Chapter 8: The Fastest Way to Get Rich
After a night of hard work, Bai Nuoli had completely emptied the national treasury, private vaults, and grain stores of the two nations. Even the extravagant palaces of imperial concubines and the homes of corrupt officials weren’t spared. This feat was only possible thanks to the time difference within her space—otherwise, doing all this in a single night would have been impossible. Of course, with tools like truth pills and other tricks, she made sure not to touch the truly virtuous, though there were few of those in these countries. The result? Absolutely exhilarating.
And she even had a moment of kindness—she secretly distributed one tael of silver and a sack of rice to each family in the slums. It only cost a few hundred taels. Not too much, since giving away too much at once would cause chaos.
The effort completely exhausted Bai Nuoli. The next day, while traveling in the carriage, she slept soundly, oblivious to the noise around her. Meanwhile, the citizens who had received silver and food remained quiet, but every household gathered their family members to kneel and give thanks. This small act of charity ended up saving many families from starvation.
The return journey was unusually rushed. Bai Nuoli didn’t know the reason, but they would arrive in the capital by tomorrow night. That meant she had only one more night to act.
That night, dressed in black nightwear, Bai Nuoli appeared at the Bai family estate in the capital. She pasted an invisibility talisman on herself and had Fugui scatter sleeping powder throughout the residence. Now, it was time for her to work.
She scanned the estate with her psychic power but didn’t immediately collect everything. Instead, she went to the storeroom to inspect its contents. Most of the items were decorative pieces, property deeds, land deeds, and some simple jewelry. There were also some high-quality items—probably imperial rewards. However, there was very little gold and silver. No matter, I’ll take it all anyway. As for the paintings and calligraphy scrolls? I wouldn’t even use them as firewood!
Next, she made her way to her scumbag father’s study. The moment she stepped in, she was greeted with a sight—her father and Concubine Sun were busy in the study. Disgusting.
Ignoring them, she activated the hidden door inside the study. And there it was—her suspicions were correct! How could a prime minister not have a massive stash of wealth? The real treasures had been hidden here all along—gold bricks, gold ingots, pearl ornaments, red coral, luminous pearls… Filthy rich, huh? She took everything without hesitation.
Next, she targeted the supposedly kind-hearted Madam Bai and her grandmother. Her grandmother’s stash was unimpressive, but Madam Bai? Oh, she was rich. After all, she was the most pampered daughter of the household, and her son was ungrateful and self-serving. With her daughter’s marriage not being particularly advantageous, it was obvious that most of the family’s wealth was in her hands. But now? It’s all mine! With a single thought, she emptied everything.
After that, Bai Nuoli and Fugui split up. Since they were in the capital, Fugui could act freely. She sent him to loot the imperial palace while she focused on the corrupt officials, the crown prince, and her mother’s maiden family. Planning to confiscate my house? I’ll beat you to it!
As Bai Nuoli had predicted, the Bai family’s downfall was imminent—likely tied to the urgent summons for her return. Some things were better left to unfold naturally. She had no intention of stopping the confiscation; she only needed to change her surname and return to her grandfather’s Su family. Only with the Su family could she properly care for her grandfather.
By the time she was finished, she was completely drained. The next day was another sleep-filled day for Bai Nuoli.
Meanwhile, the capital was in complete chaos. Countless officials and members of the imperial palace woke up to find their homes utterly emptied—not even a grain of rice or a single chicken remained!
Even the emperor himself had no breakfast prepared—there wasn’t even an egg left in the palace! He had to send people out to purchase food just to have a meal, leaving him furious beyond words.
But even if Bai Nuoli heard about it, she would simply smirk and say, You’re welcome. This is the least I could do.
