Chu Rong was half asleep and half unconscious, and she felt someone’s hand gently touching her head, sliding down her hair to her face, and stroking her cheek for a while before the hand slowly withdrew.
She wanted to open her eyes, but her heavy eyelids seemed to be filled with lead, and she couldn’t open them no matter how hard she tried. Her mind was full of fragments of dreams, and Chu Rong couldn’t tell who was who. The hand touched her face again, brushing it gently like a feather. Chu Rong felt comfortable being touched, and she couldn’t open her eyes at all. Although she was sleeping soundly, her body still felt the change of environment, from a not very comfortable place to a more comfortable place and then to a super comfortable place. Her stiff and tense limbs gradually relaxed, and her breathing became much more even.
After waking up from a dream that lasted who knows how long, Chu Rong felt all the bones in her body were weak.
She turned over in the soft and comfortable bed and opened her eyes lazily.
Hmm? Soft?
Chu Rong’s confused mind suddenly became clear. How could the bed be soft?
The bed in her small rental apartment is very hard!
Chu Rong sat up suddenly and looked around the huge room. The familiar furnishings reminded her of something.
Oh, she traveled through a book and became a rich person.
Until the events of these days came flooding back like a tide, Chu Rong finally remembered everything she had experienced in detail. Every day, something happened that required her to concentrate all her energy to deal with. Chu Rong slept for two days, both for illness and for rest. As soon as she rested, Chu Rong felt like her soul was about to fly away in sleep.
Didn’t she participate in a variety show?
How come she was back to the Fu family in the blink of an eye?
The furnishings in the room were the bedroom on the third floor of the Fu family villa. Chu Rong subconsciously wanted to find her cell phone, but when she touched the head of the bed, she couldn’t find it.
How did she come back? Didn’t she actually go to the variety show?
She clearly remembered going to the mountain village, walking on the mountain road, and fishing. But she couldn’t remember why she returned to the Fu family after fishing.
Chu Rong knocked her head, got off the bed, and planned to go see if Fu Nian and Fu Yu had returned.
In fact, she had a bad guess in her mind. She suspected that she was transported to some strange place, because after she came here, the plot development was very different from that in the original novel. Chu Rong thought of some “corrected plot” settings in the works she had read, and couldn’t help but wonder if she was “corrected” to the direction where the plot should develop.
Chu Rong almost fell to her knees as her weak feet touched the ground.
She stamped her feet and took two steps outside.
”Mom, you’re awake!”
Chu Rong raised her head, her eyes filled with undisguised surprise.
Xiaoyu and Nian Nian! They still called her mom. The plot probably didn’t correct itself as she thought.
Chu Rong breathed a sigh of relief, her legs went limp, and she sat on the ground holding onto the railing.
It seemed that she was dreaming and had gone crazy. In the past two days, her dreams were always about herself forcing Fu Nian and Fu Yu to death. One dream after another was a huge challenge to Chu Rong’s mentality. She was really afraid that as soon as she opened her eyes, she would return to the worst moment in the plot.
”Mom, are you hungry? Aunt Yun has prepared the meal. My brother and I came up to see if you are awake.” Fu Yu came over and threw himself into Chu Rong’s arms, “Mom, I missed you so much!”
Fu Nian looked at Chu Rong, who was slumped on the ground, and said in a worried tone, “What’s wrong with you? There’s so much sweat on your head.”
Chu Rong touched her forehead slowly, and sure enough, a thin layer of sweat appeared on her forehead without her noticing.
Only she knew how nervous she was just now.
”It’s okay, just a little hot.” Chu Rong stroked her chest, trying to calm her pounding heart.
”Hot?” Fu Nian frowned. He walked over and touched Chu Rong’s forehead. “The fever has gone down, but is it still hot?”
”Huh?” Chu Rong was a little surprised, “I have a fever?”
Fu Nian was even more surprised than her, “You don’t remember? You had a high fever yesterday morning and slept for two days and one night.”
The doctors who were invited said that if the patient had the fever for a few more days, he would become insane. Fu Nian felt scared.
Fortunately, my father came in time, otherwise the conditions in the rural clinic could not guarantee that people could recover.
It turned out to be because of a fever. Chu Rong was completely relieved. It was good that it was not because of the power of the plot.
”Maybe I slept too long.” Chu Rong smiled bitterly, “After two days of sleep, who wouldn’t feel confused?”
”Are you hungry? Aunt Yun made some porridge. Do you want to go downstairs or bring it to your room?” Fu Nian helped Chu Rong up from the floor and reminded her, “Wear shoes, otherwise your cold will get worse.”
I always feel that Niannian has become a lot gentler. Chu Rong is a little dazed by Fu Nian’s thoughtful care. Before, Niannian was obedient, but his expression and voice were always a little defensive, like a little hedgehog who has not completely let down his guard. Now Niannian is like a cat that has put away its claws and is willing to open its belly for you to play with.
Chu Rong was very pleased. It felt so good to be cared for by her cub. Her cub was indeed the most gentle one in the world.
”Go downstairs and eat.” There was a smell in the bedroom.
”Okay.” Fu Nian went into the room and helped Chu Rong take out slippers, “Put them on.”
Chu Rong cooperated very well and put on the furry slippers. “Where did you get these slippers from? It’s not appropriate to wear such thick shoes in July and August.”
”Keep warm.” Fu Nian said simply, “Wait until you recover from your cold before putting on your sandals.”
”Oh.” Chu Rong didn’t feel hot, and she did feel a little cold.
”By the way, Nian Nian, aren’t we recording a variety show?” Chu Rong asked as they walked, “If I remember correctly, we’ve only been recording for one day, right?”
Fu Nian hummed, “You’ve had a fever for two days.”
