Chapter 53: Will
She didn’t care about Zhou Lin’s family background or wealth; she only cared about her own will. When she was most helpless, Leng Mohan gave her a home and protected her. Unless Leng Mohan truly didn’t want her, she wouldn’t leave him.
Looking at Zhou Lin again, she said firmly, “Zhou Lin, thank you for your kindness, but I have no intention of getting a divorce, let alone marrying you.”
Luo Jiaojiao’s brows furrowed, her heart filled with displeasure. She couldn’t understand why this man kept clinging to her.
She was already a married woman, a military wife. Wasn’t he also a former soldier?
Who exactly did he look down on? His so-called reliance on family background and parental savings might be a source of pride in the eyes of the world, but to Luo Jiaojiao, these were mere fleeting things, things she neither cared about nor valued.
A voice came from behind Luo Jiaojiao, laced with a hint of mockery, “Quite a temper, aren’t you? But you’re really beautiful, so I won’t hold it against you. Whether your marriage is real or fake, I suggest you divorce that man. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee your safety here.”
Although the words were spoken with a smile, they carried an undeniable threat.
Luo Jiaojiao sneered inwardly; this person’s disguise crumbled after only a few words. She didn’t look back, simply burying her head and continuing to walk forward, refusing to let these villains succeed.
“Where do you think you’re going? We’re not finished talking yet,” Zhou Lin’s voice suddenly rang out beside her ear, blocking her path.
His figure was like a boulder, standing in front of her, preventing her from moving forward.
Luo Jiaojiao raised her head, a flash of displeasure and resentment in her eyes: “Whose family I belong to, does it matter?”
Zhou Lin finally blocked Luo Jiaojiao’s path. After much effort, he finally won her rare direct gaze, which filled him with a surge of joy.
The corners of his lips curled slightly, his gaze fixed on Luo Jiaojiao, as if trying to see into the depths of her heart.
Luo Jiaojiao’s words were filled with firmness and warning: “I’m really getting married. If you want to get married, find another woman. The consequences of destroying a military marriage are beyond your imagination. What power you have behind you, your family’s wealth—none of it concerns me.”
Her tone revealed impatience, as if she was greatly troubled by Zhou Lin’s persistence.
However, Zhou Lin seemed unmoved. He continued to stare at Luo Jiaojiao, his eyes filled with firmness and determination.
Luo Jiaojiao silently looked down at the ground. The marriages of wealthy families were often arranged by their families, emphasizing matching social status. Zhou Lin’s behavior didn’t seem like that of a wealthy young master at all. Only someone with a problem would come out to pick someone up late at night.
“Really? But your eyes are as clear as a spring, your posture graceful and charming, clearly maintaining the purity of a virgin. You don’t look like a married woman. Are you looking down on me?” Zhou Lin’s gaze swept across her face, as if catching a faint maidenly glow, adding a touch of charm to her rosy cheeks.
Luo Jiaojiao grew increasingly impatient. This man’s words were gradually losing their respect. She was unwilling to tangle with him any longer, so she resolutely turned and left without hesitation.
Seeing Luo Jiaojiao ignoring him and preparing to leave, Zhou Lin’s anger surged. He quickly reached out his arm, trying to stop her.
However, Luo Jiaojiao was already prepared. She found an opening and, with lightning speed, kicked Zhou Lin in the leg. Zhou Lin was caught off guard and bent over in pain. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Luo Jiaojiao lifted her skirt and fled back like a madwoman.
“Ouch! You little girl, you dare to ambush me! You’re asking for it!”
“Just you wait! Once I catch you, you’ll be sorry!” Zhou Lin bent over, the pain almost unbearable, but his heart was still set on catching Luo Jiaojiao.
Luo Jiaojiao was sprinting forward when a figure suddenly swept past from the side, tightly embracing her. Instinctively, she thought it was Zhou Lin’s men who had caught her, so she fought back with fists and feet, struggling to break free.
“Behave yourself, Luo Jiaojiao.” A cold, icy voice came from above, it was Leng Mohan.
“Leng Mohan, I saw this girl first. If you’re smart, you’ll hand her over,” Zhou Lin, groaning, was helped over by his companions, demanding the girl from Leng Mohan.
Leng Mohan, this iron-blooded man, pulled Luo Jiaojiao behind him, like a hen protecting her chick.
Seeing this, Zhou Lin’s companions, knowing it was Leng Mohan, retreated several steps.
They dared not easily provoke him, not only because his rank was higher than theirs, but also because they knew that even if they joined forces, they might not gain any advantage against Leng Mohan, and might even end up punished. They weren’t as lucky as Zhou Lin, who had the battalion commander protecting him.
Leng Mohan strode forward, grabbed Zhou Lin’s collar, his eyes flashing with angry fire: “You saw her first? You goddamn saw my wife!” His voice was low and powerful, filled with undeniable dominance.
Zhou Lin’s men were terrified when they heard Leng Mohan’s words. They never imagined that Luo Jiaojiao was Leng Mohan’s wife. Their faces turned pale, and their bodies trembled involuntarily.
Some even regretted helping Zhou Lin. Now, if Leng Mohan pursued this, they would definitely be severely punished.
Leng Mohan’s eyes grew colder. Looking at Zhou Lin and his men, he was filled with anger and disappointment. He hadn’t expected his wife to be bullied here. He suppressed his anger, trying to keep his voice calm.
“Do you know what you’re doing? You’re playing with fire!” Leng Mohan said.
Zhou Lin and his men dared not meet Leng Mohan’s gaze. They lowered their heads, filled with fear and regret. They knew they had made a huge mistake, and if Leng Mohan didn’t let it go, their futures would be severely affected.
“Commander Leng, this has nothing to do with us. It was all Zhou Lin’s doing. He saw your wife and stopped her,” someone couldn’t bear Leng Mohan’s gaze and spoke out, hoping he would let them off since Luo Jiaojiao wasn’t seriously harmed.
After all, they weren’t as fortunate as Zhou Lin, who had a battalion commander uncle protecting him. They were all people who flattered Zhou Lin. Their families were rural, unable to offer them any protection. If Leng Mohan pursued this, their families would be shamed.
