The Last Warmth Chapter 12

Chapter 12 : Jiang Yunshu, She is My Wife Now

After finishing a two-hour online meeting with an overseas partner, Fu Chengze walked toward his office, instructing his assistant to cancel the social engagements for the evening.

“How’s the situation handled?”

Back in the office, Fu Chengze leaned back in his chair and rubbed his brow, asking about the gossip news that had broken just before his meeting.

“The PR department has issued a statement and a legal letter, and the news has been retracted. The situation is currently under control,” his assistant explained in detail, pausing briefly before adding, “However, the public pressure is still significant, and the matter hasn’t fully settled down.”

“When did you start speaking so circuitously?” Fu Chengze glanced up at him. “Get to the point.”

The assistant quickly added, “Someone leaked to the media that Madam is pregnant, and they’re saying you had an affair during the pregnancy. The public relations team wants Madam to issue a clarification statement, but since we haven’t gotten your approval yet, we haven’t contacted her.”

Fu Chengze frowned, falling silent for a moment.

Just then, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen and answered the call. On the other end, Fu Jingkun’s voice was filled with anger.

“Damn it! What kind of mess is this? Do you realize how much damage this could cause the company? Drop everything and get the PR department to fix this!”

Fu Chengze exhaled, but before he could respond, Fu Jingkun hung up.

For a few seconds, Fu Chengze almost felt grateful that his entire childhood had been without the shadow of Fu Jingkun and Xu Shuping.

When he stepped out of the group building, just as he was about to get into the car, he heard a door slam behind him.

“Fu Chengze!”

Hearing his name, Fu Chengze turned around and saw Gu Jingyan striding toward him.

Gu Jingyan immediately began questioning him, “What the hell is this gossip on the internet? You went to the airport in the middle of the night to meet some woman, what do you expect Yunshu to think?”

Fu Chengze found it amusing and coldly replied, “What position do you have to question me about this?”

Gu Jingyan, unable to stand Fu Chengze’s attitude, grabbed his collar and punched him in the face.

Fu Chengze didn’t dodge in time, and his head jerked to the side as his body slammed into the car door, causing the assistant to hurriedly call for security.

“Don’t!” Fu Chengze stopped his assistant and clenched his fist, returning a punch to Gu Jingyan.

“Jiang Yunshu, she’s my wife now.”

After saying this, Fu Chengze ignored Gu Jingyan, opened the back door of the car, and got in.

The assistant started the car and glanced at Fu Chengze in the rearview mirror.

“President Fu, you’re injured. Should we go to the hospital?”

“No need.” Fu Chengze’s face remained expressionless, his eyes dark as he replied, “Take me to the old house.”

“Understood.”

This was the first time the assistant had seen Fu Chengze act with such force. Especially when he mentioned his wife, there had been a hint of mocking anger in his gaze towards Gu Jingyan. The assistant didn’t dare speculate about the situation, so he drove a bit faster, saying nothing along the way.

Jiang Yunshu was carrying a cup of warm milk upstairs when she heard Xu Shuping’s voice from downstairs.

“Stop!”

Jiang Yunshu looked down the stairs and saw that Fu Chengze had returned.

“What do those photos online mean? Why were you at the airport in the middle of the night, picking up some woman? Do you know how many media outlets have been calling me, asking if it’s true that you’ve wronged Yunshu?”

Fu Chengze didn’t answer. He simply replied to her last question, “You don’t have to answer them.”

“What attitude is this? Do you realize how serious this is? You just took over, and now the old wolves in the company are starting to move, don’t think you’re so secure as the CEO of the Fu family!”

Fu Chengze sneered, “Do you think I’m willingly sitting in this position?”

Xu Shuping’s anger flared, and she raised her voice, “Fine! Sending you abroad to study was forcing you, having you take over the company was forcing you, telling you to marry Yunshu was forcing you, and even having a child was forced on you. Everyone’s been forcing you, are you happy now?”

After saying this, Xu Shuping stormed off.

Fu Chengze tugged at his tie, looked up, and caught Jiang Yunshu’s gaze as she stood on the second-floor landing.

They locked eyes for a few seconds, and he looked down, walking upstairs.

Jiang Yunshu immediately noticed the injury on his lip, her brow furrowing as she asked, “Who did you fight with?”

Fu Chengze’s emotions seemed to fade a little, and he answered vaguely, “Nothing.”

Jiang Yunshu didn’t press him further. “You go back to the room, I’ll go downstairs and get the first-aid kit.”

Fu Chengze reached out and grabbed her arm. “No need.”

She handed him the cup and made her way downstairs.

Aunt Luo found the first-aid kit and handed it to her, as Jiang Yunshu said, “Aunt Luo, you go talk with Mom. Just respond to whatever she says. Also, Grandma isn’t in the country, so she may not be aware of what’s going on. If she calls, just tell her it’s been resolved.”

Aunt Luo nodded, watching Jiang Yunshu’s retreating figure with approval.

Jiang Yunshu carried the first-aid kit upstairs, placed it on the table, and opened it while telling Fu Chengze, “Sit on the edge of the bed.”

Fu Chengze watched her for a moment before silently sitting down on the bed.

Jiang Yunshu picked up a cotton swab with iodine, gently lifted his chin, and carefully applied it to the cut at the corner of his mouth.

“I’ll be as gentle as I can.”

When she touched the wound, Fu Chengze frowned slightly, and she asked, “Does it hurt?”

Fu Chengze looked at her focused expression and softly said, “No.”

Jiang Yunshu finished treating the wound, throwing the used cotton swab in the trash.

Fu Chengze watched as she packed the iodine and swabs back into the first-aid kit. He called her name, “Yunshu.”

Jiang Yunshu turned around. “What is it?”

Fu Chengze looked at her calmly, finally speaking, “Don’t you have any questions for me?”

“I have two,” she closed the kit. “The first is, are the rumors true?”

Fu Chengze replied, “No.”

“Mm, I believe you,” she said casually, then asked, “Who did you fight with?”

Fu Chengze remained silent.

Jiang Yunshu guessed, “Gu Jingyan?”

Fu Chengze didn’t answer.

Jiang Yunshu sighed. “Okay, I understand. I’ll apologize to you on his behalf first.”

Fu Chengze frowned, clearly displeased. Just as he was about to speak, they heard a knock at the door.
