Chapter 1 Crossing Warning
Lin Yuexi was peeling an apple when her hand slipped, the sharp blade cutting her finger. A drop of blood splattered onto the jade pendant she wore around her neck. After that, she fell into an endless nightmare.
In her dream, there was a small, earthen house with a thatched roof. The windows were narrow, the white paper pasted on them trembling in the wind. The room was dimly lit and gloomy. In the corner, a hoe, shovel, sickle, and curved knife, among other farming tools, were leaning against the wall. Next to it was a simple earthen stove, cold and empty, without a trace of smoke. A thin, yellow-faced woman was sleeping on a wooden bed covered with straw and a blue floral patched cotton quilt. A wobbly square wooden table was placed beside the bed, and a few broken earthen bowls were scattered on the floor beside the table, their chipped edges reflecting the poverty of their lives. In the room, two children, a boy and a girl, about three or four years old, stood stiffly. They were ragged, their faces dirty, and their eyes filled with tears. They stared straight at Lin Yuexi, their eyes filled with resentment, fear… Lin Yuexi wanted to approach the children, but her feet seemed to be rooted to the ground. Suddenly, a cold wind blew, and the paper windows rattled. The two children’s figures became even more lonely and helpless in the dimness. They opened their mouths but made no sound. Only endless sadness spread through the room.
Lin Yuexi thought that since the blood from her finger had dripped into the jade pendant and dissolved, she had been having the same dream every day, and a personal space had appeared beside her. Was she about to travel through time? Or was she about to travel into the body of a woman with two children? Thinking about this, Lin Yuexi quickly got out of bed, washed up, and went to the dressing table. She picked up the jade pendant and thought to herself, “I want to enter the space.” In a moment, Lin Yuexi found herself in a farm within the space. The sky was clear, and a gentle breeze brushed against her face. Standing in the farm, she could see a fence in the distance. Not far from the fence, there were mountains and water, with distant mountain ranges looming in the distance… Inside the fence, there was about two hundred acres of land, divided neatly and planted with rice, corn, millet, and other crops. The wind blew, the crops swayed gently, a scene of abundant harvest. In the middle of the farm, a clear river meandered through the land, its water sparkling in the sunlight, fish playing happily in the water. Lin Yuexi had grown up in the countryside, and she knew that these crops were growing so well because of the irrigation from the stream and the fertility of the land. Next to the land, a thirty-acre pasture was separated by a fence, apparently for raising chickens, ducks, sheep, and other livestock, except there wasn’t a single animal in sight.
Next to the pasture was a well. Lin Yuexi walked over and was surprised to find that it was a living spring, with clear spring water bubbling up from the spring. Lin Yuexi was just a little thirsty, so she cupped some spring water in her hands and drank it. She found that it was clear, refreshing, and incredibly delicious. After drinking it, she felt refreshed, her senses heightened. Not far from the well, a beautiful Chinese-style villa stood. Lin Yuexi walked over. The villa’s walls were made of ancient, gray, sturdy and heavy blue bricks. There were occasional patches on the walls, like marks carved by time, adding a touch of age… Lin Yuexi pushed open the door and entered the villa, only to see a note on the table that read: “The jade pendant is imbued with blood, opening the door to the spirit. The dream of the villa is not real. The farm lies quietly in a paradise. The flowing water awaits your return. When you encounter this scene, it is fate. Relax your mind and walk towards the bright future. Fortune comes naturally, guided by fate. Turn misfortune into fortune and bloom beautifully.” Lin Yuexi thought to herself, “It seems that this space is the cultivation place of some high-ranking person, but I, a person of destiny, have accidentally discovered it! I must make good use of it.” Seeing that the villa was almost identical to her own residence, Lin Yuexi looked it over inside and out, up and down. The house was just like a modern house, with furniture, sofas, electricity, and even a TV. She took out her phone to go online, and there was even internet access. She went to the kitchen and was amazed! The kitchen had cabinets, pressure cookers, microwave ovens, induction cookers, rice cookers, ovens, air fryers, electric griddles, dishwashers, garbage disposals, food processors, juicers, soy milk makers, blenders, and so on. On the balcony, there was a washing machine, a shoe washing machine… Lin Yuexi walked out of the villa and saw that the outside seemed to be endless, with no end in sight. She didn’t know if she hadn’t noticed the crops were already ripe when she first entered, or if they had ripened while she was looking around. In any case, the crops were now ready to be harvested. Lin Yuexi thought to herself, “How am I going to harvest all these crops? It would be great if they could be harvested automatically.” As if she had just thought it, the crops disappeared in an instant. Lin Yuexi was startled and quickly went to the basement warehouse of the villa. She didn’t look, but when she did, she was even more surprised! In the corner of the warehouse, a large batch of crops was neatly stacked. Lin Yuexi thought again, “Since the grain can be automatically stored in the warehouse, it should be able to be automatically ground into flour, right?” As soon as she thought it, the grain underground was automatically shelled, and the grain that needed to be ground into flour was ground into flour, all neatly packed in bags. Seeing this magical scene, Lin Yuexi was extremely excited! With this space, whether she traveled to ancient times or the 1960s and 1970s, she could live a good life.
Lin Yuexi left the space and looked at her watch. She had been in the space for an hour, but only ten minutes had passed in the outside world. She quickly poured a cup of warm water and placed it on the table in the space. She went out to have breakfast and then came back to check the water on the table. It was still the same temperature as when she had put it in. Could this mean that things placed in the space wouldn’t spoil or go bad? Lin Yuexi thought about her recent dreams, fearing that she might be traveling through time to some era. Everything in her dreams proved that the original owner and her two children were lacking food and drink in that era. If she traveled into her body, wouldn’t she be living a miserable life without any supplies? No, no, I, a divine doctor and assassin, when have I ever gone hungry? I have to stock up on supplies, otherwise, I’ll be doomed if I travel through time!
Thinking this, Lin Yuexi quickly took out her phone and checked the balance on all her bank cards. Fortunately, each card still had two hundred million yuan… She thought, “If I travel through time, all my company shares, stocks, houses, and cars will be useless. I might as well sell them all and exchange them for supplies to put in the space, so that I can use them no matter what era I travel to.” So, Lin Yuexi took out her phone and called her special assistant, asking him to help her sell her shares, stocks, and houses. After making the call, Lin Yuexi waved her hand and put all the things she needed for her residence into the space, including her favorite clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry, some fitness equipment…
