The desk, chairs, sofa, and countless documents that were originally in the office were all gone!
The office was empty, with only a trash can left.
Yu Yan stared for a couple of seconds, coming to a baffling conclusion, “Did I get fired?”
Is the Yu family going bankrupt?
Is my brother’s influence no longer useful?
I didn’t receive any notice…
Just then, Mr. Li happened to come over. “Xiao Yan, your office has been moved. I forgot to notify you.”
“Moved where?” Yu Yan’s eyelids twitched, a bad premonition lingering in his mind.
“Upstairs. Let Xiao Man take you there.”
After briefly explaining, Mr. Li returned to his office.
Yu Yan, his face ashen, followed Xiao Man out of Xinghai. They took the elevator all the way up, and it stopped at…
The office next to Shen Yu Ming’s!
These floors housed the headquarters of the Minghua Group. Besides Shen Yu Ming, they were filled with senior partners and members of the board of directors.
Otherwise, it was the CEO’s office, where Shen Yu Ming’s secretaries and assistants worked.
Yu Yan blinked twice and, in a confused tone, asked, “My office is here? Did you make a mistake?”
Xiao Man smiled politely, “No, it’s here.”
Has he really risen to the point of being on equal footing with Shen Yu Ming?
This office was smaller than the one he had in Xinghai, and it seemed like it had been specially partitioned off, separated from the adjacent office by frosted glass.
The decor was better, and even the comfort of the desk and chairs had been upgraded to a higher level.
Yu Yan sat in the leather chair, slowly spinning it to face the huge floor-to-ceiling window.
A beam of sunlight broke through the clouds and reflected off the glass, casting several beautiful orange hexagons.
Sitting here gave a feeling of being at a lofty height, and in a daze, Yu Yan felt like he had become a social elite, able to turn clouds into rain with a wave of his hand, casually commanding the weather and deciding multi-million-dollar deals with the slightest movement.
“Knock, knock, knock—”
“Ahem.” Yu Yan snapped back to reality. “Come in.”
Zhao Chi, Shen Yu Ming’s assistant, walked in, holding a document.
“Young Master Yu, after evaluation, the CEO’s office has approved a separate fund of 20 million for your investment.”
Yu Yan’s eyes suddenly widened, “20 million?”
“Yes, we need your signature to confirm.”
“Is it really this easy?”
Yu Yan had never worked in an office before. After graduating from high school, he worked handing out flyers, delivering food, and looking at materials. Later, because of his good looks, he was pulled into modeling and even did live-streaming to sell products.
Since he hadn’t been exposed to similar jobs before, he wasn’t familiar with the specific process for project applications. He only knew it was hard to get money, so he didn’t expect it to be so easy in Minghua.
Big companies are indeed different.
Zhao Chi slightly nodded and directly flipped to the signature page of the contract.
After signing, Yu Yan handed the contract over. “Is Brother Chen here? I want to invite him for a meal.”
“He has an important negotiation later, so he might not have time.”
“Okay then.” Yu Yan nodded, not saying anything else.
Zhao Chi took the document to the next office and handed it to Shen Yu Ming. “President Shen.”
Shen Yu Ming took the contract and casually flipped through it, seeing Yu Yan’s signature.
The handwriting wasn’t ugly or messy, but it lacked any flair.
Was he really signing without even looking at the contract, not knowing anything or just blindly trusting the company?
After putting the contract down, Shen Yu Ming slightly raised his head and looked at the one-way frosted glass. He tapped his fingers lightly on the desk.
Zhao Chi understood and slightly moved aside, following his gaze.
The one-way frosted glass wasn’t fully closed, so they could see what was happening in the office opposite, but the opposite side couldn’t see in.
Yu Yan, excited, threw a few punches in the air and then grabbed his phone to send a message.
Twenty million, and he’s this happy?
“President Shen, Young Master Yu contacted Director Fang of Shuoyang Entertainment last night. It seems like he’s trying to get Jian Ran a role in a TV series. The money might be for investment.”
“Have someone keep an eye on the money’s whereabouts.” Shen Yu Ming furrowed his brows slightly. “What’s Shen Mu Yang been up to lately?”
“The company has recently received several resource management projects, and the profits seem promising.”
Shen Yu Ming nodded slightly but didn’t say anything else.
As long as Shen Mu Yang didn’t bring his hands into the company, he didn’t mind what he did.
In the opposite office, Yu Yan was answering a call, still full of enthusiasm.
“President Shen, there’s a meeting at around 11 o’clock regarding the chip project with Chaoxing,” Zhao Chi handed over the schedule.
Shen Yu Ming glanced at the time. “No rush, let’s wait until Chaoxing has completed the preliminary project proposal before we meet.”
“Understood.” Before leaving, Zhao Chi glanced at the office next door. Yu Yan was already holding a bag of chips.
Minghua’s lunch break was from 11:30 to 1:30, with both lunch and rest during that time.
After being busy for a while, Shen Yu Ming checked his watch. It was already 11:45, and the chips in Yu Yan’s hands had been replaced by a wafer biscuit.
