Chapter 13 : Trust
Jiang Yunshu walked over and opened the door.
Aunt Luo: “Xiao Shu, Mr. Fu wants Chengze to go to his study.”
Jiang Yunshu responded with a simple “Okay,” handed the medicine box to Aunt Luo, and turned back to tell Fu Chengze, “Dad wants you to go to his study.”
Fu Chengze slowly shifted his gaze from her and stood up, walking downstairs.
Jiang Yunshu picked up her phone and dialed Fu Chengze’s assistant.
“Have the PR department draft a clarification statement for me, the sooner the better.”
“Madam, actually, the PR department has already prepared it, but we’re still waiting for Mr. Fu’s instructions.”
Jiang Yunshu noticed hesitation in the assistant’s voice, “Just send it to me directly, I will talk to Chengze about it.”
The assistant replied, “Understood, Madam, I will send it to you right away.”
Jiang Yunshu posted the clarification statement from her official account, and it quickly trended on social media.
She briefly skimmed the comments, many people accusing her of compromising herself.
Exiting the social media app, a video call from Li Ran Yi came in.
“Yunshu, what’s going on? Did you post the statement yourself?”
Jiang Yunshu replied, “The situation is almost resolved, there’s nothing to worry about.”
“No, but who exactly was your husband picking up at the airport? Have you figured it out?”
“Ran Yi, it really isn’t necessary,” Jiang Yunshu said.
“Previously, Chengze was involved in some gossip. He attended a social event where a new actress, who had just started her career, was arranged by a partner. The girl had improper intentions and was looking to take shortcuts. A reporter maliciously took some photos from a misleading angle, causing a scandal. Thankfully, a video later showed that Chengze had scolded the girl when she tried to get close by pouring him a drink.
I trust his character, he is absolutely not the type to cheat during marriage. Besides, trust and suspicion destroy a marriage more easily than anything else. A good marriage is often ruined by questions based on suspicion.
Don’t let public opinion sway you. Believe only what he tells you. What is true and what is false isn’t determined by who shouts the loudest, time will prove it.”
“You’re right, but…”
Li Ran Yi hesitated, then said, “What if, just what if the person your husband picked up was his ex-girlfriend?”
Jiang Yunshu was silent for a few seconds and then responded,
“Chengze is a man of discretion. Since they broke up, he wouldn’t stay involved with his ex. Moreover, in the photos that were exposed, they were keeping a proper distance. The trending news doesn’t even have enough heat to become a full-blown scandal. There must be someone with ulterior motives controlling this behind the scenes.”
Li Ran Yi nodded, “I don’t care about the rest, as long as you haven’t been betrayed. If your husband dares to hurt you, I’ll be the first to confront Gu Jingyan and tear him apart!”
“Did you already know Gu Jingyan went to see Chengze?” Jiang Yunshu asked.
“I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to make things more complicated,” Li Ran Yi stammered, before swearing angrily, “Yunshu, who leaked the news about your pregnancy? They’re obviously trying to blow things out of proportion and ruin your husband’s reputation.”
Few people knew about her pregnancy, so Jiang Yunshu had a guess about who might be responsible.
“It doesn’t matter, it’s not something that can’t be made public. I have some things to take care of here, but call Jingyan and clarify this with him.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Jiang Yunshu went downstairs to make a cup of ginseng tea and took it to Fu Jingkun’s study.
Inside, Fu Jingkun’s scolding voice was loud enough for her to hear even from the doorway.
“Someone contacted you before to discuss buying the rights to these photos, is that true?”
“Yes.”
“How could you be so unflexible? Before signing the contract, anything could happen. You represent the entire group, and leaking this news seriously damages the company’s credibility. Don’t think just because you’ve made some achievements in the past, you can do whatever you want!”
“What else? Should I be like you?” Fu Chengze’s voice was cold, “You were so afraid of damaging your career that you bought the rights to the photos of you and Mom. After you married Mom, those photos, which you had bought, were exposed, making it seem like you were cheating and that Mom was the third party who ruined someone’s family?”
Fu Jingkun lost his temper, “You’ve gone too far! Don’t think just because your grandfather is gone, no one can control you!”
Fu Chengze sneered, “Speaking of Grandpa, it reminds me, no wonder Grandpa always said you have the ability but no guts.”
Jiang Yunshu heard a cup shatter from inside the room and quickly knocked on the door.
Before she received an answer, she pushed open the door and entered, “Dad, I made you some ginseng tea.”
Fu Jingkun’s expression darkened, but in front of his pregnant daughter-in-law, he managed to suppress his anger.
Jiang Yunshu placed the tea on the desk and noticed broken cup pieces on the floor, and Fu Chengze’s shirt was soaked with tea.
“You’re about to become a father. You should act more prudently. It’s better not to meet with irrelevant people and avoid spreading messy rumors,” Fu Jingkun said, waving his hand, signaling them to leave.
After closing the bedroom door, Fu Chengze removed his tea-soaked shirt.
Jiang Yunshu walked over, noticing the redness on his chest, and asked, “Was the tea hot?”
Fu Chengze’s gaze darkened, his voice hoarse, “It’s fine.”
Jiang Yunshu didn’t say anything more, urging him to take a shower.
Later that night, a thunderstorm suddenly began. The loud thunder woke Jiang Yunshu.
Since her mother passed away, she had become terrified of such stormy nights, instinctively curling up in search of safety.
She tried to distract herself, but she couldn’t help but recall Xu Shuping’s words “Having you marry Xiao Shu was forcing you, and even the child was forced upon you.”
That reminded her of when they were in Yunjiang, and under Grandpa Fu’s subtle matchmaking, Fu Chengze had casually proposed marriage.
She understood that Fu Chengze didn’t love her that much, but she always wanted to believe that he liked her, even if only a little.
It wasn’t entirely forced. After all, it was him who had proposed the marriage, and his kindness toward her couldn’t just be an act.
But it seemed like he had indeed been somewhat forced to accept the fact that they were expecting a child…
While she was lost in thought, she suddenly heard Fu Chengze’s voice, slightly nasal, from the side of the bed, “Did I wake you?”
Jiang Yunshu snapped back to reality, “Yes.”
In the dim light, Fu Chengze noticed that Jiang Yunshu had curled up and asked, “Are you cold?”
“No,” she replied.
Fu Chengze seemed to remember her earlier reaction and guessed, “Are you afraid of the thunder?”
Jiang Yunshu softly agreed.
The next moment, he pressed himself against her, pulling her into his arms.
Through the thin fabric of her nightgown, Jiang Yunshu could clearly feel the heat from his chest. The warmth spread to her, wrapped in his unique scent, gradually enveloping her.
This position was incredibly intimate.
In the year since they had married, except for brief moments of closeness after intimacy, they had never embraced like this.
This intimacy suddenly made her feel enlightened, no longer focusing on the gains and losses between them.
If it were anyone else, she would never have agreed to a hasty marriage. But this was Fu Chengze, the one who made her heart race and with whom she was willing to spend the rest of her life.
They had only been married for a year, with many more years to come, and they would become the closest people to each other.
Fu Chengze’s voice, almost a whisper, came from beside her ear, “Go to sleep.”
“Mm.”
Jiang Yunshu responded, feeling like she was wrapped in a warm fortress. She closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.
