Chapter 24: She Will Never Forgive Me
He sat in Li Mo’s closet all night without eating or drinking. It smelled like her, as if she were still there. He didn’t think about anything but still felt sad.
Mo’s ashes were still in Sang Yuwan he had to bring her back.
This thought alone supported him as he unsteadily stood up. He cleaned himself up, shaved off his prickly beard, sprayed on some rose-scented perfume, and put on the suit she liked the most.
“Mo, I’m here to take you home. You have to agree…”
Lu Sheng stood up from the sofa and asked, “Cichuan, what are you doing?”
Lu Cichuan smiled gently, asking, “Sister, do I look handsome?”
“You do.” Lu Sheng laughed, but still felt confused.
“Then it’s good. Mo will definitely like it. I’m going to bring her home.” Lu Cichuan spoke quickly, his smile unable to be hidden. “Sister, I’ll leave the company to you and Yi Han.”
“Okay…”
In fact, Lu Sheng’s business acumen was not worse than Lu Cichuan’s. When she taught him in the past, she learned a lot too; the three years of sleep had made her forget some of it.
He drove there because Li Mo had said she liked looking at the scenery outside, enjoying the blue sky and green fields.
“Mr. Lu, why are you here again?” Sang Yuwan sat opposite him, stirring her coffee without looking up.
“I want to bring Mo home.” Lu Cichuan’s eyes were firm, making her find it laughable. Why hadn’t he done it earlier?
“Ha… Mr. Lu, I’ve told you before, Mo doesn’t want to see you.”
Lu Cichuan fell silent. After a long time, he looked up. “But she… she is my wife. I have to bring her home.”
“Good, your wife. But did you trust your wife? Did you fulfill your responsibilities as a husband?”
Sang Yuwan’s eyes showed disdain and anger.
“I’ll tell you something to consider: Do you really deserve to take her home?”
“Mo, get up and eat something.” Sang Yuwan frowned, worried as she stood by the sofa. Mo had been sitting in the corner for a day without eating or drinking since leaving the hospital.
Li Mo lifted her eyelids, moving her pale lips. “I can’t eat, Wanwan. Stay with me, okay?”
Sang Yuwan sat beside Li Mo, holding her cold hand, choking back tears. “Mo, if you’re unhappy, just cry it out, okay?”
Li Mo managed a weak smile. “I want to, but I can’t cry anymore. I barely even have the desire to express my unhappiness.”
Her eyes held a kind of desolate smile. “Wanwan, I hate him so much, yet I love him. I clearly don’t want to lose him, but I feel so powerless. Honestly, that feeling of wanting to give up while still loving him is the most torturous…
Since Sister Lu Sheng had her accident, Cichuan believed I had an affair with Jiang Yi, thinking I caused my sister to become a vegetable to cover up evidence.
The way I tried to explain in front of him made me feel like a sinner…
I keep telling myself that as long as Sister Lu Sheng wakes up, everything will be fine.
It will be fine. This sentence has supported me day after day…
Reason tells me to stop, action tells me to give up, but my heart tells me to wait a little longer.
I always tell myself to wait a little longer, but deep down, I know that waiting won’t change anything…
It doesn’t matter. I’m ordinary; my love is also ordinary…
He once said he would treat me well for his entire life, but…
His disgusted and hateful gaze, his cold and piercing attitude, each one is like a blade, stabbing my heart.
Each time I took him seriously, each time I was taught a lesson, each time I had expectations, and each time I was disappointed…
He killed my parents, imprisoned my brother, humiliated me, and even his own flesh and blood was not spared… The price of falling in love was too great, and I can’t afford it anymore…
If I could, I would rather have never met him. I would love to shred him into pieces and let him taste the pain that everyone in the Li family has suffered. I hope no one in the world loves him again, wishing he would live in guilt and remorse forever, never meeting him again in this life or the next…”
She had been trying to find her way back to the beginning, but he was unwilling…
“Mo, do you still love him…”
“I do. I love him deeply, but… this time, I don’t want him anymore.”
She said harsh words to her Cichuan but never said a single word of “I don’t love you.”
Sang Yuwan’s tears flowed uncontrollably. Li Mo smiled and gently wiped away her tears. “Why are you crying? My Wanwan shouldn’t fall for someone like me. You should live happily and safely.”
“Okay… Mo…” Sang Yuwan’s nose ached as she choked back her sobs.
After a while, Sang Yuwan managed to stop crying. Li Mo smiled, saying she looked like a little dirty cat.
“Wanwan, I want to go to Erhai Lake again, and I want to visit your old home in Qi’an. I love the scenery there, and I miss Grandpa Qiao’s green dumplings. They’re sweet and soft. Just thinking about them makes my mouth water…”
“Okay, once you rest for a few days, we’ll go.” Sang Yuwan sniffed, forcing a smile.
“Yeah, you have to take me.”
The sun shone brightly outside, flowers were in full bloom, and children’s laughter echoed in the air.
“Wanwan, I’m craving the little steamed buns from the street across from the hotel.”
“Okay, I’ll go buy them right now!” Sang Yuwan quickly agreed, grabbing her bag and rushing out the door.
Li Mo couldn’t help but laugh. “Slow down, be careful.”
“Okay!”
If Sang Yuwan had known that after she left, Li Mo would jump off the building, she would have stayed by her side that day. But life doesn’t have “if only”…
“That shop is an old one; there are many people. I waited for almost thirty minutes. When I brought the little steamed buns back, I saw her jump from the ninth floor with my own eyes.”
“She died right in front of me…”
—-
A rumble of thunder startled Lu Sheng. It was almost midnight, and Cichuan hadn’t returned yet.
She patted her chest to calm herself. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. She hurried to answer the door. “A… Yi Han?” The joy instantly turned to confusion. “Where’s Cichuan?”
“Miss Lu, Mr. Lu had a car accident…”
Lu Cichuan wasn’t seriously injured. He lost focus while driving and accidentally crashed into a guardrail, resulting in a head injury and some scratches on his arm, but nothing serious.
Lu Sheng looked at her despondent brother, feeling a mix of emotions. When Lu Cichuan saw Lu Sheng, he hugged her tightly and began to cry.
“Sister… it’s me… I killed her… She will never… forgive me…”
Lu Sheng held back her tears, gently patting his back…
The person who should disappear from this world is him, not that gentle and kind sun.
