However, the claim that she had slept with Wang Wenhao to get it was untrue. Despite this, nobody cared about the veracity of the claim anymore; the prevailing belief was that she had indeed slept with him to land the ad.

The logic was simple: sleep with someone, and you get the advertisement; don’t sleep with someone, and you don’t. It was a ludicrous and unfounded belief, but it was the one people clung to.
