Chapter 27: I Like Everything You Do
Jiang Yunhe didn’t continue the topic. The feelings between the two of them had always been restrained and subtle—they had never said anything even remotely cheesy before.
Although she felt a little shy…
She still wanted him to know that he had a place in her heart.
Chu Peihan was extremely conflicted inside, like a cat clawing at his heart, making him uncomfortable all over. The feeling was unbearable.
Jiang Yunhe deliberately changed the subject and moved more quickly with her hands. After putting the chicken into the pot, she didn’t forget to add a few slices of ginger and a splash of white wine to eliminate the gamey smell.
After blanching it in water, she fished it out again and cleaned it thoroughly before finally starting to stew it.
And while it was cooking, taking advantage of the moment Chu Peihan wasn’t paying attention, she secretly swapped the water in the pot with spiritual spring water. After all, he was the one who said it made him feel refreshed and full of energy.
As long as there were no side effects, it was worth it.
Hongli twitched her mouth, seriously suspecting that if Jiang Yunhe kept feeding him like this, Chu Peihan might end up with a nosebleed. This wasn’t about “health” at all—she clearly wanted to overheat him with tonics.
Was this really okay?
Besides, Chu Peihan was a grown man, not some radish or green veggie. A tiny bit of spring water wouldn’t show results right away.
It still needed to be a daily thing—day after day, year after year.
After putting the chicken to stew, Jiang Yunhe went to find a basin to wash some vegetables. Later, she’d stir-fry them for him. Before her rebirth, she couldn’t control how he lived.
But now, it was different.
“Chu Peihan, do you prefer spicy or non-spicy food?”
“Whatever you make, I like.”
“……”
Liar.
She knew perfectly well he preferred non-spicy dishes—his taste leaned toward Northern flavors. But she just wanted an excuse to talk to him.
Chu Peihan wasn’t lying, though. These days, he had gotten used to simply eating whatever was available, not caring about taste.
To put it bluntly—he ate whatever he could get.
After all, living alone, he didn’t care much about comfort or warmth.
But now that he was planning to get married, he couldn’t go on like that anymore. If he did, he probably couldn’t even take care of his wife properly—what would Yunhe do then?
Jiang Yunhe originally wanted to find some rice or flour to make a staple dish for him, but she soon discovered that he didn’t have anything in the house—not even a bite of food.
She looked around and found nothing edible.
“Chu Peihan, you…”
“We’ll head into town later and buy some supplies.”
“Those two little brats took everything, didn’t they?!” Jiang Yunhe wasn’t dumb—she quickly realized what he meant. Two eight-year-old kids couldn’t do anything on their own.
So the real question was:
How did Chu Shuangjiang and Chu Shuangsheng come up with the idea of barging in here, yelling, fighting, even snatching things?
“Yeah.” Chu Peihan didn’t hide the truth from her. Besides, it wasn’t something he could hide. His uncle’s side really had gone too far.
If they had come themselves, that would’ve been one thing.
But sending two kids? That was just unacceptable.
“Yunhe, don’t worry. After we’re married, I swear I won’t let them take advantage of us again.”
“I believe you.” Jiang Yunhe shrugged, calm and honest. Even if he were willing, she wasn’t. In fact, not only was she unwilling, she planned to bring those two brats back.
Otherwise, left with that family, they were bound to be spoiled rotten.
She didn’t want Chu Peihan cleaning up after them like he did in their past life.
Oops—another small goal added to the list.
Jiang Yunhe didn’t share all her thoughts with him. After all, they weren’t married yet, and he was still struggling to take care of himself.
Bringing the kids back now would only add to his burden.
So she’d handle it herself.
Fortunately, it was just the two of them eating, so one chicken and a few vegetable dishes were enough. Soon, when the chicken was done stewing, she served it and set it aside.
Next, she heated some oil and made two dishes: vinegar-sautéed cabbage and pan-fried green beans.
By the time everything was ready, the entire courtyard was filled with a rich, mouthwatering aroma that drifted far into the distance.
Luckily, Chu Peihan lived in a remote area with no neighbors. Otherwise, someone nosy would definitely have shown up.
Chu Peihan sat there in a daze, and the strong aroma snapped him back to attention—he was pleasantly surprised.
He knew Jiang Yunhe was capable, but he hadn’t expected her to be this capable!
Even though his eyesight wasn’t good, just sitting there, he could feel the food’s allure—his fingers itched to start eating, and his appetite surged.
Compared to the stuff he’d been eating lately, this was a feast. Honestly, what he had before could barely pass for pig slop.
Jiang Yunhe kept smiling the whole time. It seemed like only when she was beside him could she feel a rare sense of peace.
“All right, let’s eat!”
“I’m coming.” Chu Peihan was in a great mood. Whether or not she had just confessed to him, he decided to take it as such. Yep—thick-skinned it is!
At that moment, his entire face lit up with joy.
Especially this way of interacting—it was exactly like a pair of sweet newlyweds.
The weather was still warm, so they ate in the courtyard instead of going indoors. Jiang Yunhe kept sneaking glances at him as she ate.
Chu Peihan felt a little self-conscious under her gaze and kept praising her cooking skills.
His compliments were endless and smooth.
Jiang Yunhe was overjoyed. Back at the Jiang family, she’d cooked countless meals like a servant, but never once received a kind word or even a decent look.
In contrast, Chu Peihan not only appreciated her efforts but was also considerate of her feelings. The difference was stark.
After finishing their meal and putting down their chopsticks, Jiang Yunhe immediately insisted on taking him to the county.
Chu Peihan was hesitant—not because he minded, but because he didn’t want to see her exhausted or disappointed over his issues.
That would break his heart.
“I’ll go with you. Whatever you want to do, I’ll support it. Just… can we not go to the hospital?”
“No.” Jiang Yunhe was firm. When she saw he still resisted, she said directly, “Chu Peihan, to me, nothing is more important than you.”
“Oh.” Hearing her open and earnest concern, the tiny bit of rebellion in Chu Peihan’s heart vanished completely. Forget it, forget it.
If he kept pushing, even he would want to smack himself.
I mean… how could he trample on a woman’s genuine feelings?
Without another word, Jiang Yunhe grabbed his arm and headed out the door. Her movement was so natural, as if she’d done it hundreds of times before—no hesitation at all.
Halfway down the road, she suddenly remembered…
She forgot to bring money!
