“Hiss—”
As soon as they stepped off the train, a cold gust of wind hit them head-on, making Qin Tianru suck in a sharp breath.
“Put on your coat. It’s chilly at night.”
With passengers bustling around them, Qi Han didn’t want to risk exposing her to any danger, so he simply took off his own jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
“I’m fine. You’re only wearing a thin shirt—won’t you be even colder?”
Qin Tianru moved to take off the jacket and return it to him.
“Keep it on. I’m plenty warm.”
Qi Han stopped her with a hand, too embarrassed to say outright that men naturally ran hotter and weren’t bothered by a little cold wind.
“Alright then, let’s hurry up and go.”
Seeing his firm stance, Qin Tianru relented and kept the jacket on. But it was true—her man had a solid physique, the kind that looked lean in clothes but was all muscle underneath.
She’d seen it with her own eyes—verified!
Carrying the lightweight luggage bag, Qi Han led Qin Tianru out of the train station and followed the route from his memory until they arrived at the gate of a large house.
This residence was an old-era mansion left behind by a wealthy family. Nearly all the houses in the area were of similar style, though their sizes varied.
The location was excellent. Back then, Qi Han’s grandfather had gone to great lengths to purchase this property. By the 1970s, its value had already multiplied several times over.
It could be said that this house held all the fondest memories of his childhood.
“Is this the place?”
Noticing Qi Han standing frozen in front of the gate, Qin Tianru gently prompted him.
“Yeah.”
Qi Han snapped out of his daze, suddenly feeling an inexplicable mix of nervousness and nostalgia. In his memories, he had been separated from his parents for over a decade.
Now, he was about to see them again—how could his heart not race with excitement?
He had returned much earlier this time. His parents and younger siblings… they must all be doing well, right?
Qi Han raised his hand, hesitated for a brief moment, then knocked on the gate.
Knock, knock, knock—
After three raps, movement finally sounded from inside the courtyard.
“Coming, coming!”
An elderly voice called out from within, followed by the creak of the gate opening.
“Young Master! You’re back? Are you alright?”
Old Man Liu, the moment he opened the door and saw Qi Han standing outside, was so overcome with emotion that his eyes turned red.
“Uncle Liu, I’m fine. Let’s talk inside first.”
Qi Han looked at the old butler from his memories, his tone carrying both respect and warmth.
Old Man Liu and his wife, Granny Liu, had been with the Qi family since his grandfather settled in the provincial capital. After his grandfather passed, the elderly couple stayed with his parents’ branch of the family, remaining utterly loyal.
In his past life, the misfortunes that befell his family had also brought suffering upon the old couple. They had fallen ill and passed away even before his parents. This time, he was determined to ensure they lived out their years in peace.
“Right, right—silly me!” Old Man Liu smacked his forehead lightly, his face crinkling into a wide smile.
Suddenly, as if belatedly realizing something, he hurriedly added, “I should go notify the Master and Madam right away! They’ll be overjoyed to hear you’re back.”
“Uncle Liu, wait.”
Qi Han quickly stopped him and instructed, “Just wake my parents quietly. Don’t make too much noise.”
Though puzzled, Old Man Liu didn’t ask questions and obediently complied.
Halfway there, he suddenly halted and glanced back in surprise. Had he just seen a young lady?
Was his eyesight failing him?
Since when did the Young Master bring a girl home?
And if he wasn’t mistaken… this was the first time the Young Master had ever brought a girl back, wasn’t it?
Swallowing his curiosity, Old Man Liu quickened his pace to the east wing to fetch the Master and Madam.