”…Maybe I caught a cold from fishing the day before.” She even went out for a walk in the evening.
The temperature difference at night is still a bit big, and the house is so leaky. Chu Rong has all the debuffs on her, so it’s hard for her not to get sick.
”So the show is over right now? The production team sent us back home?” Will the production team still pay us this time? Chu Rong felt a little pained. This is considered sick leave, right? Can the production team give us paid leave?
When they reached the first floor, Fu Nian replied, “It’s over.” This program was over, not just for this episode, but permanently.
Chu Rong thought that Fu Nian tacitly agreed that they were sent back by the program crew, “You have a fever at a really bad time.” She would ask Zhong Chunhe later. If she had to say, the program crew was also responsible for her fever. If the program crew had not been so shameless, going down to the river to catch fish and making the roof leaky, she, who had never been sick since she was a child, would not have had a fever, and it lasted for so long.
”It’s not your fault.” Fu Nian pulled Chu Rong to sit on the dining chair. Although he was young, he had already felt some of the disgusting people and things in the society.
The lesson Chu Rong learned this time was a real lesson for him. He doesn’t have to be polite and good-tempered to everyone. Just like his father said, one cannot show off his edge, but he must not be without edge.
”I just feel sorry for my salary.” Chu Rong held her face and sighed. Making money was not as easy as she imagined. Five million was not something that could be obtained just by stretching out her hand.
Fu Nian seemed to know what she was thinking, “The people in the production team are really too much.”
Sister Yun brought out a pot of corn and vegetable porridge, as well as a plate of steamed pumpkin, stir-fried lettuce, spinach stewed with pork ribs, and egg and tofu soup. All of them were relatively light but could supplement vitamins and protein, suitable for Chu Rong to eat.
Fu Nian and Fu Yu were not picky and ate these somewhat light dishes with Chu Rong.
The dishes cooked by Sister Yun were delicious, but Chu Rong’s mouth was tasteless. Everything she ate tasted like chewing wax. “Variety shows are like this. They like to make fun of people.”
”They didn’t come when you were sick.” Fu Nian pushed the egg custard to Chu Rong, “The doctor couldn’t cure you. If dad hadn’t come, you would have been seriously ill.”
Su Ying uncle said that if it burned for one more day, her head would explode.
That vivid and somewhat terrifying metaphor frightened Fu Nian and Fu Ruhui.
After waking up, Chu Rong’s reaction time was a bit long. The two sentences Fu Nian said seemed to have turned a corner in the air before entering Chu Rong’s ears.
She scooped a spoonful of egg custard, but before she put it in her mouth, she was suddenly stunned:
”Who’s coming?”
”Whose dad?”
”Is your father here?”
The night was quiet, and Fu Ruhui was socializing with someone. It would be more appropriate to say “reminiscing about the past” rather than “socializing”.
”Why are you in Shansheng?”
Faced with a table full of Western food, Fu Ruhui had no appetite at all. He never put down the car keys in his hand, as if he was ready to leave at any time.
When they got home, Su Ying pulled Fu Ruhui out before he had time to sit down. Fu Ruhui had some questions to ask, so he just found a store and planned to chat with Su Ying for ten minutes.
Shan Province is the province where Qibapo is located. It is several provinces away from the hospital where Su Ying also works. Fu Ruhui doesn’t think that Su Ying would happen to be here on a business trip, and Qibapo is in such a remote place.
He and Su Ying had been classmates for several years, so he knew him relatively well. Su Ying also had a good family background and was proud, so it was impossible for her to come to a place with such conditions for no reason.
Su Ying also held a cigarette between his slender fingers. He shrugged and said, “On a business trip. What about you? Aren’t you busy abroad? How come you’re here in the blink of an eye?”
Fu Ruhui glanced at the half-burned cigarette in Su Ying’s hand. The scarlet butt was swallowed up, leaving behind a charred mark.
Su Ying also refused to tell him the truth, and Fu Ruhui had no intention of pressing him, but Fu Ruhui would not answer Su Ying’s questions no matter how he asked them.
”When did you start smoking?”
Su Ying also blew away the ashes on his fingers and brushed off a piece of ashes from the cigarette butt nonchalantly, “Just light one and put it out immediately.”
”Smoking is not allowed in the store.” Fu Ruhui raised his chin and motioned Su Ying to look at the sign on the wall for herself.
Su Ying also squinted his eyes and smiled, then put out the cigarette.
”I have something else to do. Thank you for today.” Fu Ruhui took his coat and didn’t want to stay any longer. “I’ll treat you to dinner another day.”
Su Ying also laughed and said, “Mr. Fu is so polite? After all, we have known each other for so many years, and this time it’s just on the way.”
Fu Ruhui curled his lips, “It’s a great honor for you to take such a lucky route. I have to thank you.”
”Are you in such a hurry to see your wife? I reserved this table of food in advance, and you left within five minutes of sitting down. Aren’t you being too disrespectful to me?”
”So, I’ll treat you to a meal some other day.”
Su Ying also leaned back in her chair, watching Fu Ruhui walk by his side, “When did your relationship become so deep? Isn’t our iceberg-like Fu a top student who never has any worldly desires? I thought you would just marry any woman you want in your life.”
Fu Ruhui paused for a moment, “I won’t get married casually.”
In his opinion, marriage is a very serious matter and there is no such thing as being “casual”.
Su Ying also smiled playfully, “That’s because your wife is so charming.”
”Didn’t you see her last time?” Fu Ruhui glanced at him, “Doctor, you should drink less.”
After saying this, Fu Ruhui straightened the hem of his suit, paid the bill and left.
Su Ying also paused for a moment as he passed the wine glass to his mouth. After Fu Ruhui left, he took a big sip of the wine unconvinced, “Why should the doctor drink less?”
“It’s inhumane.”
