Chapter 38: Eradicate the Roots—That’s the Hard Truth
Sun Meilin’s eyelid twitched at Jiang Yunhe’s words, and a sense of dread grew in her heart. She had a strong feeling that if this continued, it would all end in disaster sooner or later.
She even thought that what Jiang Yunhe said might be true—not just baseless fearmongering. But then again, what did a little wretch like her know?!
Maybe she just couldn’t stand seeing her treat Chenglong well, and said all that just to provoke her. If she fell for it, then she really would be doomed.
Jiang Yunhe didn’t need to open her eyes to know what Sun Meilin was thinking, and found it ridiculous.
If Sun Meilin couldn’t even see through this, then it was no surprise that in her past life, Jiang Chenglong ended up getting his legs broken and dumped at the doorstep, becoming a cripple for life.
Thinking of that, her gaze toward him grew less irritated.
All in all, she just had to sit back and enjoy the show—no need to intervene at all.
Jiang Chenglong thought Jiang Yunhe was just provoking him, going against him for no reason. In his mind, she was an illiterate fool who didn’t understand anything.
“Jiang Yunhe, stop trying to sow discord! What I do has nothing to do with you. You’re like a dog meddling in things you shouldn’t. Of all the things you could’ve done wrong, how could you take Sister Mianmian to a place like that?!”
“What kind of place?” Jiang Yunhe asked knowingly, already piecing things together. She had wondered why Fang Mianmian hadn’t come back yet.
Now it was all clear.
This useless trash Jiang Chenglong did nothing worthwhile day after day, but when it came to causing her trouble, he was an expert. It was like he couldn’t live without giving her a hard time.
Little bastard!
Jiang Chenglong’s face turned beet red, but he didn’t say anything. He held his tongue, thinking he couldn’t drag Fang Mianmian down with him. His own reputation didn’t matter.
But Sister Mianmian was like a fairy. She shouldn’t be sullied, shouldn’t be involved in any of this.
Jiang Yunhe, on the other hand, looked full of scheming and completely shameless. Just the sight of her made his blood boil.
“Jiang Yunhe, you better pray you kill me, or I swear I won’t let you go!”
“Heh. I don’t need your forgiveness,” Jiang Yunhe replied with a look of disdain. “But since you’re so ready to be killed by me, if I don’t kill you, wouldn’t it look like I’m scared of you?”
“……”
Jiang Chenglong began to feel that something was seriously wrong. He had a sense of impending doom.
And he was right.
Because without warning, Jiang Yunhe kicked him. Just one casual kick, and he went from squatting to sprawled on the ground, curled up.
Then came kick after kick, each one full of pent-up rage.
He had thought a woman wouldn’t have much strength and wouldn’t pose any threat. Clearly, he had completely underestimated her. She was beating him with the clear intent to kill.
At first, Jiang Dazhuang didn’t move, acting like he didn’t care. But when he saw Jiang Chenglong being beaten to such a state, he finally stepped forward.
“Jiang Yunhe, stop it!”
“Stop? When I was the one being beaten, did you ever tell them to stop?” Jiang Yunhe stared him down, full of aggression.
Do you even have a sense of shame?
In the past, Sun Meilin had beaten her countless times right in front of him. Jiang Dazhuang never did anything—in fact, he’d sit nearby smoking and drinking, treating it like a show.
But now that it was Jiang Chenglong’s turn, suddenly he couldn’t take it?
Jiang Dazhuang grew impatient, stiff-necked as he said, “How can that be the same? You and he are different—you know that.”
Jiang Yunhe: “What difference? Aren’t we both your kids?”
Jiang Dazhuang: “He’s a boy, you’re a girl.”
Jiang Yunhe: “……”
What a shamelessly righteous answer. Incredible.
Jiang Dazhuang didn’t feel the least bit ashamed. That’s just how he thought. To him, Jiang Yunhe’s feelings didn’t matter. Whatever happened to her was irrelevant.
But Jiang Chenglong—he was different!
He was the one who’d carry on the Jiang family line. He couldn’t be broken.
Seeing that Jiang Yunhe wasn’t backing down, he stepped closer, clearly about to lose his temper.
“Let him go. Whatever demands you have, just name them.”
“I want to marry Chu Peihan. Plus, I want a dowry of 300 yuan—not a cent less.” Jiang Yunhe wasn’t bringing this up for the first time. She had already warned Sun Meilin.
But she wouldn’t listen. What could she do?
In the end, it was Jiang Dazhuang who held the power in this household. If he firmly opposed her marriage, then it really would be a problem.
Jiang Dazhuang was stunned. He felt like his ears were buzzing. Had he heard her right? Was this really the same Jiang Yunhe?
Wasn’t she always timid and silent in front of him?
Had she gone crazy?
What was she thinking?!
“You and Wang Tiejiang…”
“After what Wang Tiejiang did with Widow Liu, you still want me to marry him?” Jiang Yunhe squinted at him and shot back. Even as she told herself not to stoop to their level—they weren’t worth it—she still felt wronged.
But that’s fine. At least she could let out some of that frustration.
So—
Jiang Yunhe raised her foot again and kicked Jiang Chenglong hard!
Wasn’t he their precious darling? Then let them watch their precious darling get his ass handed to him. The more it hurt them, the happier she felt.
Jiang Chenglong screamed, “Ahhh! Jiang Yunhe, I’ll kill you! I swear I’ll kill you!”
Jiang Yunhe: “Spare me the threats, Jiang Chenglong. You’re already saying you want to kill me—so why would I ever let you live?”
Eradicate the roots. Leave no future trouble.
That’s the hard truth.
Jiang Chenglong was speechless, curled up like a quail, suddenly realizing a lot of things—like Jiang Yunhe wasn’t nearly as easy to bully as he thought.
And that she really wanted to kill him.
Jiang Dazhuang didn’t think her demands were unreasonable. Watching Jiang Yunhe vent her anger, he said bluntly, “Go on, beat him all you want. Even if you kill him today, it won’t change anything. Your marriage to Wang Tiejiang is already set in stone.”
Jiang Yunhe: “……”
So this was the reality.
A daughter wasn’t worth as much as a son. A son wasn’t worth as much as money.
Suddenly, Jiang Yunhe felt tired and disillusioned. What was there to say to a family of lunatics? No matter what she said, in the end, all it did was make her angry.
She stepped back a few paces.
Jiang Chenglong immediately scrambled up from the ground. He had wanted to charge at her again, but suddenly felt cowardly and instead darted behind Sun Meilin, seeking protection.
Sun Meilin’s eyes darkened. She quickly dusted off his clothes, full of worry and love, clearly taking his side.
Jiang Yunhe didn’t spare them a glance. She simply said,
“Then let’s change the game. I’m cutting all ties. From this day on, I have nothing to do with this family.”
Jiang Dazhuang: “Impossible!”
He still planned to sell her. How could he let her break free now? If she walked away just like that, then hadn’t he raised her all those years for nothing?
Jiang Yunhe looked him straight in the eyes and suddenly let out a light laugh.
“I’m not asking for your permission. I’m informing you. From now on, we are completely severed. Your life, your death, your fortune, your poverty—it has nothing to do with me. And as for me—you don’t need to concern yourselves with me ever again.”
