Now was not the time to worry about the durability of the crutch. The most urgent task was to leave this place first. They could think about their next steps once they found a suitable place to settle.
“Here, make do with this for now.”
“Thank you.”
Qi Han suddenly noticed the other person’s fair palm was red and swollen. His gaze darkened as he took the makeshift crutch.
Immediately afterward, Qin Tianru ran back to the large tree, picked up the clothes from the ground, and draped them over her wrist. Then, she grabbed the medical kit with one hand and picked up the night pearl from the ground with the other.
Seeing this, Qi Han’s eyes flickered, his expression thoughtful. Many details he hadn’t paid attention to before now connected in his mind.
“Let’s hurry and go,” Qin Tianru urged, glancing around nervously, afraid another wild beast might appear.
“Wait a moment longer,” Qi Han said solemnly.
Under Qin Tianru’s puzzled gaze, Qi Han picked up the Swiss knife from the ground, dug a pit beside the wolf’s corpse, and buried it.
The wolf’s blood had a strong, pungent smell. To avoid attracting other beasts too quickly, it was best to cover up the scent. This would buy them more time to escape.
“Awooo—”
Just then, a howl echoed from not far away.
“Oh no, the wolves are coming!”
Qin Tianru’s face paled, her expression tense.
Although she was gifted and had possessed plant-based supernatural abilities since childhood, she wasn’t arrogant enough to believe she was invincible and had nothing to fear.
Her abilities were limited to accelerating seed growth and, it seemed now, healing wounds. Beyond that, they had no other formidable uses.
Qi Han put away the Swiss knife and quickly took his coat from Qin Tianru’s wrist, putting it on to cover the wolf’s bloodstains on his body as much as possible.
“Let’s go!”
Limping and leaning on the crutch, Qi Han led the way in a chosen direction.
Qin Tianru followed closely behind, holding the night pearl aloft to light their path.
As she matched the man’s pace, she couldn’t help but glance at him. Seeing his pained expression, she pressed her lips together.
The two walked in silence, pushing forward as fast as they could.
When the man turned onto a narrow path, crossed through a patch of grass, and headed toward the mountains, Qin Tianru frowned slightly.
Her hands were scratched by leaves and branches as they walked, and her feet were bruised by the uneven stones on the ground. Gritting her teeth, she said nothing.
She was completely unfamiliar with the terrain and road conditions here, so she could only follow him step by step. Judging by his actions, it seemed he knew where a safe place was nearby?
Thus, Qin Tianru obediently followed him even more closely.
The two arrived at the foot of a mountain. Because it was dark, Qin Tianru couldn’t clearly make out the surroundings.
“This is the place.”
Qi Han pushed aside a patch of grass and walked inside.
Qin Tianru’s eyes instantly lit up—it was a cave!
It seemed their safety for the night was secured. They could finally rest in peace.
By the light of the luminous pearl, they could roughly see the interior of the cave. It wasn’t large, about ten square meters, but it was spacious enough for the two of them.
Perhaps because it had been untouched by sunlight for years, the cave carried a damp, musty scent.
“Do you have matches?” Qi Han turned to ask the woman as she entered.
“No matches, but I have this.” Qin Tianru took a lighter from her pocket and handed it to him.
