Chapter 47: What Exactly is Tang Ying Plotting?
Qingsong Courtyard.
Knowing that Tang Song was off duty today, Tang Ying brought over a food box early in the morning.
When Tang Ying entered the room, Tang Song was adjusting his clothes in front of a bronze mirror. Seeing her, his expression immediately darkened.
“What are you doing here?”
Tang Ying’s eyes flickered slightly, and she gave a light laugh.
“Today is your day off, Brother, so I thought I’d make your favorite water chestnut cake.”
As she spoke, she took the food box from Yiyun’s hands and pulled out a stack of water chestnut cakes.
Tang Song turned around and glanced coldly at the cakes on the table, snorting.
“What are you trying to pull this time?”
“What do you mean, Brother? I just saw that you’ve been working hard lately and made your favorite cakes especially for you. Why does it sound like I’ve done something wrong?” Tang Ying pouted unhappily at his harsh tone.
But Tang Song wasn’t buying her act. Narrowing his eyes at her, he said directly,
“Tell me the truth. What’s going on between you and Prince Yu?”
He got straight to the point with his sister.
Tang Ying’s eyes flickered again.
“What do you mean ‘what’s going on’?”
Seeing her play dumb, Tang Song snorted again.
“Don’t act clueless. What kind of relationship do you have with him? And was the situation with Rong’er also your doing?”
Tang Ying swallowed nervously and quickly said,
“Brother, why are you wronging me again? Do you think I would harm Rong’er? The one who harmed her was Tang Mi!”
Tang Song didn’t believe her.
“If it weren’t for you instructing her to do those things, do you think she could’ve thought them up herself?”
He knew his siblings well, Rong’er wasn’t that clever, but Tang Ying always liked to use others as pawns.
Being seen through by Tang Song made Tang Ying blink uneasily.
“What’s the point in talking about this now? Isn’t the most important thing getting Rong’er back?”
“You’d better think of a way to get her back. You’re the one who got her into this mess,” Tang Song said bluntly.
After being hit with his accusations again and again, Tang Ying’s face darkened with anger. But for the sake of her plan, she forced down her fury and said,
“I have a way to get Rong’er back, but you have to help me.”
“What way?” Tang Song looked at her suspiciously.
Tang Ying immediately leaned in close and whispered in his ear.
After listening, Tang Song narrowed his eyes at her.
“I’ll help you, but you must guarantee Rong’er’s return.”
Tang Ying quickly promised,
“Don’t worry, Brother. As long as we follow the plan, Rong’er will definitely come back.”
Mingchun Courtyard.
After accompanying the Old Madam for breakfast, Tang Mi saw that the Qin family had arrived. Tang Ying wasn’t there, but surprisingly, Tang Song was.
“Greetings, Grandmother.”
Both she and Tang Song bowed in greeting.
“Song’er, you’re back,” the Old Madam said. She didn’t like Qin Shi, but she still regarded her eldest grandson favorably.
“I’m off duty today, so I came to spend time with you,” Tang Song replied with a smile.
“Good, good,” the Old Madam nodded repeatedly and then asked,
“Have you eaten yet?”
“We just did,” Qin Shi quickly answered.
“Then bring out the tea and snacks,” the Old Madam instructed Nanny Gui.
“Yes, ma’am,” Nanny Gui responded and went to prepare.
Once they were seated, Qin Shi smiled and said,
“The Qin family has consulted the almanac. The wedding will be scheduled for the end of next month, on the eighteenth of September.”
The Old Madam’s expression darkened at the mention of Tang Ying’s marriage, and her frown deepened at the chosen date.
“Why the eighteenth of September? That’s the anniversary of Yishi’s death.”
Tang Mi also furrowed her brows and stared intently at Qin Shi and the others.
What exactly are they plotting?
Knowing how much the Old Madam valued Tang Yishi, Qin Shi hurriedly put on a smile and explained,
“I told them the date wasn’t appropriate, but the Qin family insisted there were no better days for the rest of the year. They said it’s auspicious and not a problem. They even called it a ‘collision of joy’.”
Tang Mi almost laughed out loud at the nonsense.
A ‘collision of joy’? How shameless of them to come up with that.
But the fact that they dared to schedule the wedding on her father’s death anniversary, what were they truly after?
The Old Madam was immediately enraged and slammed the table.
“You believe that nonsense? Have you lost your mind? Don’t tell me there’s not a single good date in the whole second half of the year! And even if there isn’t, wait until next year or the year after! Can’t wait even half a year? Are you that desperate to push your daughter into the fire pit?”
Tang Song remained expressionless. He didn’t care about Tang Ying’s marriage.
Tang Ying was clever and never suffered losses. Their mother doted on her and was eager for her to marry well. The Qin family probably didn’t even meet their standards. Whatever schemes they were cooking up, he couldn’t be bothered.
Qin Shi, after being scolded so harshly, didn’t dare get angry. She kept smiling obsequiously.
“Mother, the two children truly like each other, and the Qin family wants an early wedding. Why not just let it happen? If we delay until next year, it might affect Ying’er’s reputation, maybe even hurt Mi’er’s as well.”
She didn’t just bring up Tang Ying’s reputation, she dragged Tang Mi down with her too.
The Old Madam’s face instantly turned stormy.
Using the Qin family to threaten me now?!
Qin Shi glanced at Tang Song, prompting him to finally speak.
“Grandmother, since younger sister’s wedding and elder sister’s coming-of-age ceremony are both coming up next month, they’ll both conflict with Father’s death anniversary. Why don’t we just hold the memorial service early this month? That way it won’t clash with anything.”
The Old Madam thought this suggestion made sense and nodded slowly.
“That could work. Then for the service…”
Before she could finish, Tang Song added,
“This year is the tenth anniversary of Father’s death. The memorial must be done properly. I think White Horse Temple would be perfect, its incense offerings are abundant, and the abbot is someone you know well. He’ll surely give us extra attention. What do you think?”
The Old Madam was very satisfied with how seriously Tang Song treated Yishi’s memorial.
“White Horse Temple is indeed a good choice.”
She frequently visited White Horse Temple for prayer and was familiar with the abbot. The incense was strong there, which would be good for Yishi.
She turned to Tang Mi.
“What do you think, Mi’er?”
Since it concerned Yishi, it was important to hear the girl’s opinion.
Qin Shi and Tang Song also turned to look at her.
Tang Mi cast a deep glance at them.
So all this talk was just to get me to go to White Horse Temple. It must be part of Prince Yu’s plan.
Taking a deep breath, she smiled.
“Since Father’s memorial clashes with my sister’s wedding, we’ll hold it early. I have no objections.”
They had set everything up so she couldn’t say no.
Seeing her agree, Qin Shi couldn’t help but smile triumphantly.
I knew she wouldn’t refuse.
