Tao Shushu shifted her perspective and noted the position of the wolves.
The more she looked, the more frightened she became. No wonder it had been calm in the first half of the night. It turned out that a pack of wolves surrounded the entrance of the cave.
The wolves coordinated their positions with each other and laid dormant without making any noise.
When they attacked, the person inside could only resist on the spot, with no possibility of escaping.
Returning to the cave, Tao Shushu poked the cub. She was hesitating to tell the cub that there was danger outside when he suddenly grabbed the particle gun and stood at the door, more alert than when he had just stood guard.
He was truly worthy of being her cub.
A new task popped up on the screen: [Activating side quest 2. The Wilderness Wolf Pack is extremely vicious and once hunted down 50% of the surviving humans. Now, they are targeting your cub. Please assist the cub in eliminating the wolf pack. Task rewards: Gold X100, Primary Sobriety Card X3, Prestige X20.]
100 gold coins.
This was a huge sum of money.
Tao Shushu became even more eager to complete the task.
Tao Shushu saw two plates of fruits on the table, so she moved them to the entrance of the cave. She drew a rectangular plot and marked the position of each wolf with green fruits.
While she was doing these things, Nan Yuan wasn’t idle either.
Nan Yuan felt the person poke his hand.
They didn’t urge him to sleep instead they urgently poked him; he quickly remembered the gust of wind when they came in from outside the door.
Nan Yuan immediately realized that the person had detected a situation outside.
Nan Yuan cast aside the question of ‘how did that person get in and out when the cave entrance was blocked.’
He observed through the crack at the cave entrance and saw two green lights in the black pitch night.
It was a pack of wolves.
Nan Yuan became solemn. The wolf pack was one of the most difficult opponents on the barren planet, with large numbers and high intelligence; they also knew how to use human tactics.
Nan Yuan picked up the particle gun but then he hesitantly put it down again. He couldn’t rashly attack and break the delicate balance now.
When he turned around, he found a sand painting on the ground.
Like they were afraid that he wouldn’t understand, the sand painting was square in shape, with an arch at the bottom representing the cave door and a stone inside. There were many green fruits outside the door.
Nan Yuan just saw two wolves, whose positions correspond to the fruits in the picture.
So, this was the coordinate map of the wolf pack outside.
This type of map; did that person have a military background?
Nan Yuan thought for a moment.
At this moment, a wolf howled.
Nan Yuan no longer hesitated; he dodged a stone blocking the door and inserted an energy ball into the particle gun.
He calculated calmly; the two wolves squatting in front of the door acted as the vanguard.
The two ends on the side were responsible for sneak attacks, and as soon as he walked out, they would bite off his neck with one move.
Nan Yuan raised his hand and fired; his movements were clean and swift. After finishing one shot, he immediately switched to the next target.
Before Tao Shushu could react, she heard a string of gunshots.
Then the howls of the wolves rang out.
Tao Shushu went out and saw that six wolves had already fallen.
The cub sniped with great precision, each shot resulting in a fatal blow.
This also angered the remaining wolf pack, who howled and raced forward towards the cave.
Without hesitation, Nan Yuan fired another shot.
The two wolves at the front fell to the ground with a loud sound.
The other wolves crouched closely to the ground.
Nan Yuan observed the position of the wolf pack, took out another energy ball, and replaced it.
His heart sank; the person marked eighteen wolves on the sand painting.
Just now, he used his marksmanship as much as possible and shot eight heads.
There were still ten left.
Nan Yuan knew that after this trial, the wolf pack would be more cautious, and the death of their companions would make them even more cruel.
His perspective was limited, so he couldn’t see outside. The three wolves were crouched towards the ground and quietly approaching the cave from the side, where the old car was parked.
Seeing the sharp teeth of the three wolves about to charge towards the cub and bite, Tao Shushu quickly moved a stone. With the slope of the terrain, Tao Shushu pushed the stone.
The stone rolled down.
The three wolves were unable to dodge and were all crushed.
Tao Shushu then stretched out another finger and pressed down on the big rock.
The wolves howled.
Three gunshots rang out.
These three struggling wolves were also killed by Nan Yuan.
Tao Shushu watched as Nan Yuan walked out of the cave and suddenly became anxious. “Silly cub, it’s dangerous outside; there are wolves.”
She quickly pushed Nan Yuan and forcefully dragged him into the cave.
Nan Yuan didn’t push to stay and quickly ran back to the cave.
And the wolves took advantage of this opportunity to move forward and narrow their encirclement.
Nan Yuan held a particle gun in his right hand and stood guard at the entrance of the cave, his chest slightly heaving from the intense running.
His left hand was half raised in the air, maintaining the motion of grabbing something, and it took more than ten seconds before he lowered it.
Tao Shushu really didn’t know why a row of sad crying expressions suddenly appeared on the cub’s head after he fought so well.
Nan Yuan put down his hand and quietly said, “It’s very dangerous outside. I can deal with them. Don’t go out. At least, don’t go out without a heads up.”
After speaking, Nan Yuan stood in front of the cave door and even took a few stones to block the gaps, so that only the place where he was standing could be used to exit.
Tao Shushu paused for a moment. Although she didn’t know what the cub had said, judging from his posture, was he worried about her?
Nan Yuan’s gaze became increasingly fierce.
He shot quickly; this time he didn’t aim at the wolf’s green eyes but instead fired a shot at the wolf’s leg.
The pain would anger the wolf even more.
He wanted to provoke the wolves and make them rush to the cave entrance together.
Nan Yuan clenched his left hand again and again, forcing himself to focus all his attention on the battle, but a hint of fear unavoidably flashed through his mind.