The new office environment was comfortable, and Yu Yan slouched in the chair, not wanting to get up. As it neared noon, he slowly got up and left to get lunch.
Just as he stepped out, the door of the office next door suddenly opened.
“Brother Chen, are you done with the meeting?” Yu Yan waved his hand.
“Meeting?”
“I was going to invite you to lunch just now, but Assistant Zhao said you had an important meeting and asked me not to disturb you.” Yu Yan pressed the elevator button.
They walked together to the cafeteria, and the hall was nearly empty.
This time, Yu Yan swiped his employee card and successfully treated Shen Yu Ming to a big pot meal with three meat dishes, two vegetable dishes, and one soup.
The meal was considered a success, though it was different from his expectations. They didn’t go to the Cantonese restaurant he had planned, and his goal had already been achieved before the meal. After over a week of planning, he ended up only treating Shen Yu Ming to a meal in the cafeteria, so Yu Yan felt a bit guilty.
Just as they began eating, Yu Yan received a call from Director Fang of Shuoyang Entertainment, inviting him to dinner on the weekend to discuss the project.
The project was for Jian Ran, so Yu Yan immediately messaged Jian Ran and invited him to join.
“What’s going on? Why so happy?” Shen Yu Ming lifted his gaze slightly, his deep eyes hiding a sharp edge.
Yu Yan chuckled twice before putting his phone away. “I showed Jian Ran a role, a quintessential black-and-white villain. I’ve arranged a detailed discussion with General Manager Fang, it’s almost settled.”
“Jian… Ran Ran?” Shen Yu Ming paused slightly in his actions.
“Yes, Jian Ran.” Yu Yan answered.
Shen Yu Ming came to his senses. “What kind of bar is it? Is it legitimate?”
Remembering his near-experience of being stripped at Que Ming last time, Yu Yan was silent for a moment.
“It’s a quiet bar.” Yu Yan paused for a second as he held his chopsticks. “Brother Chen, from what you’re saying, have you been to illegitimate places?”
Shen Yu Ming: “…”
“Really been there?”
“No.”
Yu Yan raised his eyebrows slightly. “Really? Never been?”
How could he not believe it?
Shen Yu Ming was 1.92 meters tall, a whole head taller than him, with a tall and straight posture, handsome looks, especially those narrow, deep eyes that were affectionate and tender. Staring at them for a few seconds could make anyone fall for him.
Someone like him, who looked like a heartbreaker, how could he not have been to those places?
“No.” Shen Yu Ming maintained his usual expression, knowingly asking, “Have you been?”
Yu Yan shook his head vigorously. “Of course not, just last time I was tricked by Zhang Yuan into going.”
Shen Yu Ming seemed to recall something, chuckling lightly.
Yu Yan looked around and lowered his voice. “Brother, I have a question for you.”
“What is it?”
“Has my brother been to those… illegitimate places?”
The original book was full of conflicts among wealthy families and business battles, with no mention of these matters. But Yu Yan was curious, his gossiping heart burning.
Shen Yu Ming chuckled softly. “I don’t know. Why don’t you ask him?”
“I don’t dare.” Yu Yan shook his head.
After lunch, Yu Yan ordered a milk tea and also got one for Shen Yu Ming.
He waited downstairs for the milk tea and didn’t go upstairs with Shen Yu Ming.
After getting the milk tea, he went straight to Shen Yu Ming’s office. He knocked on the door and waited a while before hearing a response.
Yu Yan handed the milk tea over. “Brother Chen, are you busy?”
“Not busy.” Shen Yu Ming put the remote control into the drawer.
Yu Yan walked around the office and found that Shen Yu Ming’s office was not only larger than his but also had a separate rest room.
He turned and knocked on the frosted glass. The sound was muffled and heavy. The glass was thick, and it seemed to have a hollow layer, probably for soundproofing.
Shen Yu Ming’s gaze flickered. “Are you interested in this glass?”
“No, I was just curious why they used glass to separate the office. Why not just build a wall?” Yu Yan sat back on the couch.
“Building a wall requires renovation and has formaldehyde.”
Yu Yan suddenly understood. “That’s true. Installing glass is definitely better. When I first entered the office this morning, I thought it was a mirror. It scared me.”
“What’s wrong with mirrors?” Shen Yu Ming raised his head.
“Doesn’t the internet say many hotels install one-way mirrors? So people on the other side of the mirror can spy on those looking into the mirror. It’s really scary.” Yu Yan shrugged.
Shen Yu Ming’s long fingers pressed on the document, applying slight pressure, his tone calm. “Is that so?”
“Yeah, and some people even add cameras behind the one-way mirror. It’s really perverted.” Yu Yan said indignantly.
Shen Yu Ming paused, subconsciously looking at the camera in the corner of the room, without saying anything.
Seeing the time, Yu Yan yawned. “I’m going to take a nap.”
“Go ahead.”
The office door opened and closed again. Shen Yu Ming took the remote control from his drawer and turned on the switch for the frosted glass.
