Chapter 32: Jin Yue’s Drama Online
Xiao Mei was terrified that Jin Yue would actually go to Qi Bei and have her fired. This job had been hard to come by, and if she were fired, people would probably laugh at her for it. Moreover, the salary at Qi Group was several times higher than at other companies.
With tears welling up in her eyes, Xiao Mei glanced around, but seeing no one willing to help, she knew she had no choice but to kneel and beg.
She bent her knees, about to humiliate herself, when suddenly a woman’s voice intervened. “Wait!”
The woman walked up, helping Xiao Mei to her feet, and with poise, addressed Jin Yue. “Hello, I’m Jiang Wanyue, Deputy Manager of the Secretarial Department at Qi Group. Mr. Qi has already been informed about the situation here and is on his way. Even if Xiao Mei made a mistake, there’s no need to handle it so quickly, don’t you think?”
Xiao Mei’s eyes lit up at the mention of Jiang Wanyue’s name. She gave a grateful smile, and Jiang Wanyue returned it.
Jiang Wanyue, who was second only to Jin Yue in the story, was not a villainess, but she was a character that had a reputation for being involved in negative plotlines. Unlike other antagonists, she had a quiet admiration for Qi Bei. After the male and female leads confirmed their relationship, she simply chose to silently support Qi Bei in his career and didn’t interfere in their relationship.
Jin Yue sized up Jiang Wanyue. She hadn’t expected to meet another character from the story so soon.
“What’s going on?” Jin Yue asked.
Finally, Qi Bei arrived. He grabbed Jin Yue’s hand and checked her over to make sure she wasn’t injured. Once he was sure there were no visible signs of harm, he asked, “What happened?”
Seeing how concerned Qi Bei was for Jin Yue, Xiao Mei’s heart sank. It felt as if her body had frozen in place, unable to move. Qi Bei treated his girlfriend so gently—there was no way she wouldn’t be fired now.
Xiao An noticed that Xiao Mei seemed to be in a daze and quickly spoke up to Qi Bei.
After listening, Qi Bei frowned. Jin Yue, not missing a beat, said, “Is there anything wrong with what I did? I came all this way to see you, and your front desk treats me like this. If you don’t punish her, what will stop others from treating me like this in the future? If you don’t punish her, I won’t come to see you again!”
Qi Bei’s frown deepened. “What nonsense are you talking?”
Just as he was about to habitually give orders to Secretary Chen behind him, he realized Chen had been assigned to an overseas assignment in Africa. Qi Bei paused and thought, maybe it was time to bring Chen back for convenience.
He then turned to look coldly at the crowd. “Are all the employees this idle? If it’s not enough, should I increase your workload?”
The onlookers scattered quickly, not daring to watch any longer. Soon, only Xiao Mei, Xiao An, Jiang Wanyue, Jin Yue, and Qi Bei remained.
“So, are you going to help me or not?” Jin Yue asked again, sounding forceful.
Qi Bei rubbed Jin Yue’s hair to comfort her, then turned to Xiao Mei, who was staring at the ground. He lowered his voice and asked, “Are you new here?”
Xiao An nudged the still-dazed Xiao Mei, who quickly snapped out of it. “Yes, Mr. Qi, I’m new here. I didn’t know Miss Jin was your girlfriend, so I followed the front desk protocol and stopped her. I’m really sorry.”
“If I remember correctly, the front desk staff should have gone through training,” Qi Bei said, his gaze becoming sharper. “Did no one tell you the procedures I set up?”
This time, his eyes were cold, and it was clear that he was displeased.
Both Xiao Mei and Xiao An were fumbling for answers, realizing that they had never encountered Jin Yue before. Xiao An had completely forgotten about the instructions, and neither of them had completed the necessary training. One was too lazy to do it, and the other didn’t bother asking, thinking it was just basic content. They never expected to run into Jin Yue today.
Qi Bei was furious. “How did you two even get hired? You don’t even know the most basic operational procedures. I think I’ll have to replace both of you!”
He had never expected that Jin Yue would come today and immediately spot the problem with the front desk. If she hadn’t come, who knows how many issues would have been overlooked in the future?
“Mr. Qi, please, could you let this slide?” Jiang Wanyue interjected. “After all, anyone who can work here must have some skills. Maybe the training was delayed for some reason, and it wasn’t intentional. Firing them seems too harsh. How about we punish them in a lighter way? For example, they can clean the bathrooms for a month. Miss Jin, what do you think?”
Jiang Wanyue’s intervention was clever—she managed to ask for leniency while still scolding the two front desk workers. She really knew how to balance kindness and authority, not surprising as the Deputy Manager of the Secretarial Department.
At first, Jin Yue only planned to issue a minor punishment as a formality, not really wanting Qi Bei to fire the front desk staff. However, after hearing Jiang Wanyue’s suggestion, she relented. “Fine, I’ll let it go this time. But only because of your intervention, Secretary Jiang,” she said reluctantly, clearly dissatisfied and casting a look of irritation at the two front desk workers.
“Secretary Jiang, it seems you’ve been working here so long that you’re overlooking the issue,” Jin Yue added sharply. “Negligence is still negligence. There’s no excuse for it. If everyone acts like this, who will take responsibility for the mistakes?”
Jin Yue raised her voice, now sounding more commanding. “I don’t want to repeat myself. If these two are not fired, then Secretary Jiang should submit her resignation alongside them. If you sympathize with them so much, then step aside as well.”
Jin Yue was caught off guard. Had she gone too far? But her character didn’t allow her to backtrack and plead for the front desk workers. After all, this was all part of her act. She had never expected Qi Bei to be so strict.
After Qi Bei finished speaking, he pulled Jin Yue toward the elevator, leaving the front desk workers and Jiang Wanyue standing in the lobby.
Xiao Mei and Xiao An stared at each other in disbelief. When they realized what had just happened, tears welled up in their eyes.
Xiao Mei, sobbing, turned to Jiang Wanyue. “Secretary Jiang, are we really going to be fired? If it’s because of Miss Jin, can we go ask her to reconsider? We’ll even kneel if necessary.”
Jiang Wanyue calmly reassured them, “Yes, Mr. Qi’s decision is firm. You should start packing up and looking for new jobs. It’s unlikely that Miss Jin will change her mind. She even said earlier that she wouldn’t pursue this further, but Mr. Qi still decided to fire you both. Mr. Qi is extremely protective of Miss Jin, and if even she can’t persuade him, no one can. So it’s better not to bother her anymore. Who knows, if you annoy her again, things could get worse. Do you understand what I mean?”
Back in the office, Qi Bei smiled as he led Jin Yue inside. “What made you suddenly come to find me today? Missing me already?”
Although Qi Bei had previously suggested she accompany him to work, Jin Yue had always avoided it with various excuses. But today, she came on her own without him forcing her. Could it be that the method Liu Jinghao suggested last night actually worked? Was it the roses?
Jin Yue, still unsure of the exact reason, asked, “The roses—did you send them?”
