Chapter 63 Lu Cheng’s Rehabilitation Training
Lin Yuexi was in the kitchen of her space, making breakfast while lost in thought. She was so conflicted that she almost put salt instead of sugar. She was afraid that if she revealed the truth, Lu Cheng would be terrified and distance himself from her. But keeping it from him felt like building an invisible wall between them. Ultimately, she decided to keep it a secret for now and observe for a while before revealing anything.
Lin Yuexi’s breakfast was a success today. She prepared millet porridge, steamed buns, dumplings, and egg custard for the children. She also specially made a delicious and nutritious oatmeal fruit cup for Lu Cheng. Making this oatmeal fruit cup was a bit time-consuming and required a lot of ingredients, but Lin Yuexi had all the fresh ingredients in her space, so it was effortless. She poured a suitable amount of oatmeal into a bowl, then added a small amount of yogurt and gently stirred it, allowing the oatmeal to be evenly coated with yogurt. Then she spread it in a clear glass cup, pressed it down with a spoon, forming the first layer. On top of the oatmeal, she placed a layer of sliced bananas, then poured in some yogurt to cover the bananas, forming the second layer. Then, she washed blueberries and strawberries, cut them into small pieces, and placed them on top of the yogurt, forming a vitamin-rich third layer. She repeated these steps, continuing to alternate layers of oatmeal and fruit until the cup was almost full. Finally, she poured a thick layer of yogurt on top, then sprinkled some crushed nuts, adding texture and nutrition.
When she brought the oatmeal fruit cup to Lu Cheng, he was stunned. He had never seen such a breakfast before. Lu Cheng took the oatmeal fruit cup with a look of wonder, carefully examining the exquisite and colorful breakfast. He sincerely exclaimed, “Yuexi, what is this? It looks so special, you must have put a lot of thought into it.” Lin Yuexi lowered her head slightly, a faint smile on her lips, a hint of nervousness flashed in her eyes. She said softly, “Your body needs nutrition to recover, so I thought of changing things up a bit. Try it.”
Lu Cheng scooped up a spoonful and put it in his mouth. The richness of the oatmeal, the sweetness of the fruit, the richness of the yogurt, and the crunch of the nuts all spread on his tongue at once. The delicious taste made his eyes light up. “Delicious! Yuexi, your cooking skills are amazing. This is the most unique breakfast I’ve ever had.” Lu Cheng praised generously, his eyes filled with admiration and affection for Lin Yuexi.
Lin Yuexi looked at Lu Cheng’s satisfied expression, her anxiety subsided slightly, and a hint of sweetness arose in her heart. Ziyan and Xiyun also gathered around, curious about the oatmeal fruit cup in Lu Cheng’s hand. Lu Cheng smiled and gave them some. The two little ones ate with gusto, their laughter and chatter echoed in the room.
After breakfast, Lin Yuexi cleaned up the dishes and, as usual, pushed Lu Cheng to the courtyard for rehabilitation training. To train Lu Cheng’s leg muscles, Lin Yuexi had Xiao Yichen and Gao Lechuan install two parallel wooden poles in the courtyard before they left. At this moment, Lu Cheng was tightly gripping the two parallel wooden poles, his forehead covered in sweat, his teeth clenched, trying hard to lift his left leg. Lin Yuexi stood beside him, her eyes focused and determined. She said loudly, “Lu Cheng, come on, take it slow, feel your leg muscles working, concentrate the strength in your thighs.”
Lu Cheng took a deep breath, following Lin Yuexi’s instructions, focusing all his attention on the muscles in his left leg, trying to control it to lift upwards. At first, his left leg only trembled slightly, lifting off the ground a little. But under Lin Yuexi’s constant encouragement, he held his breath, exerted himself, and finally lifted his left leg a little higher. “Great job, Lu Cheng! That’s it, keep going, lift it a little higher.” Lin Yuexi shouted excitedly, her eyes filled with joy.
A determined smile appeared on Lu Cheng’s face. He seemed to have found the feeling and tried to lift his leg a few centimeters higher. Although the process was extremely difficult, his knuckles turned white from exertion, and his body trembled slightly, but he never gave up.
Next, Lin Yuexi asked Lu Cheng to try bending his knee and bringing his foot closer to his buttocks. Lu Cheng held onto the wooden poles with both hands, slowly bending his knee. Every movement seemed a bit strenuous, but under Lin Yuexi’s patient guidance, he gradually adjusted the angle and force. “Bend your knee a little more, yes, don’t rush, steady yourself.” Lin Yuexi said, gently supporting Lu Cheng’s calf with her hand, helping him feel the correct range of motion.
After a period of practice, Lu Cheng gradually mastered the technique of this movement. He was able to bend his knee more freely and bring his foot closer to his buttocks. He looked excitedly at Lin Yuexi, his eyes sparkling. “Yuexi, I did it, I feel my leg has more strength than before.”
Lin Yuexi smiled and nodded, her eyes filled with relief. “Yes, you did great, keep going. Next, we’ll practice standing up. Try to stand up leaning against the wooden poles.”
Lu Cheng gripped the poles tightly with both hands, slowly shifting his weight onto his legs, then carefully exerted himself, trying to stand up. At first, his legs were a little weak, and his body swayed, but with Lin Yuexi’s support and encouragement, he gradually found his balance and successfully stood up.
“Lu Cheng, look, you’ve made great progress. As long as you keep going, your leg will definitely get better and better.” Lin Yuexi’s voice was full of confidence and encouragement.
Lu Cheng listened to Lin Yuexi’s encouragement, a strange light appeared in his eyes. The bit of depression he had last night was gone. It had to be said that the power of love was great.
Lu Cheng practiced for another half an hour. Lin Yuexi was afraid that he would overexert himself and hurt himself, so she quickly stepped forward to support him and said softly, “Lu Cheng, we’ve practiced enough today. We need to take things slowly, don’t be impatient. Let’s take a break.”
Lu Cheng wiped the sweat from his forehead. Although he still wanted to practice a little more, he understood that Lin Yuexi was right, so he nodded and slowly sat back in his wheelchair with Lin Yuexi’s help. Lin Yuexi thoughtfully handed him a glass of warm water, which was actually heated spiritual spring water from her space. Lu Cheng took it and drank a few sips, feeling his tired body relax a lot.
At this time, Lu Ziyan and Lu Xiyun ran over, jumping and skipping. Lu Ziyan looked at Lu Cheng with admiration and said, “Dad, you’re so amazing today, you can stand up. I believe you’ll be able to walk like before soon.” Lu Xiyun also nodded vigorously beside him.
Lu Cheng looked at his two lovely children, reached out and touched their heads, his face filled with a gentle smile. “Yes, Dad will try his best. When Dad gets better, I’ll take you guys out to play.”
Lin Yuexi watched this heartwarming scene, feeling warm in her heart. She thought that maybe it wouldn’t be bad to live like this.
