The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s
The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s Chapter 14: Exposed

Qi Han’s eyes flickered slightly as he observed the woman’s face, which showed no unusual expression. Then, without revealing anything, he took the lighter from her.

“Thank you.”

Soon, a small fire was lit in the cave.

Qi Han leaned against the cave wall, his thoughts gradually clearing.

He had already checked earlier—just as he remembered—all his valuables were gone. He was truly penniless.

If he hadn’t been sure before, then after half an hour of walking a real, tangible path, there was no longer any doubt. If he still couldn’t accept the truth now, then his intelligence would truly be in question.

“Do you need some medicine?”

Qin Tianru noticed the man sitting silently and glanced at the bloodstains still visible on his chest. She broke the quiet atmosphere with her question.

“Huh?”

Qi Han looked up and followed her gesture toward his chest, quickly understanding.

“Thank you.”

As he watched her open the medical kit and skillfully prepare the supplies, he couldn’t help but ask, “Are you a doctor?”

“No.” Qin Tianru smiled and shook her head.

Qi Han nodded in understanding. “I’ll do it myself.”

“Alright.”

Qin Tianru agreed readily. Now that he was awake, she couldn’t apply the medicine as freely as she had before.

She turned slightly to add more firewood to the flames, avoiding the sight of him tending to his wounds.

“Can I ask which city this is? Or rather, what region are we in?”

At her question, Qi Han paused briefly while applying the medicine. “This is southern Shu Province. About ten kilometers from here is Rong County.”

“Shu Province? Rong County?”

Qin Tianru murmured the names, her delicate brows furrowing unconsciously. These were places she wasn’t familiar with!

“It’s February 28, 1950.”

Qi Han stared at the woman and abruptly stated the date, his gaze locked onto her face, searching for any reaction.

“What? 1950?”

A flash of surprise crossed Qin Tianru’s face. Was this a parallel world—or an alternate version of the 1950s?

She was born in the 1970s and grew up in the 1980s—the 1950s were nothing more than a historical record in textbooks to her.

“Uh, I came from a very distant place, so could you tell me the name of this territory?”

Qi Han’s eyes narrowed slightly. It seemed this woman’s origins were different from what he had guessed.

“Huaguo (China)!”

Qin Tianru’s eyes widened, but she quickly composed herself.

So, she had indeed traveled to an entirely unfamiliar alternate world.

She only knew of “Huaxia,” “Zhonghua,” and “The Republic”—what kind of country was this “Huaguo”?

“Who are you? Where are you from?” Qi Han asked solemnly.

He thought that the reason for his bizarre experience might be related to the woman in front of him, so he decided to stop hiding and probing.

Though they hadn’t spent much time together, he could sense that she bore no ill will toward him. In fact, he had a vague feeling that she wouldn’t harm him.

Qin Tianru hesitated. “My name is Qin Tianru. As for where I’m from… even if I told you, you probably wouldn’t know. It’s a very distant place—”

Qi Han tested the waters. “You’re not from this time period?”

“!!” Qin Tianru was stunned. Oh no, was my cover blown so quickly?

She lowered her head, unable to meet his gaze. Her situation was complicated, and she didn’t want to expose herself too soon. Just as she was about to scramble for another excuse, the weight of his stare made her freeze.

Damn it, so I’ve already been exposed!
