Chapter 24
Thanks to the “good news” Yue Yin brought, Captain Li, who had initially remained somewhat calm, could no longer relax.
After learning that two malevolent entities were now on the loose in City A, Captain Li clutched his chest, letting out a deep sigh. Without even taking the time to ask Yue Yin for more details about the entities, he hurriedly left with Xiaojun and the others.
As they rushed out, they frantically pulled out their phones to notify the entire team for an emergency shift, launching a large-scale search for the dangers. Meanwhile, Captain Li had to report to his superiors and request backup, fearing that the appearance of these two entities might incite widespread panic among the public.
Yue Yin, hands in her pockets, calmly watched them hasten away, a genuine smile spreading across her face.
“Great! It’s not fair if I’m the only one stuck in school while they’re off having all the fun!”
Since these people had ruined her chances of getting a break, why not let them work overtime too?
Of course, Yue Yin understood the danger of an A-grade malicious entity on the run. She intentionally informed Captain Li so they would hurry back and dive into their 24/7 work shifts.
After all, why suffer alone when everyone could share in the misery?
With a sweet smile, Yue Yin turned around unhurriedly and made her way back to class once Captain Li and his team were gone.
The moment she turned, the cheerful expression vanished from her face.
School. School. She had no idea why she even bothered with this stupid place.
Not to mention, being late meant writing a self-reflection report. One day, she’d blow the whole school up!
Expressionless, Yue Yin slowly made her way back to the classroom.
After being delayed for so long, Jiang Suliu had already returned from the office by the time she got back.
“I just saw Captain Li and his team looking for you outside. Was it related to the malevolent entity in the school?” Jiang Suliu asked curtly.
He had been absent from school the previous day, but seeing the news and Captain Li this morning, he figured it must be connected to the entity.
Yue Yin sat down and started writing her self-reflection. “Yeah, they came to ask about it, hoping to deal with it in the school, but unfortunately, it’s already escaped.”
An A-grade malevolent entity that had slipped into human society while injured would stop at nothing to devour flesh to heal itself. One could only imagine the horrors it would unleash.
In short, City A was now incredibly dangerous, and it was no wonder Captain Li and his team were in such a rush.
Jiang Suliu, realizing the severity of the situation, furrowed his brow. “That escaped entity—it’s dangerous?”
Yue Yin continued writing her self-reflection as she answered, “Yeah. It was newly born, but it can already create its own domain, hunting humans in the fog.”
In Yue Yin’s opinion, that metal dice was probably even stronger than the A-grade forbidden item that had already been sealed—the snake with a human head.
After all, the metal dice had limitless potential. It could hunt by creating a foggy domain, and right after its birth, it had already turned the school into its hunting ground, covering it with fog.
As it matured, it might even envelop the entire city in fog, turning it into a massive feeding ground.
The scariest part? The metal dice was smart.
The moment it was born, it could tell who it should and shouldn’t provoke. When Yue Yin had spent half a day toying with it, trying to study its expressions, the metal die had obediently played along.
Was it because it had a good temper and didn’t dare to fight back? Absolutely not.
It simply knew that Yue Yin was not someone it could mess with. After assessing their respective strengths, it wisely chose to lay low. The forbidden item B87, on the other hand, wasn’t very bright, which was why it met such a swift demise.
Yue Yin casually explained all this, not concerned in the slightest about the metal dice’s escape.
Turning back, she noticed Jiang Suliu’s worried expression and reassured him, “Don’t worry, even if it does start eating people, it won’t dare to touch you.”
Jiang Suliu frowned. “Why?”
He wasn’t even an ability user, just an ordinary person. Even if he hired ability users as bodyguards, against an A-grade entity, they’d all just be extra cannon fodder.
Yue Yin looked up confidently. “Because you’re a believer of the great Thousand-Faced Moon. They wouldn’t dare provoke you.”
Jiang Suliu’s heavy heart lightened, and he couldn’t help but smile. “Of course.”
After a moment of thought, he asked curiously, “But other ability users also believe in true gods, so why?”
All ability users were chosen by gods. If simply believing in a god could guarantee safety, then no ability users would ever be harmed by malicious entities.
Yue Yin gave him an exasperated look. “How could that be the same?”
“Those gods have tons of followers. They’re too busy to even listen to all their prayers. But you? I’ve only got one follower—you. You’re a VVIP, super special treatment, you know?”
Though Yue Yin constantly exploited Jiang Suliu, leaving all the responsibilities of the Moon Cult to him, there was a balance of fortune and misfortune in it.
