Chapter 19: The Gracious Future Father-in-Law
Meng Yitong saw that her mother was about to lose her temper, so she quickly grabbed her and whispered in her ear, “10 billion!”
What she was referring to was the contract that the Meng family had made her sign a few days ago. Although the contract only had two requirements for Meng Yitong — to marry and not actively harm the marriage — the rest of the contract promised benefits.
At first glance, it seemed like just a simple property gift document with two small requirements. However, Meng Yitong noticed the clause stating that if she violated these two conditions, not only would she lose any assets from the Meng family, but she would also have to pay them 10 billion.
So, even though Meng Yitong wasn’t happy, she was still controlling her emotions well.
There was no way the Meng family could pay off that kind of debt in ten lifetimes.
As expected, Su Mei was very aware of her family’s situation. After hearing Meng Yitong, she sat back down, her previously lifted buttocks now firmly planted.
Meng Yitong looked over at her brother, Meng Yuanliang, who was eating enthusiastically, and couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
Shouldn’t she just throw him away? He couldn’t even stand up for his sister, let alone show his face like Meng Yuanxi, who at least makes an appearance. It’s better than just sitting here and stuffing his face!
The saying that an 18-year-old young man could eat a whole cow seemed to have some truth to it.
The banquet tonight was definitely high-end. Just from the dishes alone, many of them were things Meng Yitong had never seen before.
But perhaps due to the habits of high-end hotels, although the presentation of each dish was beautiful, the portions were quite small.
Most dishes were prepared for the number of people dining, with only 10 servings, so a person only got one bite before the dish was gone.
While others were chatting, Meng Yuanliang managed to empty several plates on his own.
The hotel staff was clearly shocked by his eating speed, and after that, the speed of the food service picked up, and the portions began to increase.
The others, who had been chatting, now turned their attention to Meng Yuanliang due to the frequently removed plates.
At this moment, Meng Yuanliang was focused on eating the abalone in his bowl. His movements were elegant and refined, but his speed was quick.
In less than two seconds, he had finished the abalone in his bowl and was reaching for another from the plate.
Everyone stared at his plate, which only had one piece of abalone left, and they fell silent.
Meng Laoyezi (Old Master Meng) felt embarrassed. He really hadn’t expected Meng Yuanliang to be so oblivious. He didn’t understand how, in a family that had never lacked food, he could act so greedy in public. It truly was embarrassing!
But as much as he thought that, his sense of propriety kicked in, and he had to salvage the situation.
Looking at Meng Yuanliang with affection, Meng Laoyezi smiled and said, “This child has always been healthy and has a great appetite. Now that he’s joined the sports team, his physical activity and food intake are even greater. Hahaha…”
“Being able to eat is a blessing!” Chairman Qin chuckled, glancing at Meng Yuanliang’s tall frame, which still towered even while seated.
“Yes, I really understand that more at my age.”
After finishing his sentence, Meng Laoyezi turned to the waiter and said, “Waiter, bring him another plate of food.”
After giving his instructions, Meng Laoyezi turned his warm gaze to Meng Yitong and said, “Our Yitong is just like her brother, with a good constitution. She’s grown up and has never even caught a cold.”
Upon hearing Meng Laoyezi’s praise, Meng Yitong’s face darkened.
What? Is that the only compliment I’m getting? Over two hours of meeting, and the only compliment I’ve received is about my health.
But no matter what Meng Yitong thought, Chairman Qin seemed to like it. After hearing Meng Laoyezi’s words, he looked at Meng Yitong with a satisfied expression and gave her a few approving glances.
After they had eaten and chatted for a while, Chairman Qin called someone in from outside.
Meng Yitong looked up and immediately recognized that this person must be a lawyer. The man, in his forties, was dressed in a formal suit, carrying a briefcase, and had a serious expression — he was clearly an experienced, elite lawyer.
Meng Yitong knew that the main event of the evening was about to begin, so she quickly gathered herself.
These days, most wealthy people draft a prenuptial agreement before marriage to avoid disagreements over property division in case of divorce.
Having once worked as an intern lawyer, Meng Yitong had written many prenuptial agreements for wealthy clients. She was now curious to see her own.
As the lawyer arrived, everyone moved from the dining table to a nearby tea room.
The lawyer took several thick documents from his briefcase, handed them to Meng Yitong, and began explaining the terms of the contract to her.
Mong Yitong, who had thought this was a prenuptial agreement, froze when she saw the contract.
It was another property gift agreement!
Mong Yitong counted the assets listed in the agreement and felt her eyes blur.
8 villas, 4 office buildings, 2 commercial streets… Most importantly, there was also 5% of the shares in the Qin Group.
Although Mong Yitong had previously received 5% of the shares in the Mong Group from her grandfather, they were incomparable to the 5% shares of Qin Group.
First of all, the economic scale of the two groups was not even in the same league. Qin Group had already become a multinational company with businesses around the world, while Mong Group’s main market was still domestic.
Secondly, the main business of Mong Group consisted of traditional industries such as trade, supply chains, and supermarkets, while Qin Group’s industries not only included real estate, construction, trade, and pharmaceuticals but also covered cutting-edge fields such as the internet, vehicles, new energy, and communications.
Just from the future prospects of the two companies, they were not comparable at all.