He heard the sound of rocks rolling and wolves howling outside.
That person was outside!
At that moment, Nan Yuan’s actions defeated reason. He ran out of the cave and fired a few shots, resulting in the entrapment of three wolves.
He thought with lingering fear, luckily, there were only wolf bloodstains on the scene.
Then, he was pushed back to the cave by that person.
Nan Yuan instinctively grabbed the person’s hand, trying to prevent them from running out, but he only caught a glimpse of the air.
Nan Yuan’s heart trembled as he had to accelerate the battle in order to prevent that person from venturing out into danger.
Nan Yuan had seen how dangerous the wolf pack was in the wilderness. He had seen wolf packs hunting mutated lions, and the lions always became defenseless.
Nan Yuan dared not underestimate the enemy. He frequently fired at the wolf pack but didn’t completely kill them. His left hand rested outside, like fresh meat hanging in a shop window, tempting the bloodthirsty wolf pack.
Finally, the enraged wolf pack rushed over, and Nan Yuan quickly counted them. There were only four; where did the other three go?
Judging from the size, the wolf leader wasn’t inside.
It was too late.
Nan Yuan threw the glass bottle in his left hand towards the place where the wolves gathered.
Then, he shot the glass bottle.
The air was suddenly filled with an unpleasant smell, and viscous liquid fell from the air. As soon as it was stained, the wolf howled twice and fell to the ground.
Nan Yuan watched everything expressionlessly.
This was the blood-eating grass mucus he discovered today. Due to the fire burning down the blood-eating grass, Nan Yuan only had time to collect two small bottles. The blood-eating grass mucus had strong corrosiveness and toxicity, and just one drop was enough to kill a mutant wolf.
He had intended to lure the wolves one by one and hunt them one by one, but in order to end the battle early, he had to attack on such a large scale.
There were still three heads.
He had to work even faster.
Nan Yuan’s heart was filled only with the desire to end the battle.
But Tao Shushu was almost heartbroken.
After realizing that he was afraid of her being in danger, Tao Shushu didn’t intervene in the battle anymore. She held her phone and lovingly looked at the cub.
However, when Tao Shushu saw that the cub’s first move was a bottle of medicine that had knocked down several wolves, she couldn’t help but sigh. The cub was really extravagant. Such a big bottle could have been used for a long time.
This kind of move was too wasteful.
Tao Shushu, an old mother, strongly condemned it, but the two sides couldn’t communicate, so she silently ground her teeth.
Tao Shushu quickly switched out of the cave, striving to maximize the utilization of the medicine.
She switched to the place where the bottle shattered and picked up a piece of debris covered in mucus.
Then, she found the location of the remaining three wolves and pressed the fragments onto them.
The positions of the three wolves are scattered.
Upon discovering an enemy, the wolf let out a mournful howl.
The head wolf wanted to escape but couldn’t resist Tao Shushu’s faster speed. In an instant, she pressed down the glass shards.
Tao Shushu killed the third wolf in just one minute.
【 Side quest 2 completed: eliminate the vicious wolf pack and receive rewards: gold coins X100, primary awakening card X3, prestige X20. 】
Tao Shushu accepted the rewards and then saw Nan Yuan holding a gun, panting heavily on the side.
He ran out.
He ran in a hurry, even stepping on a pool of blood with one foot, but he just stubbornly looked into the air.
Tao Shushu immediately felt guilty but she soon cheered herself up. Why should she feel guilty? If the cub had taken out this lethal weapon at the beginning, she would have solved the woes in five minutes.
Tao Shushu thought for a moment and poked Nan Yuan’s face with one finger.
Nan Yuan suddenly looked up.
Tao Shushu took the opportunity and stuffed a finger into the palm of Nan Yuan’s hand.
Nan Yuan stiffened for a moment.
He quickly clenched his hand and held the person in his palm.
He exercised extreme restraint in order to suppress the urge to tighten his grip.
Upon hearing the howl of the wolf, Nan Yuan’s heart was so startled that it almost stopped beating. He didn’t know why the person had run outside again and confronted the wolves.
Fortunately, he clenched his fingers with lingering fear, they were still here, and nothing had happened to that person.
The mutated wolf pack had energy balls in their bodies. With a wave of her hand, Tao Shushu moved the screen and brought the wolf corpses into the cave. She also used fragments of bottles left outside to circle the hole to prevent other mutated animals from stealing food.
Nan Yuan crouched in the cave, processing the wolf meat and searching for energy balls.
From time to time, he looked up to the side, where fruits were being thrown up and caught.
Just like before the apocalypse, street performers in visual works usually threw fruits around.
Although it was a strange scene of fruits moving up and down in the air alone, Nan Yuan felt relieved just by looking at it. Because he knew that person hadn’t left yet, and that person was right beside him.
Suddenly, Nan Yuan’s gaze froze.
The green fruit fell to the ground, and they just casually wiped it and put it back on the table, but when the red fruit fell, they wiped it carefully and continued to play.
From the first time he collected those two types of fruits, that person clearly had a greater preference for the red one.
But the plants on the barren planet had mutated, and the red fruits were more prominent and easier for animals to eat. In order to protect themselves, red fruits usually contained toxins, which numbed the mouth, and it had a very poor taste. They could only be used as a last resort.
Anyone who had eaten it wouldn’t like red fruits. On the contrary, green fruits still retained their fruity flavor.
Nan Yuan speculated that the person seemed to prefer red fruits, so they must have never eaten it. Were they an artificial intelligence that couldn’t eat? They weren’t human?
