan Yuexi, Luo Yuqin, and Shang Lie immediately gathered around, with Ning Chen and Lu Yiliang following behind.
The doctor, still wearing his mask, said, “Fortunately, the patient was given artificial respiration and CPR in time. However, he will need a few days to wake up.”
The doctor’s words eased their tension. “How many days will it be before he wakes up?” Ruan Yuexi asked again, as Luo Yuqin also seemed eager to know.
“About three days,” the doctor provided a specific timeframe.
Ruan Yuexi and Luo Yuqin nodded, relieved that he was out of immediate danger.
Ning Chen and Lu Yiliang were also relieved. Despite being rivals, they did not wish harm upon Shang Yao.
Tang Qingqing watched from the corridor, relieved that things were okay. She didn’t have to feel so guilty. She hadn’t expected Shang Yao to love Ruan Yuexi so deeply that he would sacrifice his life for her.
Shang Yao was pushed out of the operating room. Although he was no longer in immediate danger, he remained unconscious.
After a while, Lu Yiliang and Ning Chen left to give Ruan Yuexi, Luo Yuqin, and Shang Lie some privacy.
“Yuexi, you should rest. You’ve had a long day,” Luo Yuqin said, concerned for Ruan Yuexi’s emotional and physical state. With one person already down, she worried about what might happen if anything else went wrong.
Ruan Yuexi, exhausted from the previous night and the morning’s ordeal with Shang Yao, accepted the offer and lay down on the sofa, covered by a thin blanket, quickly falling asleep.
Luo Yuqin sighed with relief that things were not worse. She found it hard to believe that Shang Yao might truly have feelings for Ruan Yuexi. The boy who had never shown empathy and whose mother had always been unhappy seemed to have developed genuine affection.
Just moments ago, she had doubted her son’s capacity for kindness, but the events of today had changed her perspective.
As Luo Yuqin’s thoughts grew increasingly tangled, Shang Yao was trapped in a dream.
He saw scenes flashing before his eyes, causing his entire body to tremble. He saw himself harming Ruan Yuexi, and despite his desperate shouts to stop the illusions, he couldn’t change the outcome.
He could only watch as the Ruan Yuexi in the dream was killed by “him,” with her eyes wide open in anger and disbelief.
The dead Ruan Yuexi seemed to see him in the dream, her eyes filled with lingering affection. Shang Yao fell to his knees, unable to breathe, clutching his chest, his mind overwhelmed by memories of Ruan Yuexi’s every expression and smile.
As his consciousness began to fade, Shang Yao collapsed into darkness.
When he woke up, he found himself in his office. “The office?” Shang Yao rubbed his temples in confusion.
Secretary Fang, as always, brought him coffee. Shang Yao drank it in one gulp, puzzled about how he ended up in the office instead of the hospital.
Secretary Fang looked nervous, as usual, without any hint of concern.
“Where is Ruan Yuexi?” Shang Yao asked immediately.
Secretary Fang looked startled, unable to gauge Shang Yao’s thoughts and surprised by his mention of Ruan Yuexi.
“Miss Ruan… she still refuses to leave the villa. President, what about the divorce?” Secretary Fang assumed Shang Yao was inquiring about the progress of the divorce.
Shang Yao’s eyes turned sharp. “Refuse to leave the villa?” He stood up abruptly.
Secretary Fang, startled, took a few steps back. “Yes, President. Miss Ruan said she won’t leave the villa unless she dies.”
Shang Yao sensed something was off. He should have been in the hospital, but he was in the office instead. He could barely remember how Ruan Yuexi had clung to him.
As he was about to leave the office, Tang Qingqing and Lu Yiliang entered.
“Brother Shang Yao,” Tang Qingqing greeted with a mix of shyness and joy.
Lu Yiliang, behind her, watched her with a heavy heart but remained silent.
Shang Yao felt a jolt of unease. He bypassed them and quickly went to the parking lot. Without waiting for Secretary Fang, he drove to the villa.
Everything in the villa was as he remembered, but he hesitated to enter.
After a long moment, he entered the villa. As soon as the door opened, a woman in light clothing rushed towards him, attempting to hug him but ultimately grabbing Shang Yao’s sleeve.
“Brother Yao, can we not divorce? I… I can tolerate Tang Qingqing’s presence. I don’t want a divorce!” The woman, who claimed to be Ruan Yuexi, had her makeup smeared.
Shang Yao stared at her intensely. Despite the identical face, he could immediately tell that this was not his Ruan Yuexi.
His heart felt hollow. He fought through the dizziness in his mind and seized the “Ruan Yuexi” in front of him.
“Where is she? Where have you hidden her?” Shang Yao’s first outburst of anger and madness.
The woman pretending to be Ruan Yuexi was stunned by his anger and did not understand what he was saying.
Shang Yao shouted at her repeatedly until she was terrified and crying. Only then did he release her.
He frantically searched for any evidence of Ruan Yuexi’s presence but found nothing. Her sportswear was gone from the closet, though gifts she had given to Ning Chen and Lu Yiliang remained.
He walked slowly to the bed, picked up a pillow, and sniffed deeply. The scent was not one associated with Ruan Yuexi.
Shang Yao, madly searching for Ruan Yuexi, found no trace of her, as if she had never existed in this world.
His heart ached deeply. It couldn’t be possible. He must be dreaming. How could Ruan Yuexi not exist? Shang Yao refused to believe it, convinced that he was still dreaming.
But after falling asleep again and again, Shang Yao remained in this cold, unfeeling world.
His condition worsened, and Shang Yao, like when he was a child, curled up inside a closet. His tall frame huddled tightly, as if this was the only way he could alleviate his emotions.
In a daze, he seemed to hear Ruan Yuexi calling him, whispering in his ear. But Shang Yao lacked the strength to move, his consciousness sinking once more.
When Shang Yao awoke, the sight of the white ceiling and the smell of disinfectant in the air gave him an unprecedented sense of security.
Ruan Yuexi, exhausted, had fallen asleep with her head resting on Shang Yao’s hand. Suddenly feeling a movement, she jolted awake.
Shang Yao was smiling at her, his smile as warm as a spring breeze, creating ripples in her heart. At that moment, Ruan Yuexi was captivated.
