It was enough curiosity to trigger a bit of voyeurism in them. Ji Gwanyeong and Choi Taehun were so focused on their situation that they overlooked something. Most of the researchers in this room were Espers.
In other words, even if they went outside to talk, the conversation would be easily overheard through several thick concrete walls.
Not a single pen moved. The researchers all perked up, straining to listen to the conversation between the troublesome pair, putting all their attention into it.
It didn’t take long for Choi Taehun to speak first.
“…Ji Gwanyeong.”
Taehun took a deep breath before speaking. The researchers, even at the small sound of his breath, swallowed hard, concentrating.
“What exactly is our relationship?”
“You’re my guide.”
“Yes, Ji Gwanyeong, you’re my Esper. But that’s just the ‘relationship.’ I’m asking about the relationship between you and me. What exactly is it?”
From somewhere in the lab, a soft whisper was heard. “Ugh, this is killing me.”
Ji Gwanyeong’s popular drama was nowhere near as interesting as the situation unfolding now. Right from the start, a huge line was delivered. The Espers, who had seen Taehun’s desperate beginnings for so long, couldn’t help but gasp.
But compared to what was to come, it was nothing.
“If we can’t get married, can we at least date?”
“What?”
“I’m asking if we can date instead of getting married.”
The researchers buzzed in an instant. The voice of an Esper who could hear the conversation beyond the concrete walls rushed to relay the situation to the guide researchers. Oh my, oh my, oh my. What’s going on? The guide researchers, caught up in the excitement of the real-time broadcast, clapped their hands in excitement.
“Looks like Ji Gwanyeong told Taehun not to get married. Incredible.”
But while the researchers were excited about this live coverage, Ji Gwanyeong’s voice became suddenly eerie.
“Do you want to die?”
“What do you mean ‘die’! Isn’t it your job to protect me, Ji Gwanyeong?”
“Don’t you know? You said you’d protect me! Keep your word!”
…Who’s protecting whom?
A huge reveal—something that had never come to light before—had just exploded. The two men, with their clean-cut faces, were having a conversation that you wouldn’t even see in a movie. And to top it off, Choi Taehun, with no power at all, was claiming to protect Ji Gwanyeong, an Esper who could crush anyone in his path?
The temperamental Esper was now demanding Taehun keep his promise. Surprised by the commotion, Oh Yeon, who had opened her hearing, made a confused face. She had been curious about what was going on, but now the conversation between the irritable Esper and her beloved Taehun had reached a level that made her uneasy.
“If you marry someone else, we’ll all die. So if I just want to date, and you say no, then what am I supposed to do? You’re really selfish!”
Mihyun, who had been eagerly listening to their conversation, couldn’t help but mutter under her breath, “What a bad guy.” This was more entertaining than any drama.
Even Ji Gwanyeong, the Esper, was stirring up provocative drama, creating a situation you wouldn’t even find in a third-rate movie. One Esper, who had been a fan of dramas, was now gasping for breath, almost unable to handle the situation.
The mini-series drama between Esper Ji Gwanyeong and guide Choi Taehun was now building to a climax.
“Just do it! Who says you can’t?!”
“Who with? Want to check the lines? Huh?! Oh, at least introduce me to someone before saying that!”
It was the first time the researchers had heard Taehun yell like that. Of course, his lips were still curled in a smile as he bit them down tightly. As his voice rose, Ji Gwanyeong let out a low, derisive chuckle. That laugh, to anyone who heard it, was unmistakably angry. There was no joy in it.
Mihyun, who knew exactly what happened when Ji Gwanyeong got angry, unconsciously clenched her fist in tension.
“Are you crazy?”
As expected, Ji Gwanyeong opened his mouth with a voice full of frustration, dripping with irritation. Was he about to yell at Taehun? The researchers held their breath in anticipation. Their suspicions were partly correct. Ji Gwanyeong did yell at Taehun.
Of course, it wasn’t in any usual way.
“Dating, you bastard, date with me!”
That was, without a doubt, the most vicious confession Choi Taehun, at twenty-eight, would ever experience.
A pen rolled off somewhere with a small sound. The researchers, momentarily stunned, stopped their frantic reporting as they tried to process what they had just heard. One curious guide researcher turned to the Esper and asked.
“What did Ji Gwanyeong say?”
“…He wants to date him.”
The guide researcher’s mouth dropped open at the words beyond imagination. One of the Esper researchers at the Center, who had the ability to see through walls, secretly peered over and whispered in an excited voice, “Hahaha, Taehun’s face is red, hey!” Some of the other Espers, who didn’t have that ability, sighed in regret.
They really had to see that for themselves!
As always, reality was more dramatic than any drama.
