Chapter 35 Vegetables
He cleared a path as he spoke, “Jiaojiao, though this yard has a lot of weeds, it’s not a big problem. Tomorrow, I’ll find someone to clear them all out and restore the yard to its original state. Then, we can plant some vegetables here. If you like flowers, I’ll accompany you to buy some seeds so you can plant them here. What do you think?”
A picture of the flower sea in front of Luo Jiahui’s house, planted by Luo Jiaojiao herself, appeared in Leng Mohan’s mind.
Those colorful flowers, vibrant and dewy, were like Luo Jiaojiao’s lively and spirited personality. He guessed that Luo Jiaojiao would also love to plant flowers in her own yard.
Hearing this, Luo Jiaojiao’s eyes sparkled brightly, as if she saw herself holding flower seeds, carefully sowing seeds of hope.
She looked at Leng Mohan in disbelief and softly asked, “I… can I really plant flowers in the yard?”
Seeing her excitement, Leng Mohan felt a warmth in his heart, knowing that she truly loved gardening.
He smiled and nodded, softly saying, “Of course you can, but remember not to plant too many, otherwise the neighbors might gossip. However, you can plant more vegetables, so we won’t worry about getting tired of eating the same greens.”
Leng Mohan gazed at the yard and said calmly, “Luo Jiaojiao, half of the yard is enough for the flowers you want to plant.”
His gaze turned to her, a hint of depth in his eyes. He wasn’t afraid of gossip from the outside world, but he had to consider Luo Jiaojiao’s feelings. He knew that once she heard those rumors outside, she might become suspicious.
Half the yard would be used for flowers, and the other half for vegetables. This way, those who wanted to gossip would also hesitate and dare not be too presumptuous. And if anyone dared to criticize, he would have a legitimate excuse to settle the score with them.
Luo Jiaojiao was surprised by his suggestion. She didn’t expect him to give her so much space to plant her beloved flowers. This generosity and thoughtfulness warmed her heart.
Luo Jiaojiao softly said, “Actually, such a large area isn’t necessary, a quarter is enough. I can plant some flowers there. The rest of the land can be used for vegetables. I’ve always wanted to try growing my own vegetables, but to be honest, I’ve only grown flowers, I don’t know anything about growing vegetables, I’m afraid I’ll mess it up.” She looked at him, her eyes full of worry.
Leng Mohan raised his eyebrows slightly, a hint of admiration flashing in his eyes. This little girl is quite considerate of others.
He smiled gently and said, “Don’t worry about growing vegetables, leave it to me. Tell me, what kind of greens do you like best, and I’ll plant them.”
Leng Mohan seemed to have perceived her confusion. He softly said, “I’m not picky, I’m willing to try any food that is edible. So, you just need to tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll be responsible for buying the seeds to plant.”
Hearing him say this, Luo Jiaojiao’s worries instantly dissipated.
She carefully listed her favorite vegetables: “I want to eat tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, Chinese cabbage, carrots, and small green vegetables. As for other vegetables, I can’t think of them for a while, so just buy more seeds back.” Her words were full of anticipation and determination.
“Okay, I’ll prepare some seasonal vegetables then, and we can rotate them to try different flavors.” Leng Mohan listened to Luo Jiaojiao’s words and also planned to plant some.
“Really? Thank you.” Luo Jiaojiao sincerely looked at Leng Mohan.
Looking at Luo Jiaojiao’s happy expression, a ripple flashed in Leng Mohan’s eyes, and his heartbeat seemed to quicken.
The light in his eyes deepened, as if something was quietly growing.
“Let’s go inside and take a look,” Leng Mohan said to Luo Jiaojiao.
“Okay,” Luo Jiaojiao nodded, and the two walked forward together.
Luo Jiaojiao stepped into the new house and was immediately attracted by the tiled floor. This was completely different from Leng Mohan’s previous cold cement floor, giving her a feeling of warmth and comfort.
She strolled with Leng Mohan, already starting to think about how to furnish the new house and create her own little world.
Luo Jiaojiao observed carefully, and the layout of the new house was clear in her mind. There were three bedrooms inside, and the kitchen and bathroom were outside. She couldn’t help but sigh, this new house was truly an ideal dwelling.
“Jiaojiao, have you thought about how to decorate it?” Leng Mohan softly asked, his eyes full of concern.
Luo Jiaojiao smiled slightly and replied, “Yes, I plan to think about it carefully tomorrow, and we’ll go buy furniture the day after tomorrow.”
“Are you satisfied?” Leng Mohan looked at Luo Jiaojiao, with a hint of expectation in his eyes. “I will try my best to tidy up here, to ensure it’s no worse than that small villa.”
Luo Jiaojiao smiled and nodded, “I’m very satisfied. This will be our home from now on, there’s no need to compare it to other places.” She looked at Leng Mohan, her eyes full of anticipation and longing for the future.
“I’ll draw the layout tomorrow and show it to you, then you can see what kind of furniture you want.” Luo Jiaojiao looked around the empty house, but her heart was filled with joy. She finally had a home of her own.
“Okay,” Leng Mohan looked at her satisfied smile and felt relieved. He would do his best to make this home their shared haven.
In the past, many military dependents who had not been assigned new high-rise apartments had caused quite a stir, with constant dramas and even many hilarious jokes.
However, for me, a young lady who had been pampered since childhood, adapting to a new environment was as natural as drinking water.
“It’s getting late, we should go back,” Leng Mohan’s gaze returned from the window, and he said softly to Luo Jiaojiao.
“Okay,” Luo Jiaojiao softly replied. As usual, she lowered her eyes and quietly followed Leng Mohan, her steps light.
Leng Mohan witnessed this scene and helplessly put his hands on his hips. Watching her lower her head, walking as if carrying the whole world, but her back still straight, it was indeed a miracle. He couldn’t help but walk over and gently pull her.
“Didn’t I tell you?” His voice had a hint of reproach, but it was also full of concern, “Walk with your head up and chest out, don’t always lower your head.”
Luo Jiaojiao’s heart was full of confusion. She didn’t know how to express her feelings, and she even lost the courage to walk with her head up and chest out. Her small hands were nervously clasped together, as if seeking a little comfort.
Leng Mohan noticed her uneasiness. He walked over and gently pulled Luo Jiaojiao. Luo Jiaojiao tried to dodge, but eventually stopped. She understood that she shouldn’t avoid him.
