Chapter 21: The Treasury is Flooded, Revenge on the Dog Emperor
Grandfather An was walking when he suddenly felt a fierce heat rising from behind. Turning around in confusion, the soldiers stationed at the gate noticed it even quicker than he did.
A soldier shouted, “It’s bad! The fire’s started!”
Grandfather An turned, only to see that the flames had blocked his view of the warehouse. His eyes widened in shock.
“Oh no! How did the fire start?”
He immediately ran, dropping two lychees from the basket.
Xie Zhizhi also took the opportunity to step outside.
The area outside became chaotic, with most of the soldiers running to the well to fetch water and extinguish the fire.
“The treasury is flooded! The warehouse is flooded!”
“Quick! Go fetch water!”
“Don’t let it spread to the other three treasuries!”
As the fire grew stronger, soldiers guarding the other warehouses rushed to help.
This situation was convenient for Xie Zhizhi.
She went to the next warehouse, where the door was tightly shut, but that didn’t stop her. She threw a handful of fire out, and the main door ignited.
When two soldiers saw this, they immediately threw water at it and tried to break the door down. “Quick! Break down the door! Don’t let it burn the inside!”
Xie Zhizhi waited for the door to open before sneaking in.
Inside was a grain warehouse, filled with baskets of grains, food, and countless supplies.
She quickly stored everything in her space.
Next, she headed to the weapons warehouse next door.
Repeating her previous trick, she set the door on fire again, and soon another door was being dismantled.
The soldiers were terrified, their legs shaking. “What’s going on with this door? Why did it catch fire on its own?”
Xie Zhizhi had already slipped inside.
This treasury’s weaponry was the most comprehensive collection in the entire capital, and the size of the warehouse was five times larger than that of a general’s mansion.
She swiftly stored the weapons in her space, recognizing some firearms, such as matchlock guns, gunpowder bombs, iron cannons, and many other types of firearms.
It seemed that this alternate ancient world had made significant progress in weapon development, with gunpowder already being used.
After finishing with the weapons, she looked at the large pile of items in her space. She found a wide area and placed them there.
She then glanced outside, noticing that the only remaining treasure trove was the vault for money.
Luckily, she had the space, or she would have missed out on such valuable treasures.
She could study them later.
After passing through a group of soldiers busy with firefighting, she continued toward the last warehouse.
She set fire to the door, which was soon dismantled.
Entering the vault, she found it was mostly filled with silver ingots. There were only about ten boxes of gold, but there were hundreds of boxes of silver ingots, about several million taels—extremely abundant!
With a thought, she stored all the boxes in her space.
The remaining items were rare jade stones, luxurious antiques, and expensive jewelry, which she also stored away.
In no time, the 500-square-meter room was emptied.
The soldiers were completely disoriented, frantically putting out the fire and realizing that the other warehouses had disappeared. They immediately went to report to the emperor.
Xie Zhizhi leisurely left the treasury, wondering where she should go next.
She saw the soldier who had gone to inform the emperor and decided to follow him.
…
Zhaoyang Palace.
The emperor, who had been coaxed by the imperial concubine to lift the confinement of the Third Prince, was enjoying a beautiful night when a soldier arrived to interrupt him.
“Your Majesty, the treasury is flooded! Everything… everything is gone…”
The soldier didn’t know how to explain everything had disappeared without getting executed.
The emperor’s face darkened, and after quickly dressing, he came out, staring at the soldier with a gloomy expression. “Say that again! Everything is gone?”
The soldier lowered his head, steeling himself, and finally spoke, “Everything in the treasury is gone!”
Slap!
Suddenly, the soldier felt darkness before him, as a shadow loomed over him, almost flattening him. He looked up and realized it was the emperor!
He quickly held his tongue.
The emperor was so furious that he fainted, collapsing on the soldier.
The imperial concubine rushed out, screaming, “Ah! The emperor fainted! Someone, quickly!”
Xie Zhizhi, watching from her space, couldn’t believe the emperor’s fragile health. This made things even easier for her.
He had dared to order her execution and put a bounty on her head.
She had quite the memory for grudges!
What would be the best way to take revenge?
Such a good opportunity needed to be used wisely.
Soon, the imperial doctor arrived and quickly placed the emperor in a bed in the imperial concubine’s side hall to treat him.
The doctor examined the emperor, then gave him an acupuncture treatment, explaining, “The emperor has been overworking and is in poor health, which is why he couldn’t handle the stress and fainted. It’s nothing serious. After brewing the medicine, the imperial concubine can help him drink it, and he’ll wake up soon.”
“Thank you, Dr. Chen. Just bring the medicine here once it’s ready,” the imperial concubine said, sending the doctor out.
Since the emperor had been enjoying his night life, the servants hadn’t yet come in. The luxurious side hall was now empty except for the unconscious emperor.
Xie Zhizhi noticed his eyelashes twitching. He was about to wake up.
With a malicious thought, she appeared from her space, holding a syringe filled with medicine that would keep him in his bed for a long time.
The emperor weakly opened his eyes and was startled to see a woman by his bed. He almost fainted again. “You…”
His words were so faint that no one outside could hear.
Xie Zhizhi quickly inserted the needle into his arm, coldly smiling, “I am Xie Zhizhi. You’re the one who orchestrated the death of my father and brother, right?”
The emperor was terrified. Xie Zhizhi? How did she know that he had orchestrated their deaths?
What was she holding in her hand? Why was she injecting it into his skin?
He felt incredibly drowsy, unable to speak anymore.
Within a minute, the emperor’s fearful gaze grew distant as he completely passed out.
Xie Zhizhi withdrew the syringe and vanished into her space, leaving without a trace.
