Unfortunately, the wolf did not hear Qin Tianru’s prayers. With its head held high and a confident stride, it moved like a king, its gaze fixed on them with an air of inevitability—as if they were already a delicious meal served on a platter.
Qin Tianru sniffled, holding back her tears as she silently steeled herself.
She couldn’t just stay passive. Otherwise, they really would end up as its dinner.
Suddenly, an idea flashed in her mind. She immediately retrieved a lighter from her storage space, along with a thick, fluffy winter coat.
Next, she opened the medical kit, took out a small bottle of alcohol, and poured it onto the coat. Then, with a flick of the lighter, she set the coat ablaze. Whoosh! The fabric caught fire instantly.
Qin Tianru quickly grabbed one of the sleeves and swung the burning coat in front of them, hoping to scare the wolf away—at least for the moment.
Of course, she knew that a creature as ferocious as a wolf wouldn’t be easily intimidated by a small fire. Given enough time, it would likely find another opportunity to attack.
Sure enough, the wolf paused, but its eerie green eyes remained locked onto her.
Qin Tianru exhaled slightly in relief. The only thing she felt grateful for right now was that this wasn’t a pack of wolves—just a lone one. Otherwise, no matter what she did, it would have been a futile struggle.
She didn’t dare waste any time. Standing up, she grabbed handfuls of dry weeds from the ground and tossed them onto the fire. The rough, hurried motions left several red scratches on her delicate palms.
But there was no room for complaints or hesitation. Keeping one eye on the wolf’s movements, she continuously fed the fire, trying to expand the burning area.
With the flames acting as a temporary barrier, Qin Tianru took advantage of the brief respite to pull out a cotton T-shirt from her storage space. Using the Swiss knife, she quickly cut the fabric into strips and wrapped them around the end of a wooden stick.
Then, she poured the remaining alcohol from the small bottle onto the makeshift torch.
There. A rudimentary firebrand.
There was no other choice. Her future partner was still unconscious, and she couldn’t stray too far from him. That meant she couldn’t gather more weeds to sustain the fire.
And while the fire pit was stationary, the wolf wasn’t foolish enough to stay put indefinitely. Once it realized the flames weren’t an immediate threat, it would likely try to circle around and ambush them from another angle.
But with a torch in hand, she could at least wave it around to keep the wolf at bay.
Of course, she knew the torch wouldn’t last forever. But right now, she couldn’t afford to think that far ahead. Every second of delay was a victory.
As the torch slowly burned down, Qin Tianru’s fear crept back in. The small fire barrier had long since turned to ashes.
“Owooo—”
Suddenly, the wild wolf howled at the night sky, startling Qin Tianru so much that she nearly dropped her torch.
“Don’t come any closer~”
Qin Tianru’s pupils dilated, her hands trembling slightly. Even though she held a Swiss army knife in her left hand, it couldn’t suppress the fear in her heart.
She had never even killed a chicken in her life, let alone a ferocious wild wolf.
“Grr~”
The wolf suddenly bared its sharp fangs at Qin Tianru, its greenish eyes turning fierce and menacing.
Qin Tianru took two steps forward, positioning herself protectively in front of her future love interest. Her eyes turned red as she glared at the wolf, biting her lower lip tightly. Her entire body tensed into a defensive stance, ready to fight the wolf with all her might at any moment.
Just then, the wolf lowered its front legs slightly, assuming an attacking posture, then leaped over the small fire pit with only faint flames.
Qin Tianru instinctively held her breath and raised the Swiss army knife high.
Just as the wolf landed less than two meters away from her, the knife was suddenly snatched from her grasp. In the next instant, she saw a dark figure charging straight at the wolf!
