Yu Yan’s eyelids twitched. “Stay here and don’t go out. I’ll check the surveillance footage.”
“Alright,” He Zhiyu gritted his teeth and scanned the lobby, looking at everyone as if they were the pervert.
“Could it be someone from our company?” Song Yunjing gasped.
Minghua had a lot of employees, not to mention the subsidiaries beneath it. The person could be in the country but still manage to get an overseas IP to send messages and make calls, indicating that this person had some capability. It could rule out interns and young employees, and even allow them to tentatively target the middle to senior management within the company.
Minghua’s middle and senior management had a balanced male-to-female ratio. Even if half of them could be ruled out, it would still take some effort to investigate.
If the phone had a recording, they could compare the voice with the police.
Of course, these assumptions were all based on the premise that the harasser was someone from within the company.
But aside from Minghua employees, the resort also had its own staff.
It couldn’t be ruled out that the harasser had bribed someone from He Zhiyu’s circle for information.
No matter how you looked at it, this was a significant task.
Yu Yan gave some instructions and then called Shen Yuchen.
The moment the call was answered, he saw Shen Yuchen enter the lobby.
After a brief explanation, Shen Yuchen took him to the surveillance room.
The two of them watched the footage along the path that He Zhiyu had taken, but they found nothing.
Shen Yuming looked at the message sent by the bodyguard and spoke, “The security says no suspicious persons have entered.”
“Could it be someone from our company?” Yu Yan gasped, feeling goosebumps rise all over his body. “Or is it someone from the resort’s staff?”
The feeling was incredibly uncomfortable, like a slippery, slimy snake lurking in the shadows, staring at you, occasionally flicking its tongue to scare you, but you couldn’t see it.
Shen Yuming didn’t respond. “Don’t wander around. I’ll have someone investigate the resort.”
Yu Yan realized, “You suspect someone has infiltrated?”
“It’s possible.” Shen Yuming’s eyes darkened slightly as he quickly sent a message to Zhao Chi.
If it were someone from the company or hotel staff, they probably wouldn’t be this bold.
He Zhiyu was a small celebrity, and his itinerary was likely exposed. If someone knew about the company’s annual meeting, they could have sneaked into the resort and hidden.
After watching the footage, the two of them returned to the lobby. Yu Yan had planned to sit next to He Zhiyu, but Shen Yuchen stopped him.
With no other choice, he messaged He Zhiyu and gave him a few instructions.
Once everyone was gathered, the annual meeting officially began. The host lightened the mood a bit before jumping straight into the much-anticipated raffle session.
Everyone had a raffle ticket with a different number. If you drew the winning number, you won a prize.
Yu Yan asked Shen Yuchen, “Brother, do you have a raffle ticket?”
“Yes,” Shen Yuming opened the electronic ticket on his phone.
“Do you only have one?”
“Everyone only gets one.”
Yu Yan said, “Oh,” and turned his attention to the big screen.
The feeling of waiting was very strange. In Yu Yan’s usually uneventful life, he rarely experienced this, so he was particularly excited.
The raffle started with the smallest prizes, those with the most winners. In less than ten minutes, Yu Yan won the latest gaming console.
He examined the console for a while and realized that it could only be used with screen mirroring, which left him feeling a little disappointed.
“I’m so lucky to win a gaming console.”
Shen Yuming reminded him, “The planning department purchased a thousand of these gaming consoles.”
“I’m one of the lucky one in a thousand!” Yu Yan said, holding the console and not wanting to let it go.
Shen Yuming: “…”
Before he could respond, the host’s excited voice rang out across the hall, announcing the winners of the new-energy cars and full-house smart home setups.
Yu Yan glanced at the stage and noticed that most of the winners were young faces.
“Why is it all young people winning? This couldn’t be the company’s way of keeping people, right?” Yu Yan nudged Shen Yuming with his shoulder.
Shen Yuming glanced at him. “It’s a mathematical issue. The probability of someone who already won winning again is lower, so it can ensure that most people get a prize.”
Yu Yan suddenly understood. It turned out that he won the gaming console because most people at the company had already won.
While chatting, Yu Yan asked about He Zhiyu again, wondering if there had been any new developments.
Not sure if He Zhiyu was also concerned with the raffle, but there was no reply for a while.
Just as Yu Yan wasn’t paying much attention, Jian Ran sent a message in the group.
[Jian Ran: [Image]]
[Jian Ran: Found him.]
The photo showed He Zhiyu chasing a man in black. The man was wrapped tightly, with no identifying features visible, but he was short, probably only about 1.6 meters tall. There weren’t many men of that height in the north, so he should be easy to find.
[Yu Yan: Don’t chase him, call the police.]
[Jian Ran: It’s too late. He Ge already went after him. I couldn’t keep up.]
This really was troublesome.
Yu Yan’s eyelids twitched again. He stood up abruptly, causing his chair to scrape across the floor.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Yuming asked.
“Found the person. He already chased after them, I’ll go take a look.”
Shen Yuming’s gaze darkened, and he immediately called Zhao Chi to arrange for someone to chase.
The pervert seemed not to have scouted the area in advance, unaware of the resort’s layout. After circling around several times, he couldn’t escape.
When Yu Yan arrived at the riverbank, the person immediately jumped into the water and swiftly swam to the opposite shore. Without hesitation, He Zhiyu followed and jumped in too.
The pervert was wearing light clothing and quickly reached the other side, but He Zhiyu, wearing a down jacket, faced resistance, falling behind significantly.
