The Qi Family Residence.
After Qi Han and Huanhuan left the house, Qi Yuanhua and his wife did not return to their room to rest. With their two children out handling matters, how could they possibly sleep peacefully?
With so much lumber in the warehouse, how could the two of them possibly move it all? Yet their eldest son had confidently assured them that there was no problem and asked them to trust him to handle it.
How could they possibly sit still after that?
As soon as the two left, Shen Yuerong busied herself with other tasks.
The children had returned suddenly, and their rooms hadn’t been prepared in time. There was no way they could let Huanhuan share a room with Xiao Han.
Although the relationship between the two had been made official, proper etiquette still had to be observed. Boundaries could not be crossed.
Meanwhile, Qi Yuanhua sat absentmindedly in the living room, sipping tea intermittently.
Although he had already accepted the truth of what the children had told them, he still felt as though he were in a dream—none of it seemed quite real.
As for his elder brother’s ruthlessness, he had never noticed it before. After all, his brother always wore a cheerful smile and was very easygoing with everyone.
As for his sister-in-law, though she sometimes liked to argue over trivial matters, that was just typical behavior for some women.
Who could have guessed that beneath their facades lay such a vicious scheme?
Was he too foolish, or was his elder brother’s family simply too good at hiding their true nature?
It wasn’t until Shen Yuerong finished tidying the rooms and returned to the living room that Qi Yuanhua finally fully processed everything that had happened that night.
Now, his emotions had settled considerably from the initial shock, and he could think about things calmly and rationally.
“All done?”
Shen Yuerong took a sip of tea. “It’s all set. Thankfully, the guest room was already fully stocked with everything needed.”
“Hmm. No movement from over there, right?” Qi Yuanhua glanced in the direction of his eldest brother’s residence.
“None. They’ve been sound asleep for a while now.”
A hint of mockery unconsciously tugged at Shen Yuerong’s lips. She now understood the true meaning of the saying, “You can know a person’s face but not their heart.”
Over the years, she had shown respect to the eldest brother and his wife purely out of consideration for the old master and her own husband. As for her personal feelings, she had never held any deep affection for them.
Especially in the last two years, as the children from both families had grown older, life had inevitably brought occasional friction. The superficial harmony maintained over the years had gradually been worn away by the eldest brother’s family.
Now that she knew of their schemes, all that remained in her heart was resentment.
Qi Yuanhua didn’t want to dwell too much on his elder brother’s family—just thinking about it filled him with frustration—so he changed the subject.
“Do you think there are really people in this world who can foresee the future?”
Shen Yuerong shot her husband a sidelong glance. “How do you know there aren’t? The world is vast and full of wonders. Besides, even if such extraordinary individuals exist, they’re not the kind of people ordinary folks like us would ever encounter.
“Really, our Xiao Han is blessed to have met one. Otherwise, tell me, how else would he have known about such a meticulously planned scheme?
“If Xiao Han hadn’t spoken up, the two of us might have been harmed while still foolishly treating those people as family. Even now, just thinking about the fate our family could have suffered, I can’t help but shudder.”
As she spoke, Shen Yuerong’s eyes reddened. She had now seen the true nature of the eldest brother’s family and would never again regard them as kin.
Since they could commit such cruel acts, she saw no reason to remain bound by familial ties.
