Chapter 61: Clothing
Leng Mohan stared at the clothes in his hand, already suspecting something. When he saw the clothes on the table, he gently opened them and found, as he suspected, some stains. Fortunately, the clothes had fallen on dry ground and hadn’t gotten wet.
She had already done her best to salvage them, so only one garment had fallen.
“I’m sorry, are you wearing these clothes tomorrow? Will they be dry by then?” Luo Jiaojiao looked at Leng Mohan with worry in her eyes.
Leng Mohan looked at her concerned gaze, shook his head helplessly, and softly said, “Tomorrow is a rest day. Any clothes will do. Besides, I still have two unworn military uniforms in my closet. Don’t worry.”
His voice held a hint of reassurance, trying to put Luo Jiaojiao at ease.
“I’ll go get you some hot water for a bath. You can find some clothes first,” Leng Mohan said, going to the bathroom to fetch a bucket to collect hot water.
Everything here was fine, except that hot water wasn’t readily available. There was a women’s bathhouse, but Leng Mohan thought she wouldn’t like going there, so he didn’t suggest it and instead went to get hot water himself.
Luo Jiaojiao was still worried. She reached out and grabbed Leng Mohan’s arm. “Brother Leng, your hand is injured. I can just use cold water to wash it. I haven’t done any work, and I’m not very dirty.” Her eyes were full of concern and heartache.
Leng Mohan felt touched. She had a conscience and cared about him. But this small injury was nothing to him. “It’s fine, it’s just a minor injury, it won’t affect getting water. Go prepare your clothes to change into, I’ll be right back.”
With that, he turned and headed to the bathroom to get the bucket of hot water.
Luo Jiaojiao held Leng Mohan’s hand tightly, unwilling to let go. Her eyes showed determination and concern. “Brother Leng, you really don’t have to be strong. Your hand is injured…” Her voice held a hint of pleading.
Leng Mohan felt Luo Jiaojiao’s care and found it quite nice.
He stopped, turned around, and looked into Luo Jiaojiao’s eyes. “Alright, but I’m really fine. This small injury is nothing. You don’t have to worry too much.” Leng Mohan comforted her.
Luo Jiaojiao frowned slightly. “But…” She wanted to say something else, but Leng Mohan gently interrupted her. “Trust me, okay?” He looked at Luo Jiaojiao.
Finally, Luo Jiaojiao nodded. “Alright then, Brother Leng, be careful.” She released Leng Mohan’s hand, but her gaze remained on him, as if telling him to pay attention to his injury.
Luo Jiaojiao suddenly seemed to remember something. She quickly reached out and grabbed him, her tone hesitant. “Wait a minute.” Leng Mohan frowned slightly, a little puzzled, but seeing Luo Jiaojiao’s earlier concern for his injury, he patiently waited at the door.
Luo Jiaojiao returned to the room and carefully tidied the retrieved clothes. She picked up Leng Mohan’s clothes and put the washcloth into a bag together.
Her movements were gentle and meticulous, as if she were handling a precious treasure.
Then, she silently handed the bag to Leng Mohan, her eyes full of concern. “Here, this is your clothing. After you’ve showered, get me some water. Also, be extra careful with your right hand injury. Don’t get it wet.”
Luo Jiaojiao’s gaze showed genuine care. She sighed softly and whispered, “You should still take a hot shower. Cold water is too cold and bad for your body. When you’re older, you’ll easily get rheumatism.”
Her voice held a hint of worry. “And you’re so much older than me. If you don’t take care of your health, what if you die before me?” She only mumbled this to herself, afraid of upsetting him.
However, Leng Mohan’s ears were exceptionally keen, like radar, picking up every word she said.
The slight touch of emotion he’d felt instantly vanished, feeling worthless.
“Don’t worry, even if I die, I’ll try my best not to die too soon, I’ll wait for you.” He took a deep breath, took the bag, and silently nodded, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes.
He had been a little impatient with Luo Jiaojiao’s actions, but now, her thoughtfulness and care touched him.
As he reached the door, he suddenly stopped, turned back, looked at Luo Jiaojiao, his eyes full of concern and firmness. “Don’t go out again, understand? Wait for me to come back if anything happens.”
Luo Jiaojiao was still embarrassed that Leng Mohan had heard her earlier words. When she heard his instructions, she quickly nodded, feeling a warmth in her heart.
She silently told herself to be more careful and not go out easily. After Leng Mohan left, he locked the door, as if only then could he feel at ease.
He worried about any more accidents, wanting her to wait for him in this small space.
Leaning against the door, Leng Mohan suddenly wondered if his excessive concern for Luo Jiaojiao was good or bad. With this attachment, his future actions would be very restricted. After all, he was no longer single; he had a family now, Luo Jiaojiao, and in a few years, they would have children.
“Mohan.” Wang Li, preparing to go for a shower, saw Leng Mohan leaning against the door and exclaimed in surprise.
Leng Mohan heard the voice, pulled Wang Li away, and dragged him downstairs.
“What’s going on? Why are you standing at the dormitory door in a daze? Are you angry at your wife because of what happened with Zhou Lin? You know what kind of person Zhou Lin is. It must have been him who started it; your wife is clearly innocent. Besides, you’re far better than Zhou Lin in both ability and appearance. Your wife would never choose someone like Zhou Lin.”
Wang Li thought Leng Mohan was upset about Zhou Lin harassing his wife and tried to console him.
“I know Luo Jiaojiao would never be interested in someone like Zhou Lin. My appearance and abilities are obvious. As long as Luo Jiaojiao isn’t blind, she’ll make the right choice. I’m not angry at her, it’s just…”
Leng Mohan trailed off, a complex expression on his face.
“Just what?” Wang Li looked at him in surprise, seeing a hint of indecision on his face. Was this still the decisive and ruthless Leng Mohan he knew?