“He Zhiyu, come back.”
Beyond that point was the village’s territory, surrounded by several large mountains, making it difficult to pursue.
Moreover, if the person really was the pervert, even if He Zhiyu caught up, it would be of no use and could even result in injury.
He Zhiyu splashed around in the water for a bit, and upon realizing he couldn’t catch up, reluctantly swam back.
“Damn, I almost caught that perverted bastard! How did he get away?”
Yu Yan raised his eyebrows slightly, his gaze shifting toward where the person had disappeared. “Did you see? They had long hair.”
“Ah? Is she a girl?” This hit a blind spot in He Zhiyu’s knowledge. “Isn’t she the pervert? Then why is she dressed like that? And why is she running?”
“Not sure if it’s a man or a woman, the police will investigate. Don’t act like a hero.”
He Zhiyu’s clothes were soaked through, and even when he spoke, his teeth were chattering, but he didn’t stop bragging about his heroic actions.
“Alright, go back, take a shower, and change. Don’t catch a cold.” Yu Yan urged repeatedly.
To stop He Zhiyu, Yu Yan stepped into the mud, soaking his pants, which clung uncomfortably to his calves.
They were running a bit faster, and just a few steps later, they encountered Shen Yuming and others who had rushed over.
Song Yunji’s eyelids twitched, and she couldn’t help but speak up, “He Zhiyu, are you missing a brain cell? It’s the middle of winter, and you jumped into the river. Luckily, it hasn’t frozen these past few days.”
“I just wanted to catch him,” He Zhiyu said, blowing warm air into his red hands. “To rid the world of evil, it’s everyone’s duty.”
“Alright, go back to your room and wash up,” Yu Yan urged again.
The company’s annual team-building event would last for a few days at the resort, with accommodations arranged at nearby hotels.
However, due to the large number of people, many were sharing double or triple rooms, so it wasn’t too awkward for people who knew each other to stay together.
Yu Yan, He Zhiyu, and Jian Ran were sharing a triple room, but there was only one bathroom, so when He Zhiyu went to wash up, Yu Yan would have to wait a little longer.
But fortunately, his pants weren’t soaking too badly, so waiting a bit was fine.
While he was thinking this, a low, calm voice suddenly came from beside him, “Want to shower in my room?”
“Huh?”
Yu Yan was still thinking about the black-clad person who had escaped and didn’t respond immediately.
Shen Yuming’s gaze landed on his wet pants, repeating, “Do you want to shower in my room?”
“Sure, thank you, bro.” Yu Yan didn’t hesitate and agreed right away.
Shen Yuming’s room was the best suite in the hotel. Besides the bedroom, there was also a study, and the bathroom was inside the bedroom.
The shampoo and body wash on the shelf were the same brand as Shen Yuming’s at home, unlike the typical hotel offerings. It seemed like they had been specially prepared.
Yu Yan was not polite at all and used Shen Yuming’s shampoo and body wash.
After washing up, Yu Yan suddenly remembered that his luggage was downstairs in another room. He just put on a bathrobe and went out, as the hotel had heating, so it wasn’t cold.
Shen Yuming was sitting on the sofa, texting. He was probably discussing security matters.
“How did the gaming console get here? Did you bring it up for me, bro?” Yu Yan was pleasantly surprised and immediately sat cross-legged on the floor, unboxing it.
There was a thick woolen blanket on the floor, and he didn’t feel cold sitting cross-legged.
Shen Yuming glanced at him briefly and replied, “The staff brought it up.”
Yu Yan responded with an “Oh,” and quickly opened the packaging. Then he suddenly asked, “So why didn’t they bring my luggage up?”
“I don’t know,” Shen Yuming said, his gaze lingering on his pale collarbone for a moment before looking away.
Yu Yan had never used this kind of gaming console before, so he began reading the manual word by word. Meanwhile, Shen Yuming helped him set up the console to display on the TV.
Once it was set up, Yu Yan was about to choose a racing game to de-stress when his phone suddenly rang.
Yu Yan glanced at the screen, seeing that it was a video call initiated by Yu Chen in the “Safe and Healthy Family (4)” group chat.
After answering the call, he propped the phone up on a tissue box.
“Bro, why are you calling me for a video chat at this time?”
“I just heard you guys caught someone at the resort. Mom and Dad are worried about you,” Yu Chen explained.
It seemed that the person who had been following He Zhiyu had been caught.
To avoid worrying his family, Yu Yan didn’t reveal too much. “I’m fine, don’t worry, bro.”
“Good to hear. But… why is there someone in your room?” Yu Chen suddenly sat up straight, his tone serious.
Yu Yan looked closely at the screen and realized it was Shen Yuming filling up his water bottle at the dispenser. Since he was sitting cross-legged on the floor, all Yu Chen could see on the screen were Shen Yuming’s long legs.
“It’s Shen Yuming. I just used his bathroom to take a shower,” Yu Yan casually replied.
When Yu Chen heard it was Shen Yuming, his furrowed brows finally relaxed.
“You… you’re wearing just a bathrobe after your shower?”
“Yeah.”
“Be mindful of your image!”
Yu Yan didn’t mind at all, even changing his sitting position for comfort. “We’re both men, what’s the big deal? When I was at the orphanage, I ran around naked with a bunch of other kids.”
Shen Yuming slightly furrowed his brows, distracted for a moment. He forgot to watch the cup, and the boiling water overflowed, burning his fingers red.
