The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s
The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s Chapter 30: Sharing Breakfast

“I can just eat wild berries. A grown man like me doesn’t need anything fancy. You should save these for lunch,” Qi Han said stiffly, offering no further explanation.

Qin Tianru puffed her cheeks in frustration. “My mom said a good man listens to his wife. I’m not even your wife yet, and you’re already refusing to listen to me? Do you not see me as your future wife?”

Qi Han was stunned. What kind of logic was this?

He just wanted to save the milk and bread for her—how did that suddenly make him a bad man who didn’t treat her as his wife?

Qin Tianru softened her tone, persuading him gently. “Don’t worry, I won’t let you go hungry. The food in my storage space is enough for us for two days. Even though there isn’t much milk and bread left, I still have some pastries and snacks.

“And even if we run out of food, it’s not a problem. Have you forgotten my special ability? I can accelerate the growth of plants. Besides, once we reach a populated area, I can use gold to buy whatever we need.

“Just eat properly. How could I enjoy good food knowing you’re only eating wild berries? Didn’t you say the journey ahead is long? If you don’t eat well, how will you protect me?”

Her words struck Qi Han’s heart, filling him with warmth and a twinge of shame.

“Alright, I’ll eat.”

In their current situation, pride was nothing but pretentiousness. The most important thing was to escape their predicament and return to the provincial capital as soon as possible.

Since he had already acknowledged her place in his heart, why bother drawing such clear lines? In the future, he would repay her kindness a hundredfold with his utmost sincerity.

To hesitate over such trivial matters—he really was regressing, acting childish and ridiculous.

“That’s more like it! Good food should be shared with those closest to you—that’s how its flavor is doubled.”

Qin Tianru held a coconut bread in her hand, her eyes curving into happy crescents.

“You’re right,” Qi Han replied, a bright smile spreading across his face.

And so, the two sat side by side, each holding a piece of bread in one hand and a carton of milk in the other. They ate slowly, occasionally exchanging glances, their faces filled with joy.

Though it was just a simple breakfast, they savored it as if it were the most delicious delicacy in the world, eating with unparalleled happiness and satisfaction.

The cave was filled with a sweet, sugary fragrance.

After breakfast, they tidied up briefly. Before setting off, however, Qi Han frowned as he studied Qin Tianru’s outfit.

“Do you have any plainer clothes in your storage space?”

The winter coat could still be passed off as a trendy foreign import—after all, in the 1950s, China’s import-export trade was still in a state of friendly exchange.

As long as one had money, owning foreign goods wasn’t particularly unusual. Even if someone recognized the clothing, they’d just think the style was novel and avant-garde.

Unless they were a time traveler from the future, no one would suspect anything beyond that.

But her short-sleeved top, shorts, and bunny slippers were another matter. Their designs were far harder to explain—this wasn’t just a question of fashion trends but of fitting in with local sensibilities.

“Huh?”

Hearing this, Qin Tianru looked down at her clothes and realized her outfit was indeed inappropriate.

“Let me check,” she said.
