Chapter 25: The Watch
“Since you really don’t need a watch, then we won’t buy one.” Leng Mohan looked at her, his tone brooking no argument. “I’ll have someone buy you clothes and skincare products.”
Luo Jiaojiao nodded slightly, a subtle smile playing on her lips.
She found the allure of clothes and skincare products difficult, and unwilling, to resist. She knew her beauty was the reason Leng Mohan was pleased with her, although parental kindness was as heavy as a mountain, he had many ways to repay that kindness, not necessarily by marrying her.
However, his kindness towards her was clearly genuine, and he genuinely intended to spend the rest of his life with her.
Luo Jiaojiao wasn’t a fool; she understood this. Her beauty was the main reason for his favor, but she also knew that true happiness wasn’t solely built on appearance.
Luo Jiaojiao was a petite yet full-figured girl, her chubby cheeks giving her a blessed appearance.
Her almond-shaped eyes were bright and captivating, possessing an invisible charm that could capture everyone’s gaze.
Her figure was also impeccable, with a curvaceous silhouette and fair, delicate skin, free from any blemishes.
It was evident that, besides natural advantages, the Luo family had also invested considerable effort, all for greater returns.
Luo Jiaojiao’s marriage into a wealthy family and her husband’s affection gave the Luo family ample confidence when making demands. However, now all these benefits belonged to Leng Mohan.
Luo Jiaojiao noticed Leng Mohan had left and followed suit.
When her gaze fell on the underwear drying on a clothes rack by the window, a shy blush crept onto her face. She slowly approached the clothes, gently touching them to confirm they were dry. Then, she carefully collected them and neatly put them away in the closet.
Luo Jiaojiao’s inner self wasn’t as flamboyant and charming as her outward appearance. On the contrary, she was simple and timid, making it difficult for her to remain composed in such situations. Even though Leng Mohan could act so naturally, she couldn’t.
Her current relationship with Leng Mohan was on the verge of testing. If he was kind to her, she would slowly approach him; if not, she would retreat and become invisible. Leaving wasn’t an option unless Leng Mohan truly didn’t want to be with her, unless he divorced her and didn’t allow her to stay.
Luo Jiaojiao couldn’t imagine living independently. She knew her worth and that in this world, her only reliance was her beautiful face.
For now, Leng Mohan seemed quite satisfied with her appearance, which brought her great comfort. So, she resolved to do her best during this period to gain Leng Mohan’s genuine acceptance, even if that acceptance stemmed solely from her looks.
Luo Jiaojiao patted her rosy cheeks, encouraging herself. She believed that with effort, she could win Leng Mohan’s affection.
However, when Luo Jiaojiao started thinking about how to contribute to Leng Mohan, she realized she didn’t have much she could do.
She still needed to learn household chores like washing and cooking, and gifts required money, which she didn’t have. This dampened her initial enthusiasm.
She suddenly realized that besides her appearance, she didn’t seem to have much to attract Leng Mohan. But Luo Jiaojiao didn’t get discouraged.
After pondering for a long time, a bright idea struck her: she could make clothes for Leng Mohan.
When she thought of Leng Mohan as a soldier, her mouth twitched. He probably wouldn’t have many opportunities to wear the clothes she made. The only exception might be underwear, which he wore every day.
So, Luo Jiaojiao decided to make a set of clothes for Leng Mohan and prepare several pairs of underwear. As for the rest, it would depend on Leng Mohan’s needs. She secretly hoped she still possessed the ability to sew clothes.
Although she hadn’t followed Luo Jia Hui’s advice and married into a wealthy family as she’d previously imagined, simply relying on pleasing her husband,
However, no matter whom she married, one truth remained unchanged: pleasing her husband. After all, only by truly winning his heart could she live a more fulfilling life. This was an unchanging truth since ancient times; a husband’s love was a woman’s greatest support.
Luo Jiaojiao knew that to gain a foothold here, she had to make Leng Mohan satisfied with her.
After all, she currently relied solely on him. She held their marriage certificate, and all the approval procedures were finalized. As long as she was cautious and didn’t offend him, Leng Mohan, considering his personal career, wouldn’t easily part ways with her.
Even if time etched lines on her face and Leng Mohan lost his former passion for her, she still believed they could maintain a superficial harmony.
However, deep down, Luo Jiaojiao harbored a more fervent wish—to have a child in two years. She believed that having a child as a bond would solidify her position in this relationship and secure her future.
Leng Mohan walked steadily, carrying two lunch boxes, directly towards the mess hall kitchen. His gaze swept across the crowd, finally settling on the busy Li Yun.
Li Yun saw Leng Mohan and a delighted smile spread across his face. He shook the water droplets from his hands, wiping them casually on his apron, before approaching. “Commander Leng, why are you here in person?” Li Yun greeted him enthusiastically.
Leng Mohan nodded, handing over the lunch boxes. “I came to ask you to heat up two dishes. Also, do you have enough money lately? Can you repay the money I lent you before?”
Li Yun took the lunch boxes, his smile even brighter. “Enough, Commander Leng, don’t worry, I’ll heat the dishes for you right away. As for the money, I’ve saved enough to repay you. Thank you so much for what you did before. If it weren’t for you, my brother wouldn’t have survived. I’ll go home and get the money after work.” Li Yun said gratefully.
Time rewound to two years ago, when Li Yun was just a new recruit in the army, with a meager salary and a difficult life.
At that critical moment, his younger brother suddenly fell seriously ill. The town hospital was helpless and suggested sending him to a large hospital in the county. However, the subsequent medical expenses were like a heavy mountain, crushing Li Yun.
Li Yun had raised his younger brother, and their bond was incredibly strong. Li Yun knew he couldn’t give up, couldn’t watch his brother struggle in pain.
So, he sought help from his relatives and friends, but they were all as financially strapped as he was, able to lend him only a little. Despite this, they did what they could, lending him all the money they could spare.
