Chapter 17
“Ugh.”
Having to explain again, Ji Nuannuan cleared her throat.
“I’m officially notifying you — I’m not getting a divorce.”
There was a long silence on the other end.
Just as Ji Nuannuan held the phone, confused, Shen Wenyue’s voice suddenly blasted through the speaker.
“Ji Nuannuan! Your brain finally started working again!”
“Hehe, my brain has always worked fine.”
“Bullshit! If your brain really worked, how could you have been obsessed with that playboy for so long?”
“I seriously suspected Wei Yang cast a spell on you. Couldn’t you see what a scumbag he was?”
Shen Wenyue showed no mercy in exposing Ji Nuannuan’s past stupidity.
“Aiyo, my dear Yueyue, can we not bring up those painful memories?” Ji Nuannuan chose to avoid the topic of her past blindness.
“I seriously don’t know how your brain functions. You were even ready to cut ties with me over those two. I was so furious with you!”
Clearly, Shen Wenyue hadn’t let go of her anger.
In her previous life, Ji Nuannuan couldn’t tell right from wrong. Just because Shen Wenyue had warned her multiple times that Wei Yang was a scumbag and Ji Xinxin was evil, she had threatened to end their friendship.
Thinking about that, Ji Nuannuan smiled sweetly and said:
“I was wrong, please don’t be mad anymore.”
“Me, mad? If I were really mad, would I have called you first?”
“I knew it! Yueyue is the best!”
Hearing Shen Wenyue’s words, Ji Nuannuan’s eyes brimmed with tears.
She truly had been foolish — her grandmother, Fu Jinghan, Yueyue — they had all treated her so well. But in her moments of despair, she believed a single word from Wei Yang and pushed everyone away.
Whenever she thought of that, Ji Nuannuan felt deeply grateful that heaven had given her a second chance.
“What are you thinking about?”
“Huh? What did you say?” Ji Nuannuan snapped out of it.
“I said, Grandma told me you’re coming back in a few days. Is that true, or were you just trying to comfort her?”
“I’m really coming back. Once I do, I’m coming straight to see you.”
“Hmph, that’s more like it.”
At the same time, Shen Wenyue’s previously gloomy mood instantly brightened.
“But seriously though, what made you suddenly change your mind and decide not to divorce?” Shen Wenyue asked curiously.
“Because my blindness got cured~”
…
The two chatted until Ji Nuannuan’s stomach growled from hunger, and only then did Shen Wenyue hang up.
After hanging up, Ji Nuannuan felt like she was starving. She ran to her door and shouted:
“Zhang Ma! I want cola chicken wings!”
From the kitchen, Zhang Ma responded quickly:
“Yes, young madam! Right away!”
Not long after, Ji Nuannuan was happily eating her beloved wings. She picked up her phone and took a selfie with the wings, captioning it:
“Zhang Ma’s love.”
Meanwhile, in the CEO’s office, Fu Jinghan was flipping through documents at lightning speed.
Just as he was thinking about Ji Nuannuan, he received her message.
Seeing the photo of Ji Nuannuan with sauce at the corner of her lips, Fu Jinghan was instantly reminded of last night in the study.
So alluring.
He stared at the photo endlessly, and finally couldn’t resist — he sent her a video call request.
Ji Nuannuan, still eating her chicken wings, panicked when she saw the incoming call.
She hadn’t even washed her face yet! If Fu Jinghan saw her in this state, what would he think?
Photos could be edited, but video — not so much!
As she hesitated, the video call still hadn’t connected, and Fu Jinghan’s face darkened.
What’s going on?
Was she eating and didn’t see the call?
Or was her phone broken?
Just as he was starting to overthink, Ji Nuannuan finally accepted the call — but only half her face was visible on screen.
Looking at her, Fu Jinghan couldn’t help but laugh:
“What’s this? Where’s the other half of your face?”
Ji Nuannuan stammered:
“This half looks better~”
“Why are you video-calling me during work hours? Is that what a CEO should be doing?” Ji Nuannuan said, acting all righteous.
Fu Jinghan replied seriously:
“Exactly because I’m the CEO. The company is mine — who should I be afraid of?”
Ji Nuannuan burst into laughter, unable to even eat her chicken wing.
Yep, this is definitely a boss’s privilege.
“Alright, go back to work. Come home early, I’ll be waiting~”
“Okay.” Fu Jinghan reluctantly ended the call.
Seeing Ye Fan frozen at the door, Fu Jinghan immediately turned serious:
“What are you standing around for? Get to work!”
Poor Ye Fan looked like he was about to cry.
Why is he so gentle when talking to Ji Nuannuan, but so harsh with me?!
Aren’t I still your loyal assistant, Fu Jinghan???
Who can understand this!!! The CEO has a split personality!!!
After finishing her meal, Ji Nuannuan lay in bed scrolling through her tablet, checking entertainment news — but saw nothing about Ji Xinxin.
Which was within her expectations.
After all, it wasn’t some huge scandal.
With the current influence of the Ji family, it wasn’t hard to keep things under wraps.
The Ji family might not be on par with the Fu family, but in the business world, they were still a formidable force.
Especially since they hadn’t completely fallen out with her yet.
Even though very few people knew about her marriage to Fu Jinghan, as her father-in-law, Fu Jinghan had helped the Ji family a lot behind the scenes.
She didn’t believe Ji Xinxin would stay quiet for long.
No rush — she’d wait for her to come crawling back.
As Ji Nuannuan was deep in thought, a phone call from Ji Gongli interrupted her.
Seeing the call from the contact saved as “Dad,” she sneered and declined.
At the Ji family villa…
Staring at his rejected call, Ji Gongli slammed his phone to the ground in anger:
“That damn girl! She’s really got guts now — even dares to hang up on me!”
Beside him, Ji Xinxin was gently patting his back comfortingly.
“Dad, don’t be mad. I’m sure sis just misunderstood something.”
“I even wanted to call her myself and explain, but she blocked both me and mom.”
She spoke with an aggrieved look on her face.
“Maybe she thinks that now that she has the Fu family behind her, she doesn’t need the Ji family anymore. If I had married Fu Jinghan back then, I wouldn’t have acted like she does now.”
Ji Gongli listened and found it reasonable.
Compared to Ji Nuannuan, Ji Xinxin had been raised by his side since childhood.
In terms of etiquette and social finesse, she wasn’t inferior to Ji Nuannuan at all.
But he still responded coldly:
“Nonsense! Fu Jinghan only wants that damn girl. You just weren’t as attractive!”
For a split second, Ji Xinxin’s face darkened.
But she quickly switched back to a regretful expression.
“Dad, I’m sure sis used some dirty tricks to seduce Fu Jinghan. If he had met me first…”
She paused, watching Ji Gongli’s reaction, and continued:
“Sigh, it’s too late now. She’s already Mrs. Fu. If she changes and stops supporting Ji Corporation, what will happen to our family?”
Mentioning the Ji Corporation touched Ji Gongli’s sore spot.
He absolutely could not go back to the days of being poor and powerless.
He looked at his shattered phone on the floor, and his eyes turned cold and ruthless.
