Chapter 22: Making Things Difficult for Me
Seconds later, Chu Ning felt like she’d gone mad. She was thinking about Fu Yuzhou again for no reason.
Wanting the woman Fu Yuzhou liked to wear her dress?
Her brain had clearly been kicked by a donkey.
Chu Ning slapped herself, banishing those thoughts. After changing into pajamas, she realized it was night.
Tang Siqi, her roommate, hadn’t returned.
She’d been gone for almost two days. Tang Siqi must have come back, found her gone, and been worried sick.
Chu Ning wanted to call Tang Siqi, but her phone was gone.
A note lay on her bedside table.
It was a message from Tang Siqi:
【Little Lemon, I don’t know where you’ve gone! We can’t reach you, and your aunt and uncle are very worried, especially your brother – he’s practically gone crazy.
Baby, I know being dumped by Zhou Chenhao is hard to accept, but you said that after giving up that big jerk, Zhou Chenhao, you could embrace a whole forest.
Really, the world is beautiful. Leaving that piece of trash, Zhou Chenhao, isn’t the end of the world.
Don’t leave us. I don’t know if you’ll come back, but I’ll be waiting for you here.
I don’t know if you’ll see this message, but I hope you do and get in touch.
I’ve prepared a spare phone for you; it’s in the drawer.
Baby, my Lemon, my little baby, don’t do anything stupid! I’m begging you, my dear, don’t do anything stupid!】
Sincerely, Siqi
The message, overflowing with care and love, warmed Chu Ning’s heart.
This was her best friend, someone closer than a sister.
She’d always been so caring, filling Chu Ning’s loveless life with sunshine.
Without hesitation, Chu Ning took the spare phone Tang Siqi had left for her from the drawer and called her.
Beijing Public Security Bureau.
Because Chu Ning’s disappearance had exceeded 24 hours, a report had been filed, alarming the police.
The entire police department was now cooperating to find Chu Ning, the daughter of the Chu family.
The Chu family was waiting at the police station.
Of course, so was the Zhou family.
Chu’s mother cried until her eyes were swollen. “Damn Zhou Chenhao! You must return my daughter, or I’ll die right here in front of you!”
Chu’s mother seemed to have lost her mind, muttering curses even though Zhou Chenhao wasn’t present.
Madam Zhou, Wang Xiang, sat beside Chu’s mother, holding her hand. “My dear, believe me, Ningning is fine. That child is so sensible and well-behaved; she would never do anything rash.
She’s probably just being playful, hiding somewhere. Once she’s adjusted, she’ll come back to see us.”
“It’s been almost two days! Where could she have gone? She’s never run away from home before. In my opinion, it’s your son. He doesn’t want my daughter anymore.
He’s completely abandoned her, and he’s probably done something sneaky, taken her somewhere.”
Wang Xiang knew her son was a scoundrel, but not to the point of murder.
“My dear, I guarantee you, Chenhao wouldn’t do that. If he did, I’d be the first to kill him.”
Tang Siqi, sitting on Chu’s mother’s other side, retorted sarcastically, “I’m afraid you can’t. It’s all an act.”
Tang Siqi also suspected Zhou Chenhao was involved in Chu Ning’s disappearance.
Otherwise, Chu Ning wouldn’t have left without her phone.
That’s why she’d taken Chu Ning’s phone and given it to Chu Yunxuan, Chu Ning’s older brother.
She’d also prepared a spare phone for Chu Ning, leaving it in the apartment in case she returned and needed to contact her.
Wang Xiang’s face suddenly changed. “Miss Tang, I have no quarrel with you, yet you repeatedly target me. I’ve always tolerated you for Ningning’s sake, not wanting to argue with a younger generation.
Now you’re adding insult to injury. What do you mean?”
Tang Siqi was genuinely worried about Chu Ning’s disappearance and didn’t give Wang Xiang a pleasant expression.
“It’s obvious. Your Zhou family hurt Ningning, causing her to run away.”
Wang Xiang couldn’t explain herself. It was her son, Zhou Chenhao, who was incorrigible, couldn’t see Chu Ning’s goodness, and hurt her.
She, the future mother-in-law, had always treated Chu Ning like her own daughter, so why had she become the villain?
“Zhou Chenhao, that brat, is the one at fault. It has nothing to do with our Zhou family. Don’t paint us all with the same brush.”
Wang Xiang was furious, wishing she could disown her son.
“He’s your son. You can’t just wash your hands of it.”
Tang Siqi’s aggressive words left Wang Xiang speechless and furious.
“Tang Siqi, you…”
Wang Xiang wanted to slap Tang Siqi, but ultimately, she didn’t.
Suddenly, Tang Siqi’s phone rang.
Seeing the number, Tang Siqi thought her eyes were playing tricks on her.
“Lemon, is that you?”
Chu Ning, following Tang Siqi’s instructions, quickly contacted her.
“It’s me, Siqi. It’s me.”
Hearing this, Tang Siqi jumped up from her chair. “Darling, it’s really you! You’re finally back! Where have you been? Tell me, did that trash, Zhou Chenhao, have you hidden somewhere?”
Chu Ning choked.
She hated Zhou Chenhao, but she didn’t want him to take the blame.
“No, I left for a few days by myself.”
Even though she didn’t want to.
“By yourself?”
Tang Siqi was incredulous.
She found it hard to believe that Chu Ning would act so rebellious unless it was because of Zhou Chenhao.
Otherwise, she was always so well-behaved.
She would absolutely never do something so rebellious.
“Chu Ning, you’re not covering for Zhou Chenhao, are you?”
“No, Siqi, I’m not lying to you.”
“You…”
“Ningning, where are you? Mom’s coming to find you.”
Before Tang Siqi could finish, Chu’s mother snatched the phone.
Chu Ning was startled.
“Mom, you’re with Siqi?”
“Yes, you’ve been missing for almost two days. We’ve been waiting at the police station for news.”
Chu Ning’s body trembled. “You reported me missing?”
“It’s been almost two days. Of course, we reported it.”
“I’m fine. Withdraw the report.”
Chu Ning was distraught. Her departure had been so sudden.
She hadn’t had time to say goodbye to her family.
“Okay, we’ll withdraw the report. Wait for us to come.”
Chu Ning said, “I’ll come to you.”
After what happened, how could Chu Ning stay home quietly?
“Okay, we’ll wait for you.”
Half an hour later.
Chu Ning arrived at the police station.
Before she could speak to her mother and Tang Siqi, she was blocked by Zhou Chenhao and the police.
“What the hell are you doing? Chu Ning, you deliberately hid, trying to make things difficult for me? Or are you still playing hard to get?”
Since Chu Ning’s mysterious disappearance, Zhou Chenhao had been considered the prime suspect.
He had to cooperate with the police to find her.
Half an hour ago, he’d received a call from his mother.
He’d gotten the news that Chu Ning was back.
He immediately went to the police station with the police to intercept her.
