The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s
The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s Chapter 12: Speculation

It is said that after death, a person’s lingering obsessions amplify, forcing them to relive their deepest nightmares. He had thought that was exactly what was happening to him.

But it wasn’t until just now, when he clearly felt the warmth of a human body, that he realized something was wrong.

At this thought, Qi Han couldn’t help but pinch his thigh. Instantly, a sharp pain shot through him.

“Tsk—”

Qi Han narrowed his eyes. He could feel pain!

So this wasn’t a dream?

With this realization, it suddenly dawned on him that the claw marks on his chest were also throbbing with pain. In fact, many parts of his body ached, especially his right calf.

Everything happening now was real. He was a living, breathing person—this was neither a dream nor hell.

So…?

Qi Han suppressed the storm of shock raging in his heart.

Qin Tianru blinked, watching the man’s series of reactions with confusion. Something seemed off about him.

Could there be something wrong with his brain?

“Hey, say something! What exactly is bothering you?”

“I’m fine. Did you save me?”

Qi Han quickly sorted through the chaotic thoughts in his mind, gradually forming a clear line of reasoning.

“Glad you’re okay. Can you walk now? We need to find shelter from the wind and rain as soon as possible. Besides, we can’t stay here long—I’m worried the scent of the wolf’s blood will attract other wild animals.”

Given their current state—one injured and the other weak—lingering here was the last thing they should do. Otherwise, they might face a second wave of attacks tonight.

“Mm.”

Qi Han frowned slightly, glancing at the dead wolf before nodding solemnly.

The speculation in his mind still needed time to confirm, but their top priority now was securing shelter for the night.

Qi Han pressed his hands against the ground, attempting to stand, but a dull pain shot through his right calf. His body swayed, and he promptly fell back onto the ground.

“What’s wrong?” Qin Tianru asked anxiously.

Qi Han’s expression darkened. “My right foot—it seems fractured.”

If he remembered correctly, to be precise, it was a fracture in his right talus. In his memory, this talus injury had taken several months to heal properly.

But due to a lack of proper care during the recovery process, his right leg had weakened. Whenever he overexerted himself, it would ache with a dull pain.

“…” Qin Tianru was slightly surprised—so he really did have internal injuries. She had already mostly healed the external wounds on his right leg earlier, enough that they shouldn’t affect his ability to walk.

But if it was a bone fracture or internal injury, she wasn’t sure if her newly mutated ability could handle that.

Still, she didn’t dare attempt anything now. The last thing she wanted was to shock this man into fainting with a sudden display of power.

More importantly, she hadn’t yet figured out the reason for her time-traveling. Everything she had speculated earlier was just her own guesswork.

Until she had solid confirmation, she wouldn’t recklessly reveal her trump card.

“It’s fine. I can walk.”

Qi Han gritted his teeth and slowly stood up, favoring his uninjured leg. If they didn’t leave now, he couldn’t guarantee he’d be able to fight off another wild wolf.

Earlier, his mind had been too slow to react, his consciousness still hazy. That was why he had ignored the pain in his leg and fought the wolf purely on adrenaline.

“Wait a second.”

Seeing his struggle, Qin Tianru glanced around before running to the right. She snapped off a branch about two fingers thick, stripped off the excess leaves, and fashioned it into a makeshift crutch.
