Chapter 4: The Red Dress
Luo Jiaojiao lowered her head, gazing at the red dress in her hands. Its delicate texture was clearly superior to anything she owned, and its stylish design caught her eye.
She looked up at Leng Mohan, her eyes filled with disbelief. She softly asked, “Is this really for me?”
Leng Mohan glanced at her, a subtle curve playing on his lips. He said indifferently, “Besides you, who else would wear this dress? I don’t want to bring you back and embarrass myself. Change into it quickly.”
Though his words were harsh, Luo Jiaojiao heard a different kind of care in them.
Her heart trembled slightly, but she quickly masked her emotions. Regardless of Leng Mohan’s reasons for giving her the dress, it proved he had accepted her to some extent.
This was undoubtedly a relief for her. From now on, she would completely sever ties with this place.
She decided to be more gentle and considerate towards Leng Mohan in the future. After all, everyone has feelings, and her kindness and sincerity should elicit a response from him.
Luo Jiaojiao knew that while Leng Mohan appeared cold on the outside, his heart held warmth. Hadn’t his agreement to this marriage arranged by their parents shown a degree of acceptance of her?
Just as Luo Jiaojiao was about to step forward, Leng Mohan gently stopped her.
“You can change in the car. Pull down the window shades, and I’ll wait outside,” Leng Mohan said softly, looking at Luo Jiaojiao.
Luo Jiaojiao nodded in agreement; she, too, didn’t want to step foot in Luo Meihui’s house again.
Luo Jiaojiao, holding Leng Mohan’s hand, gently entered the car and carefully pulled down the window shades, creating a small private space.
Before closing the door, she looked at Leng Mohan, a hint of unease in her eyes. “Don’t leave. I’m a little scared.” After all, this was her first time changing clothes in a car, and Luo Jiaojiao felt a little nervous.
“I won’t go. Hurry up,” Leng Mohan’s eyes held a sharp perceptiveness, clearly seeing through Luo Jiaojiao’s fear. He nodded gently, giving her an encouraging smile.
Luo Jiaojiao gratefully grasped his sleeve. “Thank you.”
Leng Mohan frowned slightly and said faintly, “You’re welcome.”
Seeing Leng Mohan truly standing there waiting, Luo Jiaojiao’s nervousness dissipated. She quickly changed clothes. When she saw the delicate little shoes, a warm feeling surged through her heart. Leng Mohan was always so thoughtful and considerate.
Luo Jiaojiao finished changing and elegantly stepped out of the car. Her beauty was striking, like a shining pearl. Leng Mohan had anticipated her stunning appearance, but the sight still made him pause slightly.
In the dress, she looked like a fairy descending from heaven, indescribably beautiful. Leng Mohan couldn’t help but admire her silently. She truly suited the dress, and her beauty made it even more dazzling.
Leng Mohan took the clothes she had changed out of and handed them to Lin Li, sarcastically saying, “Your daughter didn’t come back naked, did she?” He cut her off before she could respond.
“Now, Luo Jiaojiao and your family should have no further connection. Please sign this agreement, Commander Luo. From now on, we are strangers. You cannot disturb Luo Jiaojiao, and of course, Luo Jiaojiao will not come looking for you again.” Leng Mohan produced the already prepared agreement and handed it to Luo Jiahui.
Luo Jiahui hadn’t expected Leng Mohan to be so thorough, but it was fine; at least they would have no reason to come begging for money in the future.
“Fine, I’ll sign,” Luo Jiahui said. “Once I sign this, Luo Jiaojiao will truly have nothing to do with my Luo family. You must keep your promise.”
Leng Mohan nodded slightly, taking the agreement, his gaze firm. From then on, the entanglement between Luo Jiaojiao and the Luo family would be completely over.
“Jiaojiao, are you really determined to cut off all ties with us?” Luo Jiahui’s eyes fixed on Luo Jiaojiao, his tone tinged with resentment.
Luo Jiaojiao slightly tilted her head, looking at Leng Mohan standing beside her. She nodded gently, a firmness flashing in her eyes. Between Leng Mohan and Luo Jiahui, she preferred to believe Leng Mohan could protect her.
Seeing this, Lin Li frowned, her displeasure with Luo Jiaojiao even more evident. “This ungrateful wretch, making our Luo family lose face!” she cursed silently in her heart.
Luo Jiahui took a deep breath, took the agreement and pen from Leng Mohan, and silently signed his name. He looked up at Luo Jiaojiao, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. “I hope you won’t regret this in the future,” he said softly.
Leng Mohan signed his name with a flourish. He handed one copy of the contract to Luo Jiahui, then turned to leave with Luo Jiaojiao.
Liu Kai, witnessing all this, quickly stepped forward, tightly grasping Luo Jiaojiao’s hand, his eyes filled with reluctance. “Sister Jiaojiao, don’t go with him, he looks so fierce. How about I have my third uncle come back and marry you?”
“I don’t want you to go either, Sister Jiaojiao,” Liu Kai held her hand tightly, his eyes firm. “If the Luo family doesn’t want you anymore, then come live at my house, and I’ll have my third uncle marry you. I believe he will cherish you.”
“Xiao Kai, what are you saying!” Liu Kai’s mother hurriedly interrupted him, her face slightly embarrassed as she looked at Leng Mohan and Luo Jiaojiao. “Jiaojiao is already married to someone else; we can’t ruin someone else’s marriage. Come home with me quickly.”
Liu Kai’s mother understood that her younger brother-in-law had always had special feelings for Luo Jiaojiao.
If it were before, when Luo Jiaojiao was still Commander Luo’s biological daughter, there might have been a chance. But now, Luo Jiaojiao was just a helpless orphan, unable to have any further connection with their family, and certainly not a suitable match for her younger brother-in-law.
She had seen her mother-in-law warn Luo Jiaojiao not to seek out her younger brother-in-law again.
After hearing Liu Kai and his mother’s words, Luo Jiaojiao couldn’t help but feel a little disheartened.
However, she also understood that there was indeed an insurmountable gap between her and Liu Zimo. Thankfully, she still had the marriage arranged by her parents to rely on; otherwise, she might have ended up homeless.
“Let’s go.” Leng Mohan was not a fool; he keenly sensed a connection between Luo Jiaojiao and the boy’s third uncle.
However, since she was his wife, he demanded that she let go of the past. He didn’t want to spend his life with a woman who still had another man in her heart.
