In Gu Beilu’s opinion, although Cheng Liang made him very unhappy, he was not completely unhelpful.
Yu Xi’s birthday is coming up soon, and he has been thinking about what gift to give him. He has never attended a birthday party, let alone prepared a birthday gift.
This was Yu Xi’s first birthday after he met him, so he had to give him a good gift. He heard that the Yu family had invited many children, and as Yu Xi’s best friend and neighbor, he had to give him the gift he liked best.
He thought about it for a month, and during that month he was even less willing to talk to others than before, until he found out that Yu Xi liked cars.
Cheng Liang’s two broken toy cars have made Yu Xi happy for so many days, so he should give him a better one, a thousand times or ten thousand times better.
On Sunday morning, Gu Beilu rarely arranged any classes for himself, but waited in the living room for the high-end toy salesman who came by appointment.
At nine o’clock sharp, the high-end toy sales showed up on time, bringing with them a dozen of the latest models of children’s sports cars.
“Master Gu, look, this is the new model we selected for you based on your requirements.” The salesperson and the assistant filled the Gu family’s living room with the children’s sports cars they brought, like a mini luxury car show.
Gu Beilu jumped off the sofa and looked around at more than a dozen cars, first ruling out single-seater cars without a passenger seat.
He was not happy. He felt that Yu Xi’s car had to be a two-seater, otherwise how would he sit?
In the end, he chose a blue supercar and specially customized a small shark interior.
Gu Beilu inspected the car expertly and asked seriously, “Has anyone in this community ordered a car from you recently?”
The toy salesman was sweating: “No, no, and this is a limited edition. There is only one in the whole city.”
The car was bought, but Gu Beilu was far from satisfied, and he wanted to modify it himself.
In the next few days, he spent his programming class doing one thing: writing intelligent programs for the car. He wanted to install a voice assistant in the car that could only recognize Yu Xi and his voices.
That day he was writing programs in the IT club and was concentrating on his work when he was suddenly interrupted by a voice behind him.
“Not bad, do you want to make a voice system?”
Gu Beilu closed the computer with a bang, turned around and saw Cheng Liang’s smug expression, which made him furious.
“Didn’t your parents teach you not to peek into other people’s things?” Gu Beilu felt that this person was really rude. It turned out that the people on the blacklist were not good people.
Cheng Liang smiled and pulled a chair to sit next to him: “I didn’t peek, you were just too engrossed, you didn’t even hear me knocking on the door.”
Seeing his playful smile, Gu Beilu became even angrier: “What are you going to do?”
Cheng Liang put a registration form in front of him: “We are going to form a team to participate in the national elementary school programming competition, and you are included.”
The gold medal of this competition is the highest honor for all programming students, and Gu Beilu is no exception. However, although his level is fully qualified to participate, most of the groups participating are senior students, and he is used to being alone and is too lazy to recruit others to form a group.
Cheng Liang looked at his puzzled expression and said confidently, “Don’t worry, I told the teacher, he has applied to the organizer, and students from lower grades can join our team, as long as you don’t hold us back.”
The last time he noticed Gu Beilu, he went to see many of Gu Beilu’s works.
God! And found this is a genius.
Gu Beilu sneered: “It’s still unclear who will hold back who.”
Cheng Liang waited until he agreed, and took out a schedule and gave it to him: “This is our group time, remember to be on time.”
Gu Beilu glanced at it and said, “Not this Saturday. I’m celebrating Yu Xi’s birthday this Saturday.”
“Baby Shark’s birthday?”
Gu Beilu was alert for a second: “He didn’t invite you.”
“I don’t want to attend your little brat’s birthday party.” Cheng Liang tapped on the schedule again, “Then I’ll give you a day off this Saturday.”
Before leaving, he turned around and said, “Wish Little Shark a happy birthday for me.”
Gu Beilu did not answer. After the door was closed, he muttered to himself, “That’s strange.”
*
When Yu Xi heard that his parents said that this Saturday was his birthday, and they were going to hold a theme birthday party for him, he was so happy.
It was also his first birthday party. He had only seen it in picture books before. He only knew that there would be many good friends together, sharing delicious food and fun things, but he had never experienced it. He started looking forward to it since Monday, counting on his fingers.
When he woke up early on Saturday morning, he rushed to the living room barefoot. When he saw the underwater world theme decoration, he couldn’t help but exclaimed, “It’s so beautiful!”
Yu’s mother picked up her barefoot son, gave him a big kiss on the cheek, and said, “Happy birthday, baby.”
Yu Xi kissed his back sweetly and deeply, and said without thinking, “Happy birthday to you too, Mommy.”
Yu’s mother was amused. She hooked his nose and said as she put his shoes on him, “That’s right, it was the day I gave birth to my baby.”
The first one to arrive was Gu Beilu. Yu Xi had just finished breakfast when he arrived. He could have arrived earlier, but when he was leaving, the housekeeper reminded him that he shouldn’t wear a white shirt to a birthday party. It took him half an hour to find a suitable T-shirt.
Shen Di and Zhao Yu agreed to come together, and they arrived half an hour earlier than originally scheduled. Gu Beilu heard the doorbell and volunteered to open the door. When he saw that it was Shen Di, his face darkened again.
“It’s not time yet, what are you doing here so early?”
Shen Di was also surprised that it was Gu Beilu who opened the door: “Why are you here so early?”
Gu Beilu let them in reluctantly. He became even more unhappy when he thought that there would be more people coming soon.
While the adults were still preparing snacks, Yu’s mother asked Yu Xi to take the three children who had arrived early to the children’s study to play.
They said Yu Xi would lead the way, but in the end Gu Beilu walked the fastest, holding Yu Xi’s hand, with two followers following behind him.
“This is my little study. Feel free to take any book you want to read.” Yu Xi brought them into the study and brought them cute little stools.
“Wow, Yu Xi, you have so many books! Are there any comics about palace fighting dramas?” Shen Di sighed, holding his glasses.
“No.” Gu Beilu knew all the books in Yu Xi’s study by heart, “Something useful to read.”
“Is there Peppa Pig?” Zhao Yu asked.
“The first one in the third row on the left.” Gu Beilu said.
Shen Di rolled his eyes at him: “You seem very familiar with it.”
Gu Beilu thought to himself, the order was the one he arranged last time, how could he not know?
After all the children were present, the clown came to perform. The clown performed several amazing magic tricks. It was the first time Yu Xi had seen such a performance, and he was so surprised that he forgot to clap.
He couldn’t help but exclaim, “How amazing! How did he do that? Is he a god?”
Shen Di turned around and told him: “What gods? These are all fake tricks! I’ve seen them all, they’re fake, all fake.”
Yu Xi was even more surprised. How could the little white rabbit turning into a small flower be fake?
The clown said that his last magic trick could be to make a child disappear, and asked the child if he wanted to try it.
Gu Beilu silently pushed Shen Di up.
