Chapter 42 – Such Huge Potatoes

Shu Ruohua completely let herself go.

She didn’t want to stay in the room for even a second longer, fearing Qian Ning would once again try to force her to study under the guise of doing it for her own good.

She rushed straight to the backyard.

Looking at the vegetables growing there made her feel far more relaxed and happy.

She walked over to the potato patch. At this stage, the potato flowers had all fallen off, which meant it was time for them to bear fruit.

Because the potatoes had grown so quickly, Shu Ruohua had lost track of their growth cycle. She wasn’t even sure how big they were now.

She furrowed her brows and thought for a while, finally deciding to dig up one potato to check.

She found a small iron trowel and dug up one of the outermost plants.

To her delight, not only had the potatoes already formed, but the first three she dug up looked to weigh over a pound each.

Since there were still more in the soil, she kept digging. She uncovered five more potatoes that also seemed to weigh more than a pound, and three that were about half a pound each.

This made Shu Ruohua even happier.

She truly hadn’t expected that, after just half a month since planting, the potatoes had grown so large and plentiful.

She fetched a basket, placed all the potatoes inside, and decided to take them to show Qian Ning.

Qian Ning was currently cooking in the small kitchen.

When she saw the potatoes Shu Ruohua brought over, her eyes widened.

“Such huge potatoes!”

Shu Ruohua beamed, “Right? These are the ones we planted ourselves.”

Qian Ning looked utterly shocked. “These… these are from our backyard?!”

She could hardly believe that potatoes could grow this fast and this big in such a short time.

Shu Ruohua nodded proudly. “We’re eating them for lunch!”

As she spoke, she set the potatoes down and grabbed a basin, peeling two of the large ones.

With potatoes this big, it would be more than enough for the two of them.

For lunch, Qian Ning made stir-fried shredded potatoes.

Because they were freshly harvested, the dish turned out particularly delicious.

In fact, Shu Ruohua even felt that these potatoes tasted better than the fresh ones she used to eat in the modern world.

After lunch, Shu Ruohua originally planned to dig up the rest of the potatoes.

But she noticed that the plants’ stems and leaves were still green, meaning they could keep growing for a while longer. Digging them up now would be a waste.

So, she decided instead to take a beauty nap that afternoon.

She would wait a bit longer to harvest them. By then, there would probably be even more—and maybe she could even sell some for money.

Just the thought made her happy.

After a restful nap, Shu Ruohua woke up in the early evening.

She walked over to her dressing table, picked up the small bronze mirror, and examined herself from head to toe.

“Hmm, I’ve definitely slimmed down a lot.”

It had been more than half a month since she started losing weight.

She looked at herself in the mirror every day and noticed she was getting thinner each time.

Now, even the rolls on her belly had clearly shrunk several inches.

At most, she probably only weighed about 140 pounds now.

If she could keep this up for another half month and finish detoxing her body, her weight would likely return to normal.

With this newfound motivation, she looked outside at the fading daylight and went out for another run.

After her run, she once again took a hot bath.

As the sky gradually darkened, the sunset bathed the western horizon in red.

Shu Ruohua stood in the courtyard, gazing up at the most beautiful view of the day.

Back in the modern world, she had no family. Whenever she saw a sunset like this, it gave her an inexplicable sense of warmth and comfort, as if she really had a family.

Suddenly, a man’s voice came from behind her. “What are you looking at?”

His voice was magnetic and pleasant to the ear—calming and reassuring.

Shu Ruohua instinctively turned around and met the dark eyes of the man standing behind her.
