The Niece-in-law Remarried Him, and the Scheming Officer Went Crazy with Joy Chapter 2

Chapter 2 She’s Not a Good Person Either

This all had to be traced back to half an hour ago.

The original owner had been at home cooking braised pork, planning to bring some to Cen Bowen, her so-called “boyfriend.”
The moment she stepped into the courtyard, she caught sight of Cen Bowen holding Kang Ying’s face, their mouths almost touching her eyes.
She turned to leave right away.

But it was midday break, and the courtyard was dead quiet.
At the sound of footsteps, Cen Bowen turned his head.
In a panic, the original owner quickened her pace, trying to act like she hadn’t seen anything.

From behind came Kang Ying’s shout:
“Song Yiyi, don’t go!”
She even rushed over to grab her by the arm.
In the scuffle, the original owner’s head hit the wall.

Thinking about it now, Song Yiyi finally pieced the whole thing together.

The ability of this world to alter “text” was frighteningly strong.
Never mind everything else—just the fact that Cen Bowen already had a girlfriend, yet Kang Ying still linked arms with him in public, praised the original owner’s looks right in front of him, bragged behind his back about their unshakable 20-year bond, flaunted that both of them were city folk, and acted all prim on the surface while being something else entirely underneath—proved that this woman was no good.

Coincidentally, neither was she.

The original owner had only knocked her head. She would probably regain consciousness soon, at which point Song Yiyi should be able to return to her own body.
In the meantime, she decided to make the most of her short-term possession of it.

She quietly opened her eyes.
Without giving anything away, she pressed down harder and harder on Kang Ying’s back.
The sudden extra weight almost sent Kang Ying sprawling face-first on the ground, if not for Cen Bowen’s timely grab.

“Yingzi, why don’t I carry her?” Cen Bowen said, concern written all over his face, his hands guarding Song Yiyi as if he might just scoop her into his arms—completely ignoring the beads of sweat on Kang Ying’s forehead.

Kang Ying bit her lip and forced out through clenched teeth,
“It’s only a few steps. Stop fussing. If I don’t help you, who else will?”
No way was she letting the two have physical contact.

Song Yiyi looked skinny, but she was heavy as a rock to carry—especially since Kang Ying could feel the curves pressed against her back.
If Cen Bowen carried her, his mind would surely start wandering.

Kang Ying began to suspect Song Yiyi was faking unconsciousness.
A country bumpkin from the sticks—yet her low-grade tricks kept coming.

She forced a smile and changed the subject:
“What’s this, you feeling sorry for me now?”

Cen Bowen, still completely focused on the “unconscious” Song Yiyi, blurted,
“Get lost. You’ve got thick skin, a fall won’t hurt you. My Yiyi’s different—she’s delicate. If she got hurt, I’d be heartbroken.”

Kang Ying shot him a glare.
If Song Yiyi weren’t still on her back, she’d have jumped up to strangle him.
He’d regret saying that later.

“We grew up together, for crying out loud. You really value your girlfriend over your brothers, huh?” she said.

Cen Bowen didn’t answer.
They had arrived at the military clinic.

“Doctor, please check on Yiyi—she suddenly collapsed while standing. Could it be she hasn’t eaten? She was sick not long ago…” Cen Bowen hurriedly pulled a doctor over, describing every detail of her symptoms.

Kang Ying, struggling up the steps, headed straight for the inner room to lay Song Yiyi on the bed.

“Ah!”

Just as Cen Bowen was mentioning the head bump, a scream came from inside.
He and the doctor exchanged a glance and rushed in.

“What happened?!”

Seeing the scene inside, Cen Bowen froze for a moment, then quickly moved to lift Song Yiyi—who was sitting on the floor, hands covered in blood.

But before he could touch her, she pushed his hands away.
She struggled to her feet and backed away two steps.

“Brother Bowen, did I do something wrong? Why are you two treating me like this?”
Her tears spilled over as she spoke.
Even in anger, her voice was soft, full of hurt and grievance.

Cen Bowen’s heart clenched.
He quickly asked, “Yiyi, what are you talking about? Be good, come here and let the doctor check you.”
His gaze dropped to her blood-stained hands.

The commotion drew the attention of the other staff and patients at the clinic.
They crowded around the doorway to watch.

At the sight of blood, there was an uproar.

“Isn’t that Deputy Company Commander Cen and his girlfriend? How’d she get hurt?!”
“No idea. Just now, the company commander’s niece carried her over—looked like she fainted.”
“The commander’s niece? You mean the one always linking arms with Deputy Commander Cen?”
“Yeah, that’s her.”
“Did they fight? Over Deputy Commander Cen?”

As soon as the question was raised, all eyes turned to Cen Bowen.

“There’s no such thing. Don’t start rumors,” Cen Bowen said helplessly. “Doctor, please check Yiyi—she’s bleeding so much.”

But before the doctor could approach, Song Yiyi stepped back again in a hurry.
She stammered, “Brother Bowen, I only came to see you at noon to bring you some braised pork. I… I didn’t know you were with Sister Kang Ying. I… I didn’t mean to see you kissing. I didn’t mean it…”

Her words set the onlookers buzzing.
Standing nearby, Kang Ying’s head snapped up in alarm.

“Song Yiyi, what nonsense are you spouting?! Shut up!” she barked.
Was this something you could say out loud?
Song Yiyi truly had no brains at all!

She was truly angry now.

When she had carried Song Yiyi in earlier and laid her on the bed, she’d leaned in to check whether Song Yiyi was really unconscious.
Just as she got close, Song Yiyi suddenly lifted her head.
Her forehead was hard, and it smashed right into Kang Ying’s nose.
The pain was excruciating, and blood had started flowing instantly.
All the blood on Song Yiyi’s hands—it was hers!

If Cen Bowen had spared her even a glance, he would have seen that she was the one who actually needed a doctor!

Kang Ying’s voice was sharp and shrill.
The sound made Song Yiyi flinch, her whole body giving a shiver as she plopped down on the bed, her face turning noticeably paler.

Cen Bowen felt both distressed and exasperated.
If he had known Yiyi would misunderstand, he would have just let Kang Ying deal with her teary eyes herself, or at worst, wash them with water.

“Yiyi, didn’t I tell you…” Cen Bowen tried to explain.

But Song Yiyi wasn’t about to give him the chance.
With trembling hands, she pointed at Kang Ying and said,
“Brother Bowen, Sister Kang Ying told me herself that you and she are the perfect match.”

Her tears streamed down like they cost nothing.
Crying prettily like a flower drenched in rain, she spoke in halting, broken tones:
“Brother Bowen, you’ve known each other since you were children. We’ve only just met. I don’t want to ruin your relationship. I… wuwu… I’d better give you back to Sister Kang Ying!”

The crowd around them drew in sharp breaths.

From ancient times to the present, gossip has been etched into the very genes of every Chinese soul—
and in a place like a military compound, it burned even brighter.

Everyone was waiting for the show.

On one side was the younger sister of Deputy Regiment Commander Gu, officially acknowledged by Deputy Company Commander Cen as his girlfriend.
On the other was the niece of Company Commander Wang, his childhood sweetheart who had grown up alongside him.

Who would he choose?
