Chapter 38: Conflicts Reignite and Soft Imprisonment
Jin Yue avoided Qi Bei’s gaze, suppressing the strange emotions rising in her heart, and coldly replied, “Am I wrong? Qi Bei, you’re so big and strong, yet you can’t even compare to Cui Li?”
Cui Li looked at Qi Bei, then at Jin Yue, and ultimately decided to give them some space. He handed Qi Bei a bottle of water, then, with his nephew in tow, excused himself and left.
Qi Bei stood up, rinsed his mouth with the water, finishing the bottle quickly. He crumpled the bottle and threw it into the trash.
Without a hint of emotion, he approached Jin Yue, grabbed her shoulders firmly with both hands, and spoke in a cold tone, “So you’re trying to distance yourself from me in front of him? Do you think he’ll believe you don’t love me, that I’ve forced you?”
“Isn’t that the truth?”
Jin Yue was a little scared but pressed on.
She hadn’t expected Qi Bei to really get angry. After all, despite all her previous actions, he hadn’t reacted this way. She had almost given up hope.
But now, she realized that what truly made Qi Bei angry was another man.
Yes, the last time they broke up was because she mentioned another man—although she hadn’t named anyone specific.
“Do you like him?”
“So, what if I do? Can you let me go?”
Qi Bei laughed, his voice rough, filled with pain and bitterness. His laugh was low, heart-wrenching, and as if his heart was being torn apart.
The woman standing in front of him felt so close yet so far away.
He thought that after spending so much time together, he’d be able to forget the fact that she didn’t love him—that she had, perhaps, started to like him.
But now, it was all a lie. What about the past few days then?
Could he let go? If he could, why did he push her so hard, not caring about her feelings?
He gripped her shoulders tighter, his anger flaring. His teeth gritted as he spat, “If you want me to let go, that will never happen in this lifetime! So, what if you like him? You’ll fall into hell just like me, forever!”
His cruel expression and powerful grip left no doubt that he would never let go.
“Let go, it hurts!”
Jin Yue’s shoulders were held so tightly that they were probably bruised. She lowered her head, trying to break free from Qi Bei’s hold.
“Are you going to hurt too? Do you feel my pain? Haven’t I been good to you these days? How can you be so heartless to me?”
Qi Bei only wanted to crush Jin Yue in his fury. The two of them should just fall into hell together!
Ding, ding! Qi Bei’s phone rang.
But he didn’t pick it up.
The ringtone rang again, and only then did he loosen his grip on Jin Yue’s shoulder with one hand, while the other still stubbornly gripped her wrist to prevent her from escaping.
Qi Bei answered the phone but remained silent, only responding with a quiet “Mm” before hanging up.
Without saying a word to Jin Yue, he grabbed her hand and dragged her out.
They sped through the streets, and a few times, Jin Yue felt like she might throw up in the car. Finally, the car pulled up at Shui’an Lin Mansion.
Qi Bei expressionlessly pulled her hand, opened the door to the house, and once inside, slammed the door shut behind them without a word.
Jin Yue went upstairs and looked out the window. She saw Qi Bei outside the main gate, not leaving but taking out his phone and making a call.