Jiang Suliu hadn’t expected this answer, and after a brief moment of surprise, he couldn’t help but lower his head and chuckle.
As his eyes fell, a sweetness filled his heart, though a deeper emotion clouded his gaze.
Such happiness—he truly wished to keep this feeling forever, being her one and only believer…
Yue Yin, however, didn’t notice the change in Jiang Suliu’s expression as he lowered his head. She was too preoccupied with the self-reflection report in front of her.
Writing self-reflection reports was so difficult! Why did they have to go through plagiarism checks, and why did they need to be over 800 words? This was basically a full-on exam essay!
Growing more frustrated with each word, Yue Yin finally decided to hand over this daunting task to her sole follower.
She passed the half-written report to Jiang Suliu, her expression solemn. “Jiang Suliu, as my future High Priest and my current one and only follower, I have an important mission for you…”
Jiang Suliu: …
Before she even finished speaking, Jiang Suliu skillfully took the report and began writing without hesitation.
Watching him diligently write her self-reflection, Yue Yin was thoroughly satisfied, thinking she had chosen her follower with perfect judgment.
With confidence, she offered him a grand promise, “Jiang Suliu, once I return to the Void Universe, I’ll appoint you as my High Priest in this region. Is there any reward you want?”
She turned to the young man beside her, attempting to entice him further. “Do you desire endless wealth? A brilliant mind? Do you long for immortality? I can grant you unlimited power!”
Jiang Suliu, who was calmly helping her write the report, couldn’t help but laugh when he heard this. He found Yue Yin adorably naïve.
The Jiang family was already one of the top wealthy families, how could he possibly lack money? His intelligence seemed sufficient for now, and though those rewards might appeal to ordinary people, they held no allure for him.
As for immortality, he always believed that living a full life was enough.
So, all of Yue Yin’s offered rewards meant nothing to him.
The only thing he truly wanted was the god herself.
But that was an utterly forbidden wish, even thinking of it would be blasphemous.
Jiang Suliu’s smile faded, and he lowered his eyes again, casually continuing to write. His pen moved smoothly across the paper.
Just then, an unexpected voice broke the silence. “Yue Yin, you and Jiang Suliu seem really close.”
They both turned to see that it was Li Shushu.
Li Shushu waved at Yue Yin, cautiously asking, “Yue Yin, why didn’t you come to class today?”
Yue Yin had been in a decent mood until Li Shushu brought up the one topic that dampened her spirits. Thinking about the few days of vacation she had lost, and how she had been forced to wake up at 7 a.m. for class, her mood instantly darkened.
She stared at Li Shushu, deliberately vague in her reply: “Because I ran into some things last night.”
Li Shushu immediately connected this to the forbidden item B87 she had placed in Yue Yin’s drawer.
Upon hearing Yue Yin’s answer, an uncontrollable excitement flickered in Li Shushu’s eyes.
She had found it—found her.
It had to be her.
As expected, no one could survive a sacrifice… unless the ritual succeeded.
Suppressing her excitement, Li Shushu tried to maintain a calm tone. “Saturday is my birthday. Will you come to my party?”
It was odd. Li Shushu had been in the class for half a year, and she had barely spoken to Yue Yin before. They weren’t close at all. Yet now, she was suddenly inviting Yue Yin to her birthday party.
Sensing something unusual, Jiang Suliu paused his writing and looked up at Li Shushu with a calm, assessing gaze.
Yue Yin, on the other hand, maintained her usual cheery demeanor, seemingly oblivious to any strangeness. Her eyes curved in a smile as she said, “Sure!”
Li Shushu hadn’t expected Yue Yin to agree so easily. Surprised, she asked excitedly, “You’ll come?” Yesterday, Yue Yin’s gaze had made her think that Yue Yin might have discovered something. Since the two of them weren’t close, Li Shushu had worried that Yue Yin might refuse her invitation.
Though she had other ways to handle it, that would have been much more complicated.
But this was the best outcome. Yue Yin had agreed to attend the party, where she would become the vessel for the master during the ritual…
Thinking of the nearing sacrifice, Li Shushu’s expression became one of barely contained excitement, her eyes gleaming.
She clenched her fingers and said with a loaded smile, “I’m glad you’re coming. We’ll have a lot of fun that day.”
“Yeah,” Yue Yin smiled sweetly at her, replying in a soft voice, “We’ll definitely have a lot of fun.”
