The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s
The Laid-Back Life of a Lucky Wife in the 1950s Chapter 9: Fighting the Wolf

It was her future partner!

When did he wake up? Was he okay now?

Before Qin Tianru could gather her thoughts, she saw the figures of the man and the wolf locked in combat.

The vicious wolf was no ordinary wild animal—it had a savage, ruthless nature ingrained in its bones. Not only was it relentless, but it was also cunning and intelligent.

Even though the man held a Swiss army knife, landing a blow on the wolf wasn’t easy. The two circled each other, each guarding while looking for an opening to attack, locked in a tense struggle.

The intensity of the fight made Qin Tianru’s heart race. This was practically a bare-handed brawl with a vicious wolf!

But the more critical the moment, the more she knew she couldn’t make a sound and distract him. So she suppressed her worry, pressing her lips tightly together, though her face and bright eyes were filled with visible concern.

The only thing she could do was hold the torch closer, providing some light for his vision.

“Ah!”

Qin Tianru couldn’t hold back a gasp as she saw the wolf swipe its claws at the man’s chest, tearing his shirt open in an instant.

She didn’t need to see to know his chest must have been clawed. Just imagining it made her wince—wolf claws were razor-sharp.

Earlier, to make it easier to apply medicine, she had removed his coat, leaving only his shirt. Since rolling up the shirt was more convenient, she hadn’t stripped him completely.

After tending to his wounds, she had simply draped both coats over him—after all, undressing an unconscious person was easy, but putting clothes back on was a hassle.

As a result, the man now wore only a thin shirt, offering no protection against the wolf’s claws.

Suddenly, the torch went out!

Panicked, Qin Tianru worried the man might lose sight of the wolf and get hit. She quickly turned and ran back to pick up the glowing night pearl from the ground.

Just as she turned, she caught sight of the wolf pouncing on the man, jaws wide open as it aimed for his neck. The man’s hands were braced against the wolf’s lower jaw, struggling to hold it back.

As for the Swiss army knife, it had somehow fallen to the ground during the fight, landing just out of reach near the man’s right hand.

In that critical moment, Qin Tianru’s reflexes moved faster than her thoughts. She hurled the night pearl straight at the wolf.

Fortunately, her aim was true—the pearl struck the wolf squarely on the head, making it yelp and stagger to the side.

Seizing the opportunity, the man swiftly grabbed the knife and stabbed it fiercely into the wolf’s belly.

“Yowl—”

Before the wolf could react, it collapsed to the ground.

But the man didn’t let his guard down. Pressing his advantage, he stabbed the wolf several more times until it stopped moving entirely.

Only then did the man slump to the ground, breathing heavily as if all strength had been drained from his body.

Even now, Qi Han’s mind was filled with confusion. His eyes were dazed as he took in his surroundings.

What was going on?

Why was he here?

How had he ended up in the middle of nowhere the moment he opened his eyes?

He still vividly remembered the suffocating sensation from moments ago—as if someone had been strangling him, stealing his breath as he teetered on the edge of death.
