Chapter 17: Misleading the Female Lead
“I didn’t look for him, don’t make up stories,” Jin Yue certainly wouldn’t admit it.
“Besides, he’s surrounded by beautiful women every day now, how could he still remember me, his ex-girlfriend?”
It was Liu Jinghao who came, and she had originally wanted to use him to find out some information.
Liu Jinghao raised an eyebrow in surprise and asked, “Where did you hear this news? Brother Qi is with me all the time. I haven’t seen any beautiful women around him.”
“Don’t lie to me, I know everything. You guys don’t know, right? Su Chenxi is in the same class as me, and she told me everything.” Jin Yue certainly wouldn’t hide things for the female lead; she always asked directly when she had something to say.
Besides, has she never read novels? The misunderstandings between the male and female leads often start this way, and the little white lotus in the middle can always get away because both the male and female leads hide things from each other.
Although, to be honest, she wasn’t the female lead, haha.
She got off-topic, but Jin Yue stopped the random thoughts in her head.
“Oh? What could she have said? Are you saying she’s always by Brother Qi’s side? Hahaha, that’s funny. I’ll call Brother Qi, and you can hear for yourself if he’ll be mad when he finds out you misunderstood him.”
“Stop it, I was just saying it casually. Never mind, I’ll leave now, I still have things to do.” After Jin Yue found out the information she wanted, she didn’t want to stay any longer and was about to leave.
Liu Jinghao touched his chin and watched Jin Yue Walk away, muttering to himself, “Su Chenxi again. Should I tell Brother Qi?”
From that birthday party, Liu Jinghao could tell that Su Chenxi had some ulterior motives, so he intentionally exposed her little trick at the time.
However, he hadn’t expected Jin Yue to still break up with Brother Qi.
In his heart, he thought Jin Yue was really stupid, no wonder she couldn’t compete with Su Chenxi. But now that he thought about it, she wasn’t so stupid after all.
After Jin Yue left the bar, she finally breathed a sigh of relief but still felt puzzled. If Liu Jinghao said that the female lead wasn’t with the male lead, how did the female lead know that the male lead hadn’t been in touch with her recently?
Could she have hacked into the male lead’s phone? That seemed unlikely; if it were that easy, the male lead’s company would have been finished by now.
So, what else could it be?
What could she do if she wanted to learn about someone’s situation without them knowing? Jin Yue thought to herself.
Aha!
Follow them! Hire a private detective!
With that, Jin Yue decided to turn the situation around.
She had a mischievous smile on her face as she made her plan, her lips curling into two shallow dimples, looking both cunning and playful.
The next morning, Jin Yue hurriedly packed her things and took a taxi to Qi Corporation.
As for why she wasn’t driving her own car, that was because today’s mission was not something she wanted to make too public—after all, she wasn’t going to “find” the male lead.
Yes, Jin Yue planned to follow Qi Bei, find the private detective who had been secretly photographing him, and later position the detective so that the female lead would see it. This way, she would panic and come to find her again.
After getting out of the taxi, Jin Yue went to a coffee shop opposite the Qi Corporation building, ordered a cappuccino, and found a seat by the window.
The location was perfect for observing the entrance of the Qi Corporation building, so she could tell when Qi Bei arrived.
It was already 8:30 in the morning, peak rush hour. People on the street were walking quickly, seemingly in a hurry to get to work.
The coffee shop was filled with office workers, all preparing to grab a coffee before heading to work.
Jin Yue stared intently at the entrance of Qi Corporation, occasionally checking her phone.
In the blink of an eye, Jin Yue had been waiting in the coffee shop for over an hour. It was almost 10 o’clock, yet she still hadn’t seen Qi Bei. Was he not going to work today?
Jin Yue felt a little discouraged as she looked around. That’s when she noticed a man in black sitting at a table across from her. He had a camera in hand and was staring at the entrance of Qi Corporation with a sneaky look.
Could this be the private detective hired by the female lead? He was being so secretive, hiding inside the shop. No wonder the male lead hadn’t noticed.
Although she hadn’t seen the male lead, finding the private detective meant her trip wasn’t in vain.
Moreover, judging by the private detective’s actions, Qi Bei was likely in the office. She probably arrived too early and missed him. Otherwise, the detective wouldn’t still be there, watching.
Maybe the man sensed he was being observed because he suddenly looked over at Jin Yue, his gaze wary and displeased.
Jin Yue smiled and turned away, no longer looking at him. She kept an eye on the entrance of Qi Corporation, occasionally glancing at the man in black.
The morning passed quickly, and Jin Yue couldn’t help but yawn. She had woken up early today for the tracking, so she was feeling tired.
If she sat here any longer, she might fall asleep. Jin Yue stood up, planning to walk around the area to wake herself up.
As soon as she stepped outside, she spotted Qi Bei walking out. She instinctively ducked, and from the corner of her eye, she saw the private detective packing up his things, also about to leave.
Jin Yue quickly hailed a taxi and told the driver to follow Qi Bei’s car.
This might be her only chance today, and she had to seize it.
Jin Yue followed Qi Bei’s car all the way to the Jingjue Bar. She saw him heading toward the entrance, but the private detective hadn’t arrived yet. After thinking for a moment, she decided not to go in just yet.
Once Qi Bei’s figure disappeared from view, Jin Yue hurried toward his car.
Hearing the sound of a car engine, Jin Yue knew the private detective had arrived. She pretended to pick up her phone: “Where are you? I’m standing by your car.”
“What? You’re already inside? What’s going on? You didn’t wait for me, that’s really too much.”
“Alright, I’ll go in and find you myself. You don’t need to come get me.”
“I know, it’s the VIP room on the third floor. I’ve been there before. Okay, that’s it, I’m hanging up.”
The private detective still hadn’t gotten out of the car. Jin Yue was playing a little act. She knew the detective could hear her, and he had probably already taken photos of her standing next to the car.
Now, she just needed to go inside, pretend to head to the third floor, and the plan would be complete.
Today marked the third day, and there were still four days left until the one-week promise.
The private detective’s photos must be sent to Su Chenxi every day. Now, she just hoped that when she woke up tomorrow, she’d see the desired news.
After a long day, Jin Yue was completely exhausted. She didn’t think too much and soon fell into a deep sleep.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Su Chenxi was wide awake, unable to sleep.
She stared at the photos and messages sent by the private detective on her computer, her heart in complete turmoil.
Jin Yue actually went to find Qi Bei. How dare she? No, this can’t be true. It must be a trick. She was trying to deceive her.
They hadn’t even been in the same frame yet. They were just standing by the car. What could that prove?
But if they ended up in the same frame—then what?
“Jin Yue!” Su Chenxi gritted her teeth, the sight of her infuriating.
On the now black screen of the computer, a twisted and terrifying face appeared. The usually delicate and beautiful face of Su Chenxi was now distorted with rage.
