The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s
The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s Chapter 20: A Strange Feeling

“Here, eat slowly. Don’t rush, or you might upset your stomach. Have some milk too.”

After handing Qi Han the bread, Qin Tianru thoughtfully inserted the straw into the milk carton for him.

Seeing the bread and milk appear out of thin air again, Qi Han wasn’t as shocked as before. Instead, he gave Qin Tianru a deep, meaningful look.

“Thank you.”

Could someone like her really be here to become his wife?

Now that he thought about it, the whole thing felt surreal—like he’d been hit by a stroke of unbelievable luck.

Judging by her demeanor, it was clear she had been pampered and cherished by her family, growing up without suffering any hardships—a true young lady accustomed to comfort.

Would a girl like her really be willing to endure hardship with him? Would she stay in this backward era?

Not that he lacked confidence in himself—he knew his own worth—but it all depended on what you compared it to.

Obviously, the world she came from was far more advanced than this 1950s era.

As Qi Han savored the delicious food, his heart remained unsettled.

Perhaps it was because she had saved him, or maybe it was her claim about their “heaven-ordained marriage,” but for some reason, he didn’t feel any aversion toward her. On the contrary, he even felt an inexplicable urge to get closer to her.

And when she had said she wanted to be his wife, a strange emotion had flickered through his heart.

After finishing another coconut bread, he looked up and noticed her staring intently at him. Instinctively, he wiped the corner of his mouth.

Being stared at so openly by a girl still made him, a grown man, feel a little embarrassed.

“Have you eaten yet?”

Qin Tianru smiled. “I ate before you woke up.”

Qi Han gave a quiet hum, then, as if worried he was being too dull, quickly added a compliment.

“The bread is delicious.”

“I’m glad you like it. I know how to make all kinds of pastries and snacks—I’ll make some for you when I get the chance.”

At the mention of food, Qin Tianru’s face lit up with a sweet smile. She didn’t have many hobbies—her lifestyle was relaxed and carefree, centered around eating well and enjoying life.

When she stayed at home, she either cooked or tended to the flowers and plants in her garden.

In short, she was an easygoing, ambition-free homebody who simply loved a quiet, comfortable life.

Being able to do what she loved and eat what she enjoyed—that was the life she wanted.

But now, it seemed she should add one more thing to her list: having a loving partner by her side. A cozy home for two, sharing three meals a day through all four seasons.

What could be more blissful than such a heavenly life?

The future? Hearing that word, Qi Han’s heart couldn’t help but race. Was she already imagining *their future?

Though he felt a little flustered, he couldn’t deny the flicker of joy spreading in his chest.

“Okay.”

Qi Han hid his faint smile behind another bite of bread.

In his past life, revenge had consumed him, leaving no room for matters of the heart. In the end, he had his vengeance—but at the cost of his health, burdened with chronic pain.

Truthfully, deep down, he had always longed for a warm and loving home—a sweet, gentle wife, a pair of adorable children, and a livelihood that could sustain their little family. Just a simple, peaceful life.

But fate had other plans. There would always be those who couldn’t stand to see others happy, who would trample on dignity and sacrifice lives without hesitation if it served their own interests.
