Chapter 8: Jiang Yunhe, Are You Trying to Drive Me to My Death?
Jiang Dazhuang raised an eyebrow, his expression turning increasingly stern.
Jiang Yunhe feigned surprise, her tone both sweet and sarcastic, “Dad, I was just casually speaking. Don’t take it seriously. But… my mother never really liked me, and you know that, hehe.”
Jiang Dazhuang’s suspicion deepened. “That’s true!”
Sun Meilin had never liked her eldest daughter—always scolding or hitting her. So why would she suddenly bring her a plate of scrambled eggs today?
Normally, she treated those few eggs like precious treasure.
Jiang Yunhe continued, “Ah, Dad, I’ve never eaten anything this fancy or nutritious. You know that, and so does Mom. But—”
She didn’t even need to finish the sentence.
With a loud slam, Jiang Dazhuang pounded the table and turned to grab the ox-whip. If he didn’t beat that vile woman to death today, he’d feel ashamed as a man. What if one day he got poisoned without even knowing it?
Sun Meilin was full of hatred!
Looking at Jiang Yunhe’s expression of cold anger, she cursed inwardly—this damned girl must be possessed. Otherwise, how could she do something like this?
“Jiang Yunhe, are you trying to drive me to my death?!”
“Dear, don’t listen to her nonsense! Why would I poison you? I just thought she’s about to be sold off, so I gave her something good to eat.”
“Oh? Then why didn’t you tell me about it?!” Jiang Dazhuang hesitated a little but had no doubt about the idea of selling off his daughter.
Jiang Yunhe looked on coldly, her expression complex.
Ha! She already knew this family was unreliable, but seeing it with her own eyes still chilled her heart. They were her biological parents, for heaven’s sake! Even if they favored sons over daughters, how could they be this cruel?
The thought made her feel even worse.
But no matter—if she was feeling bad, she’d make them feel worse.
Just then, she spotted chickens running toward her and said in mock shock, “Dad! Look! There was poison! Look at those chickens—they’re all collapsing after eating it!”
The chickens, previously energetic, were now lying on the ground twitching, looking absolutely pitiful.
Even Sun Meilin was a little shocked. She really didn’t…
Smack!
Jiang Dazhuang whipped her hard. He didn’t care what schemes this woman was up to—if he didn’t teach her a lesson now, she’d only get worse.
With that thought, his strikes became even more brutal.
Jiang Yunhe calmly stepped back a few paces and watched coldly. They were both selfish to the core—a perfect match.
Sun Meilin didn’t dare delay and ran for her life!
She moved so fast you’d think she trained for it. Well, if she hadn’t, she really would have been beaten to death.
Jiang Dazhuang chased right after her, waving his whip like he was herding livestock—not even treating her like a human.
And he didn’t think anything of it.
Jiang Yunhe leisurely watched the drama. When it ended, she turned and went back to her room. She needed some rest. As for the food Sun Meilin had made…
Yeah, not eating it was the right choice.
It wasn’t worth eating anyway.
She lay on the heated bed and, with a thought, entered her personal space.
In the spiritual spring, the Hongli was happily bouncing around like it wanted praise. Though it couldn’t do much, knocking out a few chickens? Easy work.
Jiang Yunhe patted its head and asked with a smile, “Can you tell what kind of drug was in the scrambled eggs?”
The Hongli replied, “Probably some kind of knockout drug—not a lethal poison. Otherwise, the space would’ve issued a warning.”
Jiang Yunhe: “……”
Oh ho! A newly discovered feature!
Her spatial dimension really was a treasure—multi-functional, making her rich and keeping her safe.
Best of all, the spring water could strengthen her body. Excellent. Very excellent.
The Hongli explained that although it was cultivating merit, it genuinely didn’t want to see Jiang Yunhe get hurt.
She was important to him.
After tidying up a bit, Jiang Yunhe lay down in the courtyard within the space and rested her eyes. Once she came out, she wouldn’t feel tired at all. In fact, she’d feel lighter. Why not enjoy it?
She stayed like that until the moon was high in the sky.
When she finally woke, the outside world was silent. Who knew where Jiang Dazhuang and Sun Meilin had run off to?
Jiang Yunhe got up, found a thick coat, tidied herself, and prepared to head out.
The widow at the west end of the village—
She hadn’t forgotten her.
She had no grudge against Widow Liu. So why had the woman tried to harm her?
Not that she trusted Sun Meilin’s word, but she did know that Widow Liu and Wang Tiejiang had a long-standing “relationship.”
In her previous life, even after she married Wang Tiejiang, the two never broke things off.
Wang Tiejiang had his heart completely set on the widow and let her control him utterly. He never took advantage of Jiang Yunhe, luckily. Otherwise, she’d have died of disgust.
Now, under the moonlight, Jiang Yunhe quietly made her way to the west side of the village and stood outside Widow Liu’s courtyard. As she approached, she heard a series of obscene sounds.
Widow Liu let out waves of lustful cries, growing louder and louder with no shame or fear of being heard—as if she wanted the whole village to know.
How convenient.
A smirk played across Jiang Yunhe’s lips as she moved closer to the back window and peeked inside. There, a short, chubby man was huffing and puffing atop Widow Liu, pretending to be fierce.
Pah!
Shameless bastard.
The longer she watched, the more nauseated and disgusted she became. Her resentment toward Sun Meilin grew even stronger. There was no way Sun Meilin didn’t know about this.
She probably knew exactly what was going on—and simply wanted to throw her into the fire pit.
No. She couldn’t just sit around and do nothing…
Jiang Yunhe turned to leave and think of a way to eliminate the two of them, but—bang!
“You—mmph mmph mmph—”
“Shh, it’s me!”
Chu Peihan pulled her into his arms protectively and whispered into her ear. Realizing his gesture, he instinctively loosened his hold, feeling embarrassed, his face heating up—he hadn’t meant to be so forward.
But when Jiang Yunhe realized it was him, she leaned into his arms, not budging at all.
You’ve got to be kidding—he came to her of his own accord, of course she had to seize the opportunity! No way she was letting go.
But wait… wasn’t he supposed to be blind?
Then how had he followed her so quietly without being noticed—at night, no less?
Even she had to be cautious walking in the dark to avoid falling.
