Chapter 18: Gossip
Mu Bai and Wang Li were surrounded by their teammates, who were eagerly asking about the gossip surrounding Leng Mohan.
They curiously investigated whether the woman he brought back was truly Leng Mohan’s wife. This transformation was unbelievable to them. In their minds, Leng Mohan was an insurmountable iceberg, always steadfast on the battlefield, silently dedicating himself to the country.
They had privately bet that Leng Mohan would remain single for life, wholeheartedly devoted to the army.
However, this icy figure unexpectedly brought back a wife, a change that shocked them greatly. The teammates chatted incessantly, their curiosity driving them to relentlessly question Mu Bai and Wang Li.
Mu Bai and Wang Li were overwhelmed, but they understood their teammates’ feelings; the change was indeed too sudden.
“Instructor, Deputy Battalion Commander, have you seen the person our Battalion Commander brought back? Is she really his wife? Also, I heard our sister-in-law is incredibly beautiful, even surpassing Zhou Wenwen from the art troupe. Is that true?”
A group of soldiers crowded around them, desperately wanting answers.
“Why do you have so much free time? Don’t you have training? You’re quite bold, daring to gossip about the Battalion Commander. Aren’t you afraid he’ll deal with you when he returns?” Mu Bai jokingly reprimanded them.
“No, Instructor, we’re actually concerned about our Battalion Commander’s future life, about his lifelong happiness.” Hearing this, everyone panicked, for if the Battalion Commander knew they were gossiping about his private life, the consequences would be unimaginable. However, despite their fear, they couldn’t resist their curiosity and wanted to ask more.
Wang Li saw the opportunity. Training was about to begin. He said to everyone, “Alright, it’s confirmed. She is indeed the wife brought back by Mohan. Although we don’t know the details, it’s true. They’ve obtained their marriage certificate. As long as the approval process goes smoothly, they’ll officially become husband and wife soon.”
“Furthermore, the rumors about Mohan and Zhou Wenwen are entirely Zhou Wenwen’s one-sided feelings, unrelated to your Battalion Commander. Remember, don’t casually gossip, otherwise, if Mohan finds trouble with you, don’t blame me for not warning you.” Wang Li solemnly warned them, ensuring the correct information spread.
The soldiers gasped in shock. Someone couldn’t help but ask, “Deputy Battalion Commander, did our Battalion Commander say this himself? Is our sister-in-law really more beautiful than Zhou Wenwen? Otherwise, why would the Battalion Commander choose her?”
“You know, Zhou Wenwen is the acknowledged most beautiful female soldier in our army, and she’s the daughter of the Second Battalion Commander. The Battalion Commander actually didn’t choose her, but instead married his current wife. If she’s not stunningly beautiful, it’s hard to understand.”
“Yes, yes, we need a chance to see our sister-in-law’s beauty.” The soldiers echoed, their curiosity completely ignited.
Luo Jiaojiao’s face appeared in Wang Li’s mind; her beauty was undoubtedly extraordinary.
Her beauty, if placed in ancient times, would probably be enough to topple the world, a peerless beauty capable of plunging a nation into chaos.
“What are you arguing about? Your sister-in-law is indeed more beautiful than Zhou Wenwen. You will have a chance to see it with your own eyes in the future. Now, you should go to training immediately. Can’t I call you back? Do we need to call Mo Han back in advance to train you?” Wang Li looked at them seriously and said.
Hearing that training would resume, the soldiers immediately shook their heads and quickly lined up. They didn’t want to anger the Battalion Commander at this time; after all, he had just married and brought his wife to the army, and he might be busy allocating housing and settling in.
How could they disturb the Battalion Commander and his wife at this time? If they really called the Battalion Commander back, wouldn’t that be suicidal?
Mu Bai noticed that as soon as they heard the news of Mohan’s imminent return, they became unusually obedient, like gentle rabbits. Only Mohan could make them so submissive.
He looked at them and said gently, “Alright, go to training. Your Battalion Commander’s housing application should be approved tomorrow. After training, go help him settle in, and you’ll naturally see what your sister-in-law looks like.”
Hearing this good news, everyone was very happy and said that if they had no other tasks after training, they would go to help.
“From today onwards, the workload will double. Considering your Battalion Commander’s absence these past few days, the training tasks have been halved as you wished. Now, it’s time to get back on track. Otherwise, once he returns and checks your training progress and finds it substandard, don’t expect me to plead for you.” Wang Li looked at the soldiers with a serious and firm gaze, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
When the soldiers heard that the tasks would double, their faces showed bitter expressions.
However, they also knew that the few days of relaxation had been enough. If the Battalion Commander returned and found their training progress lagging, then even more rigorous devil training would await them.
Thus, they answered in unison, “Yes!” Their voices were low but full of determination and perseverance.
“Only Mohan’s prestige can control these strong-willed soldiers.” Wang Li looked at the soldiers wholeheartedly engaged in training, then at Mu Bai standing beside him, and sighed.
“Indeed, not only them, but even I admire Mohan immensely, with respect and awe.” Mu Bai took off his military jacket, preparing to join the training.
Wang Li nodded in agreement. Leng Mohan’s determination to sacrifice himself on the battlefield, solely to complete his mission, was unmatched. Now that he had a beautiful wife, Wang Li only hoped he would take care of his own safety.
Mu Bai challenged Wang Li, “Come, let’s have a match, see if we’ve made any new breakthroughs in our skills.”
Wang Li’s eyes flashed with excitement. “That’s exactly what I had in mind. Let’s go to the fighting arena.”
The two immediately went to the fighting arena, their figures intertwined in fierce combat.
While they were fiercely engaged in battle, Leng Mohan was quietly hanging clothes nearby, seemingly isolated from the world.
Luo Jiaojiao noticed this. After washing her hands, she walked over and softly said, “Brother Leng, let me help you. I’m good at this; I used to help my aunt hang clothes.”
Her eyes were full of enthusiasm, hoping to share some of Leng Mohan’s chores.
Leng Mohan looked at her expectant eyes and couldn’t bear to refuse. He nodded slightly, agreeing to her request.
“Alright, help me hang the clothes on the rack, pass them to me, and I’ll hang them on the clothes rack outside the window. The sun is just right now; you should have dry clothes to change into tonight.” Leng Mohan handed her the rack, his voice revealing a hint of tenderness.
Luo Jiaojiao’s face lit up with a happy smile at being able to help. She quickly hung the clothes on the rack and carefully handed them to Leng Mohan.
“Like a child,” Leng Mohan looked at her, a slight doting smile curving his lips.
