Chapter 3: He’s Actually the Male Lead
“Why is it you?” Jin Yue unconsciously spoke as she thought to herself.
The man in front of her was exactly her type. Thinking about her plan from yesterday, Jin Yue’s gaze suddenly became more enthusiastic as she looked at him.
“Of course, I’m here to attend the banquet.”
“You still haven’t answered me, was the food good?”
“It was pretty good. By the way, do you have a girlfriend?”
It was time to go for it. Maybe she could escape the plot soon, yay!
“Huh?” Qi Bei was a bit surprised. The woman in front of him had seemed shy yesterday, but today, she was suddenly so enthusiastic. Did he misjudge her?
He recalled the information his secretary, Chen Zuo, had given him this afternoon: Jin Yue, the only daughter of Jin Yuanquan, a spoiled and willful character who liked going to bars.
The girl in the photo wore heavy makeup and dressed provocatively, which seemed a bit at odds with the sweet and soft girl standing in front of him now.
Was the information wrong, or was this girl good at pretending? Either way, he was getting more and more interested in her.
No one had expected that Qi Bei, usually calm and reserved, would fall for a girl at first sight.
“Could it be that you already have someone?” Jin Yue felt a bit deflated. Had she been too late?
“Not yet,” Qi Bei replied, wanting to see what this woman was really up to.
“Really?! Look at how fate brought us together. How about I be your girlfriend? I’m really well-behaved, and I don’t look bad either. We’d make a good match, don’t you think?” Jin Yue suddenly got excited, looking up at him with hopeful eyes.
“Sure, girlfriend.”
No matter what Jin Yue was trying to do, her idea aligned perfectly with his.
Since she had crashed into his arms, she would have to stay by his side forever. Escape was no longer an option. Qi Bei’s eyes darkened with a hint of malice.
The phone rang, and after answering, Qi Bei gently patted Jin Yue’s head, leaving her with a “Girlfriend, I’ll see you later!” before walking away.
Jin Yue was left with her carefully styled hair ruined. She pouted and muttered under her breath, shaking her small fist at Qi Bei’s back. “Ugh, you annoying jerk!”
So, was she single now? It seemed she was almost free from the plot!
Thinking this, Jin Yue couldn’t help but smile.
“I announce that the banquet officially begins now!”
At 6 PM, Qi Bei’s father stood at the front of the hall, announcing the start of the event. As soon as he finished speaking, a round of enthusiastic applause filled the hall.
Jin Yue sat leisurely on the sofa, watching as the opening dance started. People took to the floor, dancing to the music.
“CEO Qi is really handsome!”
“I wonder who CEO Qi will choose as his dance partner.”
“Is he coming over here? Could he be inviting me to dance? Oh my god!”
“Stop dreaming, have you ever seen CEO Qi invite anyone to dance?”
Suddenly, there was a burst of excited discussions around her. Jin Yue followed their gazes and saw her freshly minted boyfriend.
CEO Qi? So, he’s Qi Bei? Does that mean he’s the male lead?!!!
Jin Yue froze, her mind racing. What had she just done?
Wasn’t it supposed to be the first meeting between the female antagonist and the male lead today? Could she still back out?
Scared, Jin Yue was about to move to another spot to hide. The male lead was someone she should keep her distance from, right?
But before she could move, Qi Bei had already walked over to her, standing in front of her with a gentlemanly bow and extending his hand. “Girlfriend, shall we dance?”
How had things turned out like this? Wasn’t the plot breaking down?
“003! 003!”
Jin Yue desperately called out to the system in her mind, but there was no response. Then, she remembered that 003 had said it would be in sleep mode for the next few days.
“Oh my god! CEO Qi is actually inviting someone to dance!”
“Who is this woman? I’ve never seen her before, have you?”
“She’s not that great-looking.”
“This woman still hasn’t agreed to dance. Maybe she’s playing hard to get.”
Jin Yue didn’t bother with these jealous women. It’s not like they would dance with him either.
The female lead hadn’t even shown up yet, and she was already getting all these women’s hatred. What would happen when the female lead arrives? Would she be doomed?
Jin Yue grimaced as she looked up at Qi Bei and reluctantly rejected him. “CEO Qi, sorry, I don’t really know how to dance. Maybe you could ask someone else?”
The male lead… She really needed to stay away.
“It’s fine, I can teach you,” Qi Bei smiled without retracting his hand. But there was a dark intensity in his gaze.
Everyone was watching, so Jin Yue didn’t want to embarrass herself. But still, her frustration showed when she reluctantly reached out and squeezed Qi Bei’s hand.
“What do you really want?” Jin Yue glared at him, grinding her teeth as she asked.
“Isn’t it normal for a boyfriend to invite his girlfriend to dance?”
“I’m not your girlfriend! I didn’t know your identity earlier, so everything I said doesn’t count.”
Jin Yue stood her ground, trying to act tough. Who told him to trick her? She was just deceived by his good looks.
But woman, remember, Qi Bei never told you about his identity from the beginning. How could you claim to be tricked?
“Come on, stop making a scene.” Qi Bei brushed it off as Jin Yue throwing a tantrum, but his eyes darkened even further.
“I’m not making a scene. I’m serious. Everything I said doesn’t count. Your true soulmate is someone else. Please believe me,” Jin Yue said earnestly, trying to convince him.
“Take it back, and I’ll pretend I didn’t hear it.” Qi Bei’s hand tightened around her waist, pulling her fiercely into his embrace. His eyes were ice cold.
Under his dominance, Jin Yue could only lower her head.
Once the party was over, she would run home and hide. There was no way Qi Bei could do anything to her then, right?
