Chapter 14 – Running to Someone’s Door Screaming ‘Vicious’? Is That Appropriate?
The day ended just like that, but as the car drove away, Xia Wanwan’s sharp eyes spotted Bai Huanxi lingering outside the compound.
It seemed this woman really had been reborn, and the man inside could very well be her husband…
Bai Huanxi also immediately spotted the familiar car, and more importantly, the man she had longed for. But before she could step forward to intercept, she noticed Xia Wanwan in the back seat…
How did Xia Wanwan know him?
In the previous life, Xia Wanwan would have been locked up by her cousin at this moment—how could she know him now? Could it be that her own rebirth had unknowingly altered the course of history? No, she had to twist this warped reality back.
Perhaps letting Xia Wanwan marry her cousin as scheduled could restore some of the original history…
Without hesitation, she set off, not looking back.
After the two sisters got out of the car, Xia Wanwan remained silent, while Xia Yuwei smiled at Lu Tingxiao and said, “Thank you for inviting us today, Xiao Lu. We’ll go upstairs now.”
“Mm.”
Lu Tingxiao casually glanced at the little fox before driving away.
Even he didn’t realize it—he treated Xia Wanwan slightly differently from other girls.
“You’re so obsessed with meat! It’s just a chicken leg, yet you insisted on snatching it from the host.” Now that everyone had left, Xia Yuwei finally let out the frustration she had been holding back the whole way.
Xia Wanwan stubbornly replied, “Sister, we’re the guests. Have you ever seen a host so stingy? Serves him right that he can’t find a wife. He really has no social sense.”
Xia Yuwei couldn’t help but laugh in irritation. Her sister actually had a point, though it was still nonsense. It’s just a chicken leg—was that really necessary?
“All right, all right. You’re right.”
The sisters bickered as usual. Tomorrow, and the day after, they would see their parents. Xia Yuwei’s mood was excellent.
In Dongninggou, Xia Chengzhi and his wife had already arrived. When the village chief received the introduction letter, he gave them a disdainful look. He had seen many people sent to the countryside for “reformation” due to mistakes. There were still several people living in the cattle shed.
They were immediately assigned a place with no beds—just a bundle of straw and twenty jin of coarse grain. Xia Chengzhi and his wife frowned at the surroundings.
The area looked slightly cleaner, with a few people living inside. Each family was in a fenced-off section, and five old yellow cows were fed nearby. Cow dung covered the ground, the smell pungent…
Tears streamed from Chen Ling’s eyes. When had they ever suffered such humiliation? They had considered hardship, but not to this extent.
When their daughter arrived, they wondered if she could withstand it.
“Madam, it’s all my fault for dragging you into this,” Xia Chengzhi muttered gloomily, slumping onto the bundle of hay. He had lived a blameless life, yet in the end, he was so badly framed, even dragging his family down. He felt utterly useless.
“How can you say that? As husband and wife, we share fortune and misfortune. I’m with you willingly.”
“I trust the organization will clear our names. I didn’t dare ask along the way since there were people around. You handled things at home so well—that’s the foundation for our return to the capital.”
Chen Ling was baffled. Nothing at home had been moved yet—what did he mean?
“Nothing was touched at home. Wanwan said the secret room was hidden well and shouldn’t be discovered.”
“Not everything was moved? Then why did the guards say the house had been emptied?”
The couple froze. Chen Ling had no idea—everything had been rushed that day. Could it have been Wanwan?
They realized the likely truth: the house being emptied was probably her doing. That girl feared nothing. With such a big mess at home, there was no way she would let others take her belongings.
Xia Chengzhi and his wife couldn’t help but smile bitterly. That girl was clever indeed.
“Let’s just accept this life for now and wait quietly for the child to arrive. No matter what, as the girl said, the family must always be together.”
Xia Chengzhi had no other options. Seeing their daughter married to a man she didn’t like, it was better if it was under his watch—at least he could feel reassured. Though, the girl would likely endure hardship.
That night, under the same stars, some rejoiced while others worried.
The next morning, Bai Huanxi arrived with a few buns. Xia Yuwei opened the door, and both sides were momentarily stunned. She politely asked, “Why are you here?”
“Yuwei, you’re here too? I didn’t know. Aren’t you married?”
If she hadn’t spoken, it would have been fine. But why was she living so miserably? It was all her father’s doing—yet she still played the good person in front of them. Disgusting.
Xia Yuwei didn’t respond and tried to close the door, but Bai Huanxi was faster, using her foot to block it.
“Yuwei, what are you doing? I’m your sister! Why won’t you let me in? Where’s Wanwan? I came looking for her!”
Xia Wanwan had just finished breakfast inside, wiped her mouth with a handkerchief, and stood up. Seeing the scene at the door, she gave a devilish smile and slammed the door shut with full force.
Crack! The sound of bones breaking was audible to the three of them.
The next second, a piercing scream echoed throughout the guesthouse, shrill as a vengeful ghost.
“Ah~ my foot’s broken! Waaa, it hurts so much!”
“Xia Wanwan, you bitch! Didn’t you see my foot?”
“I kindly brought you food, and you cruelly crushed my foot!” Bai Huanxi sat on the ground, clutching her injured foot, crying uncontrollably.
“Ouch, sorry! I really didn’t see your foot under the door. Besides, who would intentionally jam a foot under a door?”
Xia Wanwan smiled with satisfaction. This was just a tiny bit of revenge, and she couldn’t handle it. How would she survive in the future?
“Xia Wanwan, I’m your sister! How can you be so vicious, so ruthless?”
Seeing people peeking around, Bai Huanxi deliberately cried loudly, hoping to ruin Xia Wanwan’s reputation. Well, Xia Wanwan had been quite famous these past two days anyway.
Xia Yuwei couldn’t take it anymore. She spoke up: “We didn’t want to involve you, so we closed the door. But you deliberately put your foot in, and that’s how it got caught. Is it appropriate to run to someone’s door screaming ‘vicious’?”
Xia Wanwan couldn’t help laughing. Her sister was wonderful!
Every word was for her benefit, yet each word pierced her heart. She loved her sister so much!
