Chapter 29: Preparing to Get the Marriage Certificate
Meng Yitong couldn’t help but smile and quickly added him as a friend.
As soon as she added him, she sent a cartoon sticker of a little girl happily spinning around.
Not long after, Qin Zhuoran replied.
Qin Zhuoran: [Did you wake up?]
Meng Yitong glanced at the time on the top right corner of her phone, which read 3:10 PM, with a dark look on her face.
Meng Yitong: [Who’s still sleeping at this time?]
Upon seeing her reply, Qin Zhuoran couldn’t help but chuckle. He remembered how Meng Yitong looked when she was deep in sleep that morning, and he also recalled her playful little expression when she sent that message.
Qin Zhuoran: [I meant after your nap, have you woken up?]
Meng Yitong: [A nap? I wouldn’t still be sleeping at this hour. Do you think I can sleep that long?]
Qin Zhuoran couldn’t help but laugh to himself. It seemed like she was someone who cared about her image.
He didn’t want to annoy her, so he straightened his expression and replied: [Get ready, I’ll come pick you up in a bit.]
Meng Yitong: [Pick me up for what?]
Meng Yitong asked out of curiosity. She had heard from Li Shenshi that Qin Zhuoran was a workaholic, always working even on his days off, so it was unheard of for him to take time off work during the workday.
Qin Zhuoran: [To get the marriage certificate.]
When Meng Yitong saw those three words, her face immediately flushed red. It was clearly just a normal procedure, but she couldn’t understand why she felt so happy about it.
Having seen the darker side of the world, Meng Yitong forced herself to release the excitement she was feeling.
She shook her head, trying to calm herself.
Meng Yitong thought bitterly, maybe this was just a rich family’s tactic—setting low expectations at the start, only to give small gestures later, so she would feel deeply grateful.
Wasn’t this classic PUA?
With that thought, she became much calmer and calmly replied: [Okay.]
After sending the message, she put her phone down, went to the bathroom to freshen up, and applied a light makeup.
Once she finished, she went down to the living room. It wasn’t long before Qin Zhuoran walked in.
Although Meng Yitong had mentally prepared herself, seeing Qin Zhuoran step out into the sunlight, his body seemed to have a golden halo surrounding him, shining brightly.
As he walked closer, the evening sun cast its light from behind him, blurring the outline of his body.
Sitting on the sofa, Meng Yitong watched as he walked closer, almost like an angel coming to lead her from the darkness into the light.
Unconsciously, Meng Yitong stretched out her hand.
Qin Zhuoran looked at the hand she extended and couldn’t help but smile to himself. She was truly a little girl who loved to act spoiled.
Thinking this, he reached out and gently pulled her up.
When Meng Yitong stood up, she snapped out of the daze she had just been in.
She felt a little embarrassed when she realized she had extended her hand first.
With a pout, she tried to pull her hand away from his grip but found it impossible. When she looked up at Qin Zhuoran, she saw his eyes filled with a smile.
She froze for a moment. Wasn’t he supposed to be a man with a ruined childhood and a gloomy personality?
Why was he smiling? And why was his smile so warm?
Seeing his smiling eyes, Meng Yitong couldn’t help but feel her mood lift, and she smiled back.
Qin Zhuoran watched as Meng Yitong’s expression changed multiple times in just a few seconds and couldn’t help but shake his head inwardly.
He looked at her still-changing expressions and gently said, “It’s getting late. Let’s head out quickly so we don’t miss office hours.”
With that, he took her hand and led the way out.
Meng Yitong quickly followed.
As they walked, Qin Zhuoran asked, “Do you need to go to the Meng family’s house to get the household registration book?”
“No need, I brought it with me!”
Before Meng Yitong came to the Qin family’s house, her mother had given her the household registration book and repeatedly urged her to get the marriage certificate as soon as possible.
Since there wouldn’t be a wedding, Meng Yitong’s mother was worried that her daughter would go to the Qin family without any official recognition, and that she might be emotionally manipulated and then abandoned.
So, under the condition of no wedding, Meng Yitong’s mother insisted that once her daughter moved in, she should get the marriage certificate as soon as possible. That way, even if they divorced later, it would sound more respectable.
Therefore, before Meng Yitong left for the Qin family, her mother had handed the household registration book over to her.
Of course, this household registration book wasn’t from the Meng family but from their family of four. It was the one her mother had separated when she and her father left the Meng family to start their own business.
Thankfully, they had split the household registration back then, or Meng Yitong would have had to make another trip back to the Meng family.
Meng Yitong couldn’t imagine how her mother would act if she returned to the Meng family.
Although filled with motherly love, Meng Yitong really didn’t want to share so much of her private life.
But her mother, out of concern, seemed to want Meng Yitong to live stream their daily interactions.
Meng Yitong was scared by it all. She had just arrived at her new home and barely knew Qin Zhuoran. She didn’t have the certainty to talk about many things yet, and she certainly didn’t want to discuss everything with her mother.
Furthermore, when it came to relationships, nothing was worse than other people’s opinions
