The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s Chapter 23: Abnormal Ability

“Could it be that there isn’t enough blood?”

Qi Han voiced his speculation. This time, the green light was noticeably fainter than what he had seen earlier, as if it lacked sufficient energy.

As he spoke, he picked up the Swiss army knife again, ready to make a deeper cut.

“Stop!”

Qin Tianru was so startled that she immediately grabbed his hand to stop his act of ‘self-harm.’

“Are you stupid? Your blood isn’t free for you to just slash like that. How can you be so careless with your own body?”

Though her words were scolding, Qin Tianru quickly began healing his wound. A faint green light flashed, and the cut on Qi Han’s finger instantly healed, leaving no trace of the knife’s mark.

“Don’t bother, it’s no use.”

Qi Han frowned. “Didn’t you say my blood could heal your ability?”

Qin Tianru sighed softly. “That’s right. Before, it was indeed your blood that caused my ability to mutate. But just now, when I absorbed your blood, the feeling was different.

“Suddenly, I had this realization—your blood might just be a key, a key that unlocks the upgrade of my ability. Once my ability upgrades, the energy it needs will no longer be your blood.

“How should I put it? Your blood is like a catalyst, only serving as the most crucial step. The rest will require other forms of energy to sustain it. Does that explanation make sense to you?”

She didn’t know why she had this understanding, but the moment she absorbed his blood, this awareness surfaced in her mind.

The blood was no longer useful.

What she needed now seemed to be some other kind of life force energy.

Qi Han nodded silently. “I understand.”

Truth be told, when he learned that his blood could help her ability, he had felt a surge of joy. It gave him a sense of being important to her, of sharing an inseparable bond.

For some reason, he wanted to be needed by her!

So now, he couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.

“Then what does your ability need now?”

Qi Han couldn’t resist pressing further. As long as he knew what she required, he would find a way to get it for her.

Qin Tianru puffed out her cheeks, looking a little lost. “I don’t know right now, but I feel like once I come across it, my ability will let me know. Overthinking it won’t help, so let’s just go with the flow for now.”

“Alright. If you ever need anything, just tell me,” Qi Han said firmly.

Qin Tianru smiled and nodded, then glanced at his leg and asked, “How does your leg feel now? I wonder if this healing power can mend bone injuries.”

Qi Han slowly stood up and tentatively moved his right leg to test it. A small smile soon appeared on his face.

“It worked. I feel much better.”

“Really? You’re not lying to me?” Qin Tianru asked excitedly.

Qi Han nodded. “Really. The pain has lessened a lot.”

If that green light hadn’t faded and the healing had continued, he was certain his bone injury would have fully recovered.

But compared to the pain he had felt before, this slight discomfort now was practically negligible. Considering how, in his past life, he had spent months recovering and still ended up with lasting effects, his current condition was already a vast improvement.

Even though it wasn’t fully healed, he was more than satisfied.

“What a shame! The healing power had to fail at the most critical moment—otherwise, your injury would’ve been completely cured.”

Qin Tianru looked regretful, even a little frustrated. If only she could have healed his bone injury, he wouldn’t have had to suffer so much.
