The Peasant Wife Has a Space Chapter 56

Chapter 56: The Jiang Family (Part 3)

The Jiang family must remember this kindness!

If there’s any way to repay it in the future, they must not treat others unfairly.

Jiang Xiaoya and Jiang Tiedan each broke a bun in half and handed it to Grandpa Jiang and Grandma Jiang.

“Grandpa, Grandma, I’ve never eaten white flour buns before.”

Jiang Xiaoya said excitedly, but her words carried a touch of bitterness in the ears of the elderly couple from the Jiang family.

In the past, with the wealth of the Jiang family, they could have whatever they wanted to eat. They could have extravagant delicacies every meal.

But now, they had fallen to this point, where even having enough to eat had become a problem.

Fortunately, the mentality of the elderly couple from the Jiang family was still relatively good. If their mentality had been bad, they might have collapsed long ago.

Grandma Jiang smiled and patted Jiang Xiaoya’s head. “Xiaoya, you eat it. Grandma won’t eat.”

For just one bun, Grandma Jiang didn’t want to split it in half. She wanted to leave all of it for her grandchildren to eat.

“No, Xiaoya wants to be like Grandma. If Grandma doesn’t eat, Xiaoya won’t eat either.”

Seeing Jiang Xiaoya’s stubborn look, Grandma Jiang had to relent. “Alright, Grandma will eat, and Xiaoya will eat too.”

“Yeah yeah!”

The four members of the Jiang family had a rare good meal because of the buns given by Zhao Xiulan.

Meanwhile, after Jiang Xiaoya and Jiang Tiedan left, Zhao Xiulan found a shady place to lie down and rest.

On the other hand, Li Lijuan had already arrived in the county town and had been wandering around the county town for a while.

It took Li Lijuan three hours to get to the county town, and she was already exhausted. Her legs felt like they were about to break.

Li Lijuan began to regret as soon as she arrived. Compared to working, walking so much was even more exhausting. If she had known, she wouldn’t have made that bet with Zhao Xiulan.

Now that she had come, if she couldn’t beg for food, it would show that her abilities were inferior to Zhao Xiulan’s, which would be too embarrassing. She didn’t want to be ridiculed by Zhao Xiulan.

With this determination, Li Lijuan persisted in wandering around the county town.

She did see a bit of the world, but she hadn’t obtained any food.

After struggling for a whole morning, she was exhausted. By noon, she couldn’t walk anymore, and her stomach was growling from hunger.

She couldn’t bear to continue like this.

However, she hadn’t planned ahead when she left home. She didn’t bring any money with her, so now she couldn’t even find water, let alone food to eat!

Under the scorching sun at noon, Li Lijuan felt like she was about to be roasted to death.

“So hungry!” Li Lijuan touched her stomach. She had hoped to beg for some food like Zhao Xiulan did, but now that she was here, she realised things weren’t as simple as she had thought.

Continuing to linger in the county town was not an option. Not only was it exhausting, but she would also starve or parch to death.

Going back directly was also not an option. She would definitely be laughed at by Zhao Xiulan!

In the future, in front of Zhao Xiulan, where would she find the face to complain?

So the best way was to quickly beg for some food. If that didn’t work, stealing a little or snatching a little would do, as long as she could get some food without losing face in front of Zhao Xiulan.

With this determination, Li Lijuan continued to walk.

She walked into an alley and saw an old lady drying corn and millet in the yard.

When Li Lijuan saw her, she approached and asked, “Grandma, could you give me some food?”

The old lady glanced at Li Lijuan and felt puzzled.

Looking at Li Lijuan’s clothes, they were not shabby at all. Why was she asking for food? In this day and age, even their own family didn’t have enough food to eat, who would be willing to give food to others?

So faced with Li Lijuan’s inquiry, the old lady said somewhat irritably, “I only have this little bit of food at home, not enough for ourselves. Why are you asking me for food? You’re dressed better than me, you don’t look like you’re begging for food!”
