The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s Chapter 19: Mutual Understanding

“You… what do you mean by that? What do you mean by ‘an extra lifetime of experience’? Is it what I think it is?”

Qin Tianru’s face was full of astonishment. Though she already had a guess in her heart, she still found it somewhat hard to believe.

Qi Han replied calmly, “It’s exactly what you’re thinking.”

Some things didn’t need to be said outright—as long as they both understood each other, that was enough.

With the confirmation, Qin Tianru’s long, upturned eyelashes fluttered, her expression still somewhat dazed.

She had never imagined she would encounter such an astonishing situation. She had always thought her family’s circumstances were already extraordinary enough, but she never expected something even more fantastical.

This kind of thing completely defied scientific explanation and was beyond human understanding.

Could this be the reason she had traveled through time and space to come to his side? Because of his uniqueness?

Gurgle~

Suddenly, a rumbling sound interrupted Qin Tianru’s thoughts. She followed the noise and saw Qi Han looking embarrassed and extremely uncomfortable.

“How long has it been since you last ate?”

Qin Tianru didn’t find it strange at all. Food was the essence of life—it was perfectly normal for a hungry stomach to growl. Besides, given his journey as a refugee, he probably hadn’t had a proper meal in a while.

“Over a day,” Qi Han answered sheepishly.

He had shaken off his pursuers under the cover of darkness the night before, only to accidentally tumble down a steep slope. His right leg had collided with a large rock during the fall.

At the moment of impact, he had even heard the crisp sound of his shinbone cracking. But at the time, he hadn’t been able to stop and check the injury. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he had fled all the way to the shelter of that large tree.

Originally, he had planned to push straight through to the county town, but his right foot hurt too much. Combined with the exhaustion from running through the mountains for so long, his stamina was completely drained.

So when he saw the thick tree trunk, he hid behind it, intending to rest briefly. But his body gave out, and he lost consciousness.

Qin Tianru’s lips pressed together slightly in surprise. With a flip of her right hand, a coconut bread appeared in her palm.

“Here, eat this. I baked it at home.”

“…” Qi Han was stunned. Staring at the bread that seemed to be emitting faint wisps of steam, his composed expression shattered, replaced by sheer disbelief.

Was his vision playing tricks on him?

How did this bread suddenly appear?

His eyes fixed tightly on Qin Tianru. Maybe she had taken it out from her coat pocket?

Aside from the two pockets on her coat, there was nowhere else she could have stored anything. But had her pockets even been holding anything earlier?

He distinctly remembered glancing at her coat pockets earlier—they had looked completely flat.

Seeing the man frozen in place, Qin Tianru simply held the bread up to Qi Han’s mouth. “Hurry up and eat! Why are you spacing out? Aren’t you hungry?”

Qi Han instinctively opened his mouth and bit into the bread held before him. A sweet, fragrant flavor instantly filled his mouth, making his stomach growl even louder.

So he took the bread and began eating. In his previous life, he had eaten this kind of thing before—it smelled good, but the sweetness always felt a bit cloying, and the texture was never quite light and fluffy enough.

But the bread he was eating now had a soft exterior with a crisp, fragrant bite. The wheat aroma was rich, yet it wasn’t overly sweet—the taste was perfect.

It was delicious!

Qin Tianru watched as he devoured the large bread in just a few bites and quickly pulled out two more, along with a carton of milk.

These were part of the breakfast stash she always carried. Whenever she overslept or was in a hurry at school, she’d grab them for a quick meal.
